Oh its quite interesting, I am not that good at maths, which is why I studied chemistry instead of physics, but its very interesting I find, and its very interesting to read how it was developed and the concepts, because maths is so fundamental to things in the modern world, but we take it for granted, like this computer I am on. Its not like reading a mathematics textbook or anything, and its actually quite helpful to increase your ease with the subject to see where and how it has been developed. I would love to be really good at difficult maths, and people who are I hold in high regard! Some of the philosophy behind what goes on in maths, logic, numbering systems, definitions, and causality are of course also absolutely fundamental to the scientific method, so its always important to keep an eye on it all. :-6

I haven't kept up with the conversation so I don't know if anyone has read THe Seven Daughters of Eve by Bryan Sykes. It is the story of the 'discovery' of mitochondrial DNA testing. The scientific explanations get a little dry but there is enough anecdotal material to keep it interesting.

I borrowed it from the library because I am trying to interest my brother in DNA testing for genealogy and although surname tests are on the 'Y' chromosome, there is a major world wide project going on sponsored by National Geographic to try to follow all groups back to the beginning..our common mother so to speak.

Keeps me reading anyway, although it's not fast. Definitely not mental bubble gum.

Just read "Gentlemam Jim" a biography of Jim Almonds by his daugher-one of the founding members of the SAS. Turns out my father was in Tobruk at the same time as him though I doubt they ever met. Half way through the hostage by W E B Griffin. After that I've got a kathy Riechs book lined up and then Conn Iggilden The Gates of Rome.

I tend to categorise books in to either mindless relaxation and almost instanly forgettable or a good read. Every now and then there is a worthy tome I feel I should read through but usually can't be bothered to read all the way through.

Right now I'm reading posts on here as I can't read two things at once.

I'm reading a letter from my sons school about a trip in two weeks. More money to pay out, wonderful!

I'm reading "Wild Animus" by Rich Shapero. It's fantastic. I'm a big fan of Alaskan adventure diaries, and also psychedelic culture, and this melded these two worlds artfully. Granted, Shapero isn't the best writer, but that only adds to the rough, emotional storytelling - he paints a picture of a life I'll never know, and it's gripping to dip into his world.

I just started "Mother" by Linda Ann Rentschler. It's about a woman whose mother has died and how coming across a younger woman who's also lost her mom recently and tragically, brings her out of her black hole.

I was hooked from the first page. It's only been ten months since I lost Mom and coming home to a book like this is like crying on the shoulder of a friend who's been there already. I still have days where I think no one knows this pain but me.

Innocent In Death......by J. D Robb (Nora Roberts)

Re-reading Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein for only the second time; I read it first at age 14. I've always loved Heinlein but when I read this novel the first time I was appalled by the seemingly harsh society in which the story is set. What a difference 34 years make!

I decided not to start - Last chance Salon just yet but i have just bought Further under the Duvet - by Marian Keyes too,

but i have decided to save them both for when i go on holiday. :-6

and i have just started - queen of the big time by - Adriana Trigiani

Only last year did i start getting into reading books and now i just can't stop....

I just finished The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. What a hoot. A real send-up of mystery novels in general, and of a lot of other genres along the way. This author has written several others, and I'll be reading those soon. His character is THursday Next!!

a fantastic read i really enjoyed it, and i am in tears :-1

but it came with a really moving ending :-4

I am reading "I'm OK Your OK" by Theodore A. White M.D. It's about Transactional Analysis. I read it for the first time in the late 60's so this is a re-read. It's a great read for understanding and improving interpersonal relationships.
