I admit I hate this getting older thing. My attitude is not a help at all, maybe it's best to do what you can/what you enjoy and just not think about it, what's the point?

I think it's horrid and yet I thought I would just accept it quietly when it came along. Huh! I'm changing into the grumpy old woman I swore I would never be...I moan, I groan, I make that silly "uhh" noise every time I get up from a sitting position, I'm always saying that things were far better years ago and I'm less confused about the past than I am the present. And, as you can see, I've got a whole thread dedicated to my physical ailments.

We are pretty similar except I don't think the old days were better in any way, when I was a kid there was segregation & girls couldn't attend all schools & too many careers were hard for us to enter. So in that way I think it is better now. The only thing which was better was the prices of stuff. It was possible to rent cheaply, eat cheaply, fly to London cheaply. Now, those things are prohibitive for too many people including myself. Come to think of it, that was real important, but the social advances today are better.

eta--Oh! The technology today! It almost makes it worth it.

Not feeling sorry for myself, just annoyed I can't get comfortable no matter where I put myself!

Left leg aches like hell all the time, gives out sometimes when walking. Doctor told me years ago that I'd need a hip replacement lol apparently not according to a physio I saw after a car accident who by massage re-aligned my left hip and leg.

Time to book an appointment and take out a small mortgage I guess.

It might be a small mortgage but your health is beyond money - get thee down there!

My wife found out yesterday that she has another arterial blood clot in her sole remaining leg. The doctors say she will lose that leg within two to three years. She was devastated and in tears all day. She had to go in for a cath procedure to try to dissolve the clot, but it didn't work. Worst of all, we JUST got done with a medical bankruptcy and we can't do another one for seven years so we're totally screwed with the bills. Then they prescribed a seriously expensive medicine, just as I received the discount card for her previous expensive medicine in the mail. So back to the drawing board on that and it will take another three weeks to get the new one set up while I pay the heinous co-pay.

All that on the first day of school....life's treating me like I ran over it's dog.

(((Saint_))) I am so very sorry to hear the pain your wife, and you, are going through. Can they stent a clot such as this? I apologize if that's a stupid question.

Life really sucks for some people, doesn't it? I have so much to say about myself lately. Before I get over one thing, something else happens. I'd like to share, but I admit I'm tongue-tied.

You're a good man & I'm sure your wife is equal to you. I offer my sympathies & a shoulder, if you ever need it.

Betty, can't your GP refer you to physio so you don't have to pay?

Thanks for the sympathy in the feeling sorry for oneself thread, Anne! As to a stent, I'm not sure why they can't do one in a leg artery, but they do not ever mention it even as a possibility. last time they told us that they couldn't even do a graft since arteries have so much pressure in them. Which I don't understand since they do heart bypasses, but maybe, again, it has to do with the size of the artery. or maybe they are just afraid of dislodging the blood clot and giving her a stroke or heart attack.

Well, she called me at work today and says she is feeling bad and I'm worried that the artery has broken open and she has internal bbleeding since she was comlaining about her abdomen last night and that her leg was hurting. So I'll rush home right after school today to see what the doctor told her. In the meantime...the show must go on. The bills have to be pasi and young children need to learn math so that they can have their own loves some day. (oops...I meant to type 'Lives." Freudian slip...)

Tried that route years ago, an eight month waiting list and then the physios at the hospital didn't know what to do

The lady I saw at a private clinic put me right in one session. Still not phoned for an appointment, need to check with bro which day he has off so I will have someone to have the toddler for me.

Sorry about your news Saint, sending prayers.

I must say I am feeling sorry for myself at the moment.. I am 'pissed' and pissed off.. Maybe i should be wise, and just listen to the voices in my head, and go to bed... night all!

Update: Situation deteriorating. She is in terrible pain, they are doing a CAT scan right now at the ER. Her abdomen is swollen and she has burning pain in the leg they operated on on Monday. I'm going to stay with her tonight and miss work tomorrow. Doctors are baffled.

I did, however, find my cellphone which got lost at school yesterday. A student turned it in to me this morning. (She called about five minutes after that, thank providence.)

Ah, well, in that case, you definitely need to see the private physio. I paid to see one 3-4 years ago when I had an undiagnosed pain in my hip. She was very good.

I'm really concerned. Was it ever said her condition is circulatory in nature? I can't understand why she is suffering so, what the cause is. You both will be in my thoughts, believe me. If only that meant anything. You must feel so helpless, Jonathan. Imagine how much worse it would be if she didn't have you to be with her.

Well, here's the latest: My wife has factor 5 clotting disorder (bad DNA) she has already lost one leg to arterial blot cots and now the other leg is in danger. The surgery recently was to drip a dissolving agent on the forming clot and see if the could dissolve it. That's a very dangerous procedure, since if the clot dislodges suddenly, it can travel to the brain or heart and instantly kill the patient. If the clot is not dissolved, it eventually calcifies and turns, literally, into a rock and cannot be removed in any way.

Well, after that surgery, she was supposed to take it easy for three days. To her, "easy" obviously doesn't have the same meaning it does to me. She broke open her surgery and, since she was on massive blood thinners, she got internal bleeding. After a long stint in the ER Thursday night, she is back home and seeming to be doing a bit better.

To board members: if you ever have surgery and the doctors tell you to take it easy, please don't be stubborn and insist on doing dishes and laundry.

She's so pretty!

I have Factor 11 clotting deficiency. Genetic. Also called Hemophilia C. I am on 3 blood thinners: baby Aspirin daily + Plavix + Pletal. I have so many stents in my legs...................my gastroenterologist had me off the thinners before a colonoscopy. He said he was going to speak to my surgeon but never did. Because I was off the medication I was in enormous pain in left leg, which was always the better of the two. My surgeon brought me in on an emergency basis. It was the worst procedure yet, I woke up twice during it. Screaming in pain, of course.

Last week I thought I'd do something good for myself, went on my stationery bike. Banged my right pinky. The top came off! and it took 5 hours for the blood to clot. Had to go to my local zoo, oops, Emergency Room. Was there a few more hours. Finger clotted finally, no stiches. Gushing blood, too, not seeping or leaking.

I don't even want to say what's going to happen to me this Monday, but it does require surgical methods for a procedure that would go very easily for most other people.

I must say it's hard to keep my fabulous sense of humor through all this crap!

Your wife really is lovely, Jonathan. I'm glad to hear she is doing better. I'm glad she has YOU.

Oh, that is so terrible for you, Anne! Believe me, I understand exactly what you are going through. I'll say a prayer for you vice versa, yes? I can't think of anything worse than the suffering of people with blood clots other than possibly ALS. It's a really terrible disease.

And yes, I admire your sense of humor much, much more now than I did!

oh dear what a mess.

Stubborn me, pushing on with a cough for too long and then ended up at the local hospital seeing the out of hours Doctor yesterday afternoon thinking he'd just give me an inhaler.

Whoops, two lots of anti biotics later and steroid tablets to be taken at a rate of six a day and an inhaler, I was lucky to be released. Seems I have the start of pneumonia :(

Cue lots of people having to rush over to help me out with the children and me having to rest, not good at the rest bit.

Take good note of the instruction to rest and DO NOT try to be up and at-em as soon as you start to feel better - from bitter experience it will extend your illness and make you feel like hell.

I'm trying :wah: only been off the sofa to go see the Doctor again to make sure things are improving, which they are. I'd be in bed but need to be upright at the moment, the sofa is the most comfortable place to be.
