The fact is that the American electorate care about appearances and perceptions more than substance.



When Hillary ran last time, she took the time to be 'put together'. That she is not concerned with how she looks these days, could be taken as an indicator she is not planning to run.

If I remember correctly, there was a wardrobe budget for her which really wasn't much in the grand scheme of things compared to the amounts spent for this latest election but some of the items were rather high priced and apparently news worthy. But yeah, too good looking and you get called out for being superficial and stupid (which was accurate in this case) or tired looking and you're too old for the rigors of office. Politics are a popularity/beauty contest lately.

You've got my point exactly and i seem to recall on this very forum the posts stating how she was completely unsuitable as running mate due to being a vacuous bimbo without the experience required for the job. Now we have Hilary who does have the experience but because she's committed the cardinal sin of choosing not to look like mutton dressed up as lamb every day of her life, her career is over and she should call it a day.

It is a sad commentary on our society to read how the press covers a speech or visit from Michelle Obama. They are focussed on what she is wearing, how her hair looks, and seemingly every superficial detail. Sometimes, they even forget to mention what she said or did on the occasion. It borders on the absurd. I'm trying to recall the last time they even mentioned what a male was wearing or wonder who the designer was.

Women are the pretty ones of our species. They have decorated themselves throughout time. That's why we notice their decorations and comment on them. The only choices men have is which side of the head to part your hair and what color of tie to wear with the suit. That doesn't mean they both don't have a message that needs to be heard.

Men have had their "pretty" eras.

I do find it strange as in Britain we do have many female politicians and we never get to hear what they wear. I think i can honestly say that i've never heard any tv station comment on what they were wearing or their hair, just what they did and said including Michelle Obama during her visits here.

Of course there's every chance Barbara Walter's may mention Hilary's hair along with asking her about her virus but when she does, will it mean Hilary should be put out to pasture? Far from it. It's not about weather she's asked or not but how she's asked. Barbara Walter's i'm sure won't be sitting there saying " your skin is dull, you look tired, you're finished, you need to give up politics. you're too old" and then repeat herself to hammer home the insults. That's the difference and it's nothing to do with with society being fickle at all as we all comment on others appearances at some times in our lives. It's how we comment on others appearances that is an indication of the individual observer and not society as a whole.

Hillary has been admitted to the Hospital (2-3 days now)

Not much has been released - blood clot from a fall she took - she fell last month when she got dizzy. Naturally a number of tests are being performed.

Any one else hear any update on Hillary's condition? This is the 1st I heard any thing.

Apparently the clot is behind her left ear and is the result of the concussion from the fall when she fainted. She's currently on blood thinning medication. She's in the VIP wing of the same hospital that her husband was for his bypass some years back. Chelsea look rather concerned when she left the hospital.

Senator John Kerry, D-Mass. will be the Secretary of State sooner rather than later.

I do believe that Hillary and Christy will run for president. I've always like Hillary. She works hard and is smart and savy about politics and making good decisions. I'd also like to see Bill back in the White House.

Christie is ready for the fight. He also works hard and makes good decisions.

I think that both have a good chance of winning the next election.

Betty's post was in response to the baiting that is going on here and to the personal attacks which have been present - more a referee asking the boxers to "keep it clean" than anything else. I agree... Ironically, when Hilary first collapsed a couple of weeks ago due to a virus and not the fact that she was past It due to dull skin etc, I was going to post the article but thought twice because I may be accused of baiting. Patsy Just a thought, If Hilary has a history of blood clots, why did It not stop her running before or becoming Secretary of State, a pretty demanding job.

Patsy Not necessarily Patsy. I've also got a history of blood clots. The most severe was a pulmonary embolism but I take medication and when I've had clots that posed a risk, they were simply disolved by a course of Intravenus Heparin.
