I agree with everything you are saying.
The fact is that the American electorate care about appearances and perceptions more than substance.
When Hillary ran last time, she took the time to be 'put together'. That she is not concerned with how she looks these days, could be taken as an indicator she is not planning to run.
I personally like that she could care less. But it will(if she runs) cost her votes.
Doesn't have to be fair for it to be true.
Same thing with Christie. Fair? Nope. Gonna happen? You betcha... perhaps couched in concerns about his health.. but it will happen... and cost him votes.

If I remember correctly, there was a wardrobe budget for her which really wasn't much in the grand scheme of things compared to the amounts spent for this latest election but some of the items were rather high priced and apparently news worthy. But yeah, too good looking and you get called out for being superficial and stupid (which was accurate in this case) or tired looking and you're too old for the rigors of office. Politics are a popularity/beauty contest lately.

You've got my point exactly and i seem to recall on this very forum the posts stating how she was completely unsuitable as running mate due to being a vacuous bimbo without the experience required for the job. Now we have Hilary who does have the experience but because she's committed the cardinal sin of choosing not to look like mutton dressed up as lamb every day of her life, her career is over and she should call it a day.

It is a sad commentary on our society to read how the press covers a speech or visit from Michelle Obama. They are focussed on what she is wearing, how her hair looks, and seemingly every superficial detail. Sometimes, they even forget to mention what she said or did on the occasion. It borders on the absurd. I'm trying to recall the last time they even mentioned what a male was wearing or wonder who the designer was.

Women are the pretty ones of our species. They have decorated themselves throughout time. That's why we notice their decorations and comment on them. The only choices men have is which side of the head to part your hair and what color of tie to wear with the suit. That doesn't mean they both don't have a message that needs to be heard.

Of course there's every chance Barbara Walter's may mention Hilary's hair along with asking her about her virus but when she does, will it mean Hilary should be put out to pasture? Far from it. It's not about weather she's asked or not but how she's asked. Barbara Walter's i'm sure won't be sitting there saying " your skin is dull, you look tired, you're finished, you need to give up politics. you're too old" and then repeat herself to hammer home the insults. That's the difference and it's nothing to do with with society being fickle at all as we all comment on others appearances at some times in our lives. It's how we comment on others appearances that is an indication of the individual observer and not society as a whole.

KIPLING
1 When the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his pride,
2 He shouts to scare the monster, who will often turn aside.
3 But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.
4 For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.
5 When Nag the basking cobra hears the careless foot of man,
6 He will sometimes wriggle sideways and avoid it if he can.
7 But his mate makes no such motion where she camps beside the trail.
8 For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.
9 When the early Jesuit fathers preached to Hurons and Choctaws,
10 They prayed to be delivered from the vengeance of the squaws.
11 'Twas the women, not the warriors, turned those stark enthusiasts pale.
12 For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.
13 Man's timid heart is bursting with the things he must not say,
14 For the Woman that God gave him isn't his to give away;
15 But when hunter meets with husbands, each confirms the other's tale --
16 The female of the species is more deadly than the male.
17 Man, a bear in most relations -- worm and savage otherwise, --
18 Man propounds negotiations, Man accepts the compromise.
19 Very rarely will he squarely push the logic of a fact
20 To its ultimate conclusion in unmitigated act.
21 Fear, or foolishness, impels him, ere he lay the wicked low,
22 To concede some form of trial even to his fiercest foe.
23 Mirth obscene diverts his anger --- Doubt and Pity oft perplex
24 Him in dealing with an issue -- to the scandal of The Sex!
25 But the Woman that God gave him, every fibre of her frame
26 Proves her launched for one sole issue, armed and engined for the same,
27 And to serve that single issue, lest the generations fail,
28 The female of the species must be deadlier than the male.
29 She who faces Death by torture for each life beneath her breast
30 May not deal in doubt or pity -- must not swerve for fact or jest.
31 These be purely male diversions -- not in these her honour dwells.
32 She the Other Law we live by, is that Law and nothing else.
33 She can bring no more to living than the powers that make her great
34 As the Mother of the Infant and the Mistress of the Mate.
35 And when Babe and Man are lacking and she strides unchained to claim
36 Her right as femme (and baron), her equipment is the same.
37 She is wedded to convictions -- in default of grosser ties;
38 Her contentions are her children, Heaven help him who denies! --
39 He will meet no suave discussion, but the instant, white-hot, wild,
40 Wakened female of the species warring as for spouse and child.
41 Unprovoked and awful charges -- even so the she-bear fights,
42 Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons -- even so the cobra bites,
43 Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw
44 And the victim writhes in anguish -- like the Jesuit with the squaw!
45 So it cames that Man, the coward, when he gathers to confer
46 With his fellow-braves in council, dare not leave a place for her
47 Where, at war with Life and Conscience, he uplifts his erring hands
48 To some God of Abstract Justice -- which no woman understands.
49 And Man knows it! Knows, moreover, that the Woman that God gave him
50 Must command but may not govern -- shall enthral but not enslave him.
51 And She knows, because She warns him, and Her instincts never fail,
52 That the Female of Her Species is more deadly than the Male.

Apparently the clot is behind her left ear and is the result of the concussion from the fall when she fainted. She's currently on blood thinning medication. She's in the VIP wing of the same hospital that her husband was for his bypass some years back. Chelsea look rather concerned when she left the hospital.
Don't think be back in office again.

Betty's post was in response to the baiting that is going on here and to the personal attacks which have been present - more a referee asking the boxers to "keep it clean" than anything else. No-one wants to stop discussion or the expression of an opinion but both sides need to respect the right of the other to hold their opinion.
As a general principle people don't need to beat another poster over the head with a blunt club until they submit, it's a discussion not a competition. Up to now this thread has not approached that stage but it was starting to look as though it might, hence Betty's comment.
I just read this thread from the beginning to the point where moderation stepped in and I STILL don't see where anyone was baited. Maybe I've got a higher threshold than some but a few wisecracks don't constitute either baiting or bullying.

I agree... Ironically, when Hilary first collapsed a couple of weeks ago due to a virus and not the fact that she was past It due to dull skin etc, I was going to post the article but thought twice because I may be accused of baiting. Patsy Not necessarily Patsy. I've also got a history of blood clots. The most severe was a pulmonary embolism but I take medication and when I've had clots that posed a risk, they were simply disolved by a course of Intravenus Heparin.
