He was quite the impressive individual. He nearly single-handedly dragged Russia from the 18th century feudalism into the 20th century industrialism. Had he not died when he did, the rest of the 20th century would have looked much different.
It was my opinion that he should have been the Time Person of the Century. While Einstein, Hitler, Roosevelt, and Gandhi all had their strong points, it was Uncle Joe who truly shaped the century.
That is what drives Putin's popularity in Russia. There are still many who long for the days of Uncle Joe.
And, if that doesn't scare the bejesus out of you, you don't really understand Human Nature.
Rather worrying, isn't it? That's one of the reasons why I have posted several "warnings" about Russia on other threads, it's definitely flexing it's muscles(again), and Europe is not really up to the job of curbing/influencing Russia's activities, except financially, and it must be said they have similar holds on Europe(imagine if VladdyPu turned off the EU gas-tap...). How short-sighted the EU has been, investing cash and trust into a "flakey" nation such as Russia, WITHOUT the military clout to back up demands if necessary.

What you have failed, perhaps, to grasp is that some of us would much prefer to see the Dictatorship of the Proletariat universally established in place of the current antisocial Capitalist Plutarchy, and that the Soviet approach is high on our list of attainable models.

What you fail to realize, it seems, is that no matter the espoused philosophy of the leaders, the natural order of human society is to gravitate towards a plutocracy.
All of the other stated goals of any society are merely fantasies spun by clever people to reel in the masses.
No social order will ever help anyone to reach Nirvana/heaven/paradise. You're on your own. Deal with it.

And we have a new contender for delusion of the year...if you think it would be;
1. Humane
2. Fair
I won't say workable, because any old rubbish CAN work SOMEWHAT if you force things, regardless of the cost, damage and misery. I must confess to a certain disappointment in your ideals and politics, and your attitude to people.

I would like to defend Spot's idealism.
Theoretically socialism......true socialism is the only way.
But then again on paper, I repeat theoretically, on paper, most everything works and can be explained away, on paper.
All that is worth nothing when the intricacies of mankind's frailties are taken into account.
And I say that as a life long socialist.

TRUE socialism, maybe. If by that you mean everyone being genuinely equal, and all things being communally owned, and money a thing of the past, to cite a few examples. We probably need a few thousand years more learning first, in several areas.
Number one to learn is humanity/compassion.
Number two to learn is power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. But there is an answer for no.2....online proletariat voting/swipe-card voting on ALL political decisions. This is "Nirvana" as it stands, but in mankind's future, who knows....
Number three....one-world government, with no national boundaries.

Except that Socialism isn't the same thing as Communism.

Socialism strives to have those who are better off help those who aren't so fortunate. With Communism no-one is better or worse off in the first place.
