Hey, don't knock the soup, Helen! At least it has some body to it, rather than being like a bowl of cat's wee :yh_rotfl

one thing ive noticed is that those people who have come back here from theater are all fully awake, sounds silly i know but thats the bit that scares me, being bundled up in blankets with wires etc attached while you are struggling to come round.

i know it was only 2yrs since my thyroid op but obviously things have advanced since then !!

Roast pork sounds awesome!

Maybe they have changed types of Anesthetics , don't let it scare you.

Helen: Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you. I hope you can have your surgery soon. When I had my ankle surgery two years ago, they knocked me out completely and said I kept muttering that I need to go now and walk my dogs :wah: God only know what else I said while I was under :lips: Good luck to you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery :-4

Gill: What's new with you?

Odie: Tis pouring rain here today. Are you getting rain too?

Helen: How are you feeling and when will you be able to have your surgery?

Odie: I'm sorry to hear about your fish and I hope they get better :(

Gill: Cat got your tongue? :wah: We can't mutter without you Mrs! :p

I'm doing well just sick and tired of the rain every day :-5 I have so much to do outside but can't with this nasty weather. Still waiting for Spring to arrive here as it's been on in the high 40's :(

Hope you all have a good day and I'll talk to you soon! :-4

Morning Everyone!

thanks Jazzy, I'm praying my two clown fish survive with the meds!

How are you today?

Helen, you must feel rough today after your surgery, so just take it easy!

Hey Gill, is it still warm and sunny?

Hope your fish survive, but be prepared for them not to as it sounds as if they have quite a bad infection. :(

No to the sunny - it rained on and off yesterday, and likewise today. In Scotland it has snowed, and there is to be more, possibly another 30 cm, over 1 foot ! They have had a long hard winter this year, and no mistake.

We're headed off to our static in Norfolk over Easter (Leaving Thursday, returning next Tuesday). Won't be able to get to a PC, as I expect the library will be closed - bank holiday Friday and bank holiday Monday. Won't have a TV either, so I guess I'll catch up on some reading :yh_rotfl

Hope you aren't in too much pain, Helen, and I do hope they don't send you home all by yourself, too soon. I think these bloody doctors have no imagination ! :-5 :-5 Certainly no common sense ! :-5 :-5

They do have a really bad infection, and I'm sure they must be getting weak from swimming to the top for oxygen.:(

omg......I had no idea Scotland got that much snow! Mike's grandfather, bless his soul lived there and they have no facilities to remove it.

Oh that's so nice you two are getting away over Easter, what is your static in Norfolk?

Bloody hell Helen, stupid doctors..thank god for nurses who know what to do.

I hope you can get help once your home, we have it here and nurses will come in a few times a day to check on you.

Ask your daughter to get some easy meals in for you and change the bed, your going to need help being on crutches as well.

Not much to say today, yet ! Except good morning all ! :yh_rotfl Miserable day today and looks like rain. Heavy blizzards in Northern Ireland and Scotland, well it is fast approaching Easter and the bank holidays, so what should we really expect in the UK ? I suppose it doesn't help that Easter is early this year.

I shall be off to our static caravan in Norfolk on Thursday and be back some time on the following Tuesday 6 th April. First time since before Christmas, so we're hoping all is OK with it. It will be a nice break though. There's no TV and no Internet.......

gawd, will I survive ? :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl I will take my laptop then I can play some games, download any photos, and watch DVDs, so we'll be OK ! I wonder if it would be worth investing in one of those 'Dongle' thingies? Then maybe I would have the internet in the caravan, but thinking about it, the reception on that site is appalling for TV so maybe it won't be so hot for internet connection through a 'dongle' either. :-3 Oh well, never mind. We'll just have to wait till we get connected through BT (there is a telegraph pole right beside our caravan!!!), but at the moment we just cannot afford two separate landlines, so that will have to wait.

I will make enquiries, though, to see if Virgin have laid their cables in that area, because quite honestly, I think I would prefer to have a Virgin connection to include the phone, tv and internet. Their TV choice is much better than BT, and their internet package is also better than BT, and faster! ;)

Its going to be hard, it was your first time, don't let it get you down!

If you have to stay there for awhile, its just as well, as you need to build up your strength before you go home.

Oh wonderful, that will make Wally happy!

That's really wonderful, about the no pain ! Wow! Are you on meds then, for the pain?

Hey Helen, don't over do things when you get home. Just take great care of that leg Mrs. You need it to heal properly. Will there be people popping in to help you ?

So pleased that you will have Wally back with you, I know you would be lost without the little fella :D Have you got a fenced garden where you live, Helen, so he can go out in the garden if he needs a leak or something ? :wah:

I just can't believe that you have no pain at all Mrs. That's brilliant ! Kaz seemed to have pain for quite a while, from what I understand, and she didn't need an operation!

Take care :-6 ;) :D

Hey, I hope that parcel arrives from Oscar, before you go home tomorrow, else the nurses may raid it !:eek::eek: You'd better check that stuff will be posted on to you, after you've gone back home. Hello everyone! :-6

Helen: Glad to hear you are up and about but please don't over do it! Also happy to hear that arrangements have been made for Wally. Are they really kicking you out of the hospital so soon? :( I hope you have someone home that can help you. I send you a (((HUG)))) :-4

Gill: Weather here is just dreadful! Pouring rain and cold for the past 3 days. :-5 They did say that this weekend will be sunny and warm with the high going to 70 degrees. Crazy weather here where one day it's in the 30's and the next day it's in the 70's. No wonder so many people have colds!

Odie: Hope you're doing well this morning. How's the weather there in Canada today?

Talk to you all soon!

Thanks, Odie, it will be a working weekend some of the time, because nowt's been done there since before Christmas! But we will make time to visit the beach and walk in the woods with the dog etc. One thing, it will be lovely and quiet !!!!! :D

I just hope the buggers have installed our lovely balcony - it should have been done a year ago !!! Also a passing car pinched up a stone which broke a window in the door. Fortunately it was only the outside part of the double glazing, so we were still weather proof. They had better have fixed that as well grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I expect Chris will get the flagstone base sorted ready to put our new metal garden shed up. We'll need some anchor chains for it as well. I expect one or two fellas who own caravans on the site will help with the shed - it needs at least two people to fix it up. They're a nice bunch of people and everybody helps everybody else, as and when needed. :-6 :D

Is this the caravan you were going to buy last year Gill?

The one you were supposed to move to?

I hope they have your balcony up and the door fixed.

It sounds nice up there and lots of wonderful people to help!

Yes we bought it, and yes we are supposed to be moving to it, but that has had to be put on the back burner for the time being. It's a bit of a sore point, seeing as it was third parties that have caused all this hassle. They will get their karma.

Hi everybody! Jazzy, Oscar, Odie, Helen, Kathy, thanks for the good wishes, and it was a very pleasant and laid back few days ! I think Chris got a bit of a bug on Tuesday and didn't feel too good - probably this 24 hour thing that seems to be going the rounds, so we decided not to travel (couldn't guarantee opportune loos:lips: ). Fortunately he felt a lot better in the evening (I made him have a nana nap in the afternoon), and Wednesday morning he was back to normal. We travelled back and arrived just after 6 pm. Slowish journey as there were lots of lorries and tractors and safe over-taking places were infrequent. I drove most of the way, which was a nice change for me as I haven't driven our car for some time now, and it took at least 10 yards to get the hang of it again :wah:

Pleased to say that our balcony had been installed at last :guitarist , but the broken window had not been dealt with (double glazing) :-5. Chris managed to fit a very good TV aerial on it's pole, securely to the caravan (somebody had tossed it onto the scrap pile !). We didn't get the flagstones down, too many rain showers and fairly high winds made it quite cool outside, but we did manage to load my electric buggy into the boot (it is one that will take to pieces easily for transporting), and bring it back here. Now I shall be able to go with Chris for walks when he takes the dog, and I shall be able to go shopping in the supermarket with him ! :D

Our new (second hand :)) balcony, which apparently went in 'like a dream' according to Barney who's the resident 'do all sorts, help everybody, man-of-all-trades' on the site!

Hi Odie and Helen! Flamin typical innit? Wall to wall sunshine now we're back in grottland...........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I wanna go back to the 'Butty' (Well that's the name we've given it - we've called all our residences 'The Butty' :wah:)

On inland waterways, canals etc. when they had working narrow boats, and the wider barges and there are still a few left that are still working, they usually travelled in pairs. The front boat would be the motor boat and it would tow the second boat, called the 'butty' which had a rear cabin for living on board - quite often besides dad and mum there would be 3 or 4 children and probably a dog! Dad would operate the motor boat, carrying 25 tons of coal or gravel or similar, and mum would steer the 'butty' boat that had no engine. The 'butty' would also have 35 tons of coal etc That's 70 tons being transported on one engine, with one driver - that is probably the equivalent of 6 or 7 lorry loads by road, with 6 or 7 drivers and of course the attendant pollution into the atmosphere! Would seem a sensible thing to re-establish the various inland ports that were thriving in the 1800's when these barges/narrow boats were pulled by horses, before the introduction of the steam engine, then the diesel engine.

Well that's my history lesson for the day :wah:

Present day 'working' narrow boat, trading at the canalside at one of the inland waterway rallies.

Hello everyone! :-6

Helen: How are you doing these days? Been thinking about you and hope you're getting along okay :-4

Gill: Hello! That canal and picture was awesome! What's new with you?

Odie: Hope your fish are doing better!

Can you guys believe I woke up this morning and it's snowing!:-5 Just wanted to let you know that my vending business is doing very well. I have hired some people to check and fill the machines when I can't. So far so good but it's not until you start to turn a profit that the business will start to pay for itself. I give it another 3 months before that happens. Hope you all have a good day and I'll talk with you guys soon! :-4

We were supposed to be going out for a meal tonight, invited by two of Chris's neices who were passing through the area.

Unfortunately while I was preparing our dog Rex's meal, Rex (who loves his food) came trotting down the stairs to the kitchen and tripped over his own feet, in his hurry, and fell heavily down a couple of the stairs and landed awkwardly with his front legs spread very wide. He just stayed in that position and Chris and I thought it was the end for him (He's 15 yrs and a big German Shepherd), but we soothed him and managed to carefully get his legs more comfortable. He didn't make any squeak noises, he just looked a little shaken, but I went up the stairs to phone for the vet and as I was about to phone, I heard a scrambling on the stairs and Chris had managed to carry Rex's front end while the dog walked with his back legs up the stairs to the hall. He gently lowered the dog's front legs till they were firmly planted on the floor, and Rex stood there looking a little bemused, then casually walked into the sittting room. Chris and I both gently massaged his front shoulders and gently massaged his chest. Rex enjoyed all the fuss, licking his lips and having a satisfied look on his face. Chris and I were soooo relieved that he hadn't broken anything, and I noticed that Chris was shaking as much as I was ! Well we adore that lovely dog - he is part of our family!

I made up Rex's meal and brought it upstairs to the sitting room. He made short work of it, licking his dish clean, so we were so relieved that there seemed to be no lasting upset for the dog. We decided that there would be no more going down stairs for Rex, and closed the gate across the top of the stairs and pushed the bolt closed. (Chris had made the gate specially for a previous dog, and it was never removed), then we put a block across the stairs which led to the bedrooms (up another flight). When Rex needs to wee etc. he will be taken to the front garden through the front door, as it will be all on the same level as the sitting room.

However, I sent Chris off to meet his nieces while I dog sat, just in case there was a delayed reaction to his fall. The evening passed quietly as usual, and Rex settled onto 'his' sofa, getting on to it quite comfortably, thank goodness. He slept peacefully and looked very comfortable, so fingers crossed, there has been no lasting damage done.

So I dipped out of my evening out, but I didn't mind, as our lovely dog comes first. Chris returned later armed with some chicken korma and chips for me (I was ready for a good nosh!), and he informed me that he would be sleeping in the chair in the sitting room, as company for Rex. Unfortunately, Rex has been coming upstairs at bedtime and sleeping on a dog bed in our bedroom for the last couple of weeks, so we have the task of persuading him to stay in the sitting room to sleep at night and getting him out of the habit of coming up to our bedroom. Could be interesting, as he may bark at the block stopping him going upstairs! Oh well, I expect we'll manage. :-3

Hi everybody! Hope you are all enjoying a good day today! It's another nice, sunny day here, and I'm about to go out in it! :-6 :D

Thanks Odie and Jazzy for your good wishes for our Rex. He's back to normal today I'm pleased to report :D We have now established the gates across the stairs - the flight down to the kitchen and the flight up to the bedroom, so he will not be able to go to a different level and risk another fall on the stairs. Chris slept in the chair in the sitting room last night, and we'll probably carry on taking turns with that till Rex gets used to not going up to the bedroom at night. Although he wouldn't be able to get through the child gate that is across the bedroom stairs, he no doubt would bark if there was nobody down with him at night, at the moment - we're thinking of the neighbours ! He has a very deep and loud bark ! :wah:

Enjoy the rest of the day :-6 :D

Very similar to the stair gate we have.

Wouldn't it be better if he just went to bed with you?

then put the gate upstairs?

No, because if he did that he would still be climbing stairs wouldn't he?

How we have it now is that he will always be on one level, with no stairs to climb for any reason - he can even go out into the garden (the front garden, as the back garden requires him to go downstairs!). We have a split level house, built on a hillside! :p :wah:

I mean to block off the stairs 'upstairs with the gate'.......(once he is up there for bed,) just thought it might be easier for him to adjust.

hi odie,

this is what i cant understand, because my last bill WITH HEATING was so high, l made a lot of cut backs. the bill ive got now runs from 7th january to 7th april

i turned the heating off at nite and because the weathers been so good ive not had it on at all !!

i only use hot water to wash and do dishes. my grandaughter takes my washing home to do it and as i said i cant shower cos of my leg being in plaster.

anyway the estate agent i rent the property from is coming round to check the meter reading, my little flat is part of a bigger complex and the meters are in the main house, to which i have no access........... ive told him i want it checked out cos theres no way one person can use that amount of electricity in ten weeks when all ive got on is the tv,fridge, the occasional kettle for a hot drink and i dont even put the lights on cos it dosnt get dark til late now.

it works out at about £28 a week, sorry but thats bloody rediculous !!!! for just one person............... even my daughter dosnt spend that much for a three bedroom house and a family at home !!!

I`m glad you have him coming to check the meter as they can break and who knows if the reading was done right.

that is quite a lot per week, mine is not that high and I use more than you, now I know where from two different countries and I have no idea how they work that out.....but that is to much per week.

we even had a 9% increase......and mine is never been that high.

Hi all!

Thanks Odie for the best wishes for Chris - he's out at the moment playing snooker!:wah:

Helen, I should get that meter sorted. Demand a test meter in, and make sure it is for just your electricity and not the whole building's ! Perhaps it is including the previous tenant's account? Was the meter actually read, or was it an estimated amount? The estimated ones are always far too high. Just hold your ground, there is no way that you will have used that amount of electricity in your small place! Even if you had had the heating on 24/7 ffs. Get the electric people to sit down and work out what you would have needed on to clock up that amount! Make sure it is YOUR meter for just YOUR flat. What did you have to pay before, for the previous quarter? In the mean time, whilst the meter is being sorted, offer to pay perhaps £15 for each week, making a bill of £150, till things are sorted, at least you will have shown that you are not trying to wriggle out of paying anything. It's just that you honestly believe that the charge is excessive for the few things you have that use electricity! Is there another company you can swap to or do you have to stay with that one because you are just the tenant?

It may be worth asking the landlord if you could have a card meter installed? It costs a little more, but you are at least in control of what you use and there is nothing owing, as you pay up front! We have a 'key' meter, and it helps me to know that I won't have a nasty surprise bill at the end of 3 months, that I wouldn't be able to pay as a lump sum. Hey, don't forget that you are now entitled to 'cold payments' from the government during the winter. This may not come into force till next Autumn though.

hi gill,

after my last bill was £207, which i did expect cos i did have the heating on 24/7, i turned it off at night and only put it on when i really needed it.

im out at work or darts six nites a week and i also eat out on those nites too so theres no need to cook.

when i am here i only have the tv, a small lamp and my electric blanket ( for a couple of hours ) on.

as i said in my last post, my youngest, with a family of SIX in a three bed house and everything that entails, constant hot water, washing drying baths every day cooking, kids in their various rooms with tv's and games consoles on the go uses about £20 a week !!!

anyway, i shall wait and see what this chap has to say tomorrow, he's due here at about 10-30am.

if i dont get any joy then i shall seek advice from somewhere else !!!

i cant have a key or card meter cos the meters are in the hall of the main house and the estate agent has the only key, which im not allowed to have use of except to take a reading if its an estimated bill which this one apparantly wasnt !!!!
