It still needs to be removed, Betty. Imagine the state chef will be in tomorrow if she drinks that lot.

To whom did you sell the other one? My accounting shows no such sale?

All guests gather round the granite inglenook in the main lounge. Miss B, see if chef is capable of joining us or whether she has retired early, again. It's storytime.

We welcome contributions from all but remember, it is not a story for the fainthearted. Bettheia's is haunted, the area around here is haunted, Cornwall is haunted. And the unseen guests are not always friendly. They like to scare and to surprise in unlikely ways. If our story isn't scarey enough, they will "help" us. And maybe it would be preferable for us without their help...

It's dark outside, the fire is dimming to just its glowing embers, the candles are nearly burned down. The air is still and calm...or so it seems...

Betty! Where are you? I'm scaring myself now, all on my own here. Hurry up!

Are you all sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin...

a few years ago, not long after Miss B and I took over this establishment, there was a loud thud at the front door late one night. Miss B and I, who were supping a tiny glass of mead before retiring to bed, nearly jumped out of our skins and were each pushing the other forward as the volunteer to see who the visitor was. I lost (Betty is pushier than I).

I was relieved when I opened the door to a sweet, if wet and bedraggled young maid. "Please take pity on me," she begged. My horse threw me and bolted and I've walked for miles to find a place to take me in." Before I could answer the girl, she had run past me into the entrance hall. My initial sense of relief began to wane, just a little. We knew nothing about this girl, we knew not whether her tale was true. And now, she was in our house.........

Her name was Flo, once dried and tidied up she was an alluring pretty young thing, with a surreal quality about her that over time our customers absolutely adored. Flo was also a good worker, keen to get on with any job to earn her keep and please her mistresses, but it was at night time she worried us. After locking up and a small glass of mead before retiring each evening, both Theia and I would hear stange noises throughout the inn after we'd all gone up. After some discussion we realised that our Flo was up to something and we planned to creep down one night to try and discover what was causing the strange noises...........

Blimey!! I hate to interrupt so spine chilling a tale - merely to say hi honeys I'm home. But Hi Honeys I'm home!!! Great skiing.

(Pam creeps into the warmth and light around the fire, and listens spellbound as the strange tale unwinds)

Some time later....

(AussieskibunnyPam is still sitting in the corner, well really she went to sleep. I think she was hoping everyone in FG would leap up and say.. golly gosh, Pam's back, we missed her.. life just wasn't the same etc etc, and all that kinda thing, instead.. zilch. Nobody even noticed she wasn't around, let alone missed her goddesslike presence. SIGH.

This might be a good time to do another magnificent sulk session. Yep. I'm gonna raid the fridge in this sorry establishment, make myself a bacon sarnie, have a glass of good Cornish creamy milk, then I'm gonna flounce off, with the usual door bang. Or - in keeping with the story line - maybe a bloodcurdling scream, an eldrich banshee-type screeeeeeech, then I'm gonna BANG the dooor really really LOUD, or creak it shut... leaving inside the shadowy clustering blustering creatures with their icy breath and gnarled claws.. groaning hideously in the dark night... )

You left us Pammie. You left, grecia, betty and me to fend for ourselves in our Cornish hostelry. You gave not a thought to the predicament we might encounter when there were only three of us to post at Bettheia's. Oh no, skiiing was far more important than the welfare of this establishment and its proprietors and staff.

But it has to be said, I forgive very easily, I'm known for it..theia the forgiver is my name around here. So welcome back, Pammie, and I hope you had a really good time (unlike us here, struggling to keep our heads above water)

Seriously, so good to see you, Pammie :-6

Stone the crows, Theia - yer tugging at me heartstrings!!! It's emotional blackmail!!! There was me on the moral high ground, hard done by, injured innocence, noble in suffering - and now ya reckon yer the victim and I'm the evil perpetrator of dastardly deeds and general sins of omission. Alas, I am undone.

I shall hie me instantly to the kitchen, crank up the aga, stir the embers of the peat fire, throw together a batch of soda bread. Then I shall get me hence and shalleth sleweth a pesky pisky to toss in the pot - with dew of yew, nettles and turnips and leaf of dandelion, eye of newt, froth of frog, spawn of willothewisp and garlic.

Look, if producing a replica cardi of the original is the only way to get Theia back in here, then it just has to be done! Agreed??

The piskies are already forming a revolt, they have a leader in a trench coat and he is rallying the troops. Damon, my spy in the ranks has told me that they are planning a protest on St. Pirans Day!

Pam, if you help me now, we can get this lot working 24/7, get the cardi finished and get Theia back to her rightful place. On the morning of St. Pirans Day we will release the piskies for a party, they can drink all the scrumpy they like, eat pasties and clotted cream until they are sick for all I care, as long as the cardi is finished. ;)
