Well I've just seen on Sky News that 300 fishermen are stranded on an 8 mile wide ice floe which has broken away from the mainland on Lake Erie in Ohio ! Rescue is now being undertaken. I think they said that about 100 had been safely transported from the ice floe so far.

Oh Ducky !! I did wonder if you would get it, seemed inevitable really, when you are surrounded by it and tending to the others who had it. So sorry Ducky, something that you could well do without - just take it easy Mrs. and rest up a bit, and get over it properly. :-6

Hi Helen, well you have a bit of company Mrs. That will keep you on your toes :wah: Also possibly save you having to take Wally for his walks !
Well it's snowing again here, and quite heavily. It may be a bit on the wet side, but the temp. is dropping all the time and it is settling well. If we get a few hours of this, the side roads will be impassable - it's quite interesting now, with eejits trying to drive up the hill ! :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl
We're still managing to keep warm, just ! I just hope our two halogen fires keep going ! I am living in my fleece at the moment

Gawd, Ducky, I feel for you
I'm afraid I just don't do 'sick' with other people throwing up - makes me feel like joining them
So sorry you had all that and being ill yourself, no blinkin fun at all. I hope you are feeling a lot better Mrs. and of course the family.
That's the trouble with viruses, very rare for folks in the same family to escape. I always will wonder why I did not get C-dif when my hubby was so very ill with it at the beginning of 2008, and my son got it too, but not so bad. It didn't touch me, even though I slept in the same bed as hubs !!!
Take care Ducky :-6 :-4

Made the right choice. Cleaned all the bedding today and the other essential stuff.

No Ducky............. the assessor is coming to have a look at things on Wednesday morning sometime ..................... only took from the 16th of January ........... quite quick really, when it's been below freezing almost all the time since then ! Hubs and son are out this evening playing snooker. The temp. is about freezing point outside and there's a warning of moderate snowfalls tonight ! As I say, we may have the heating sorted in the spring ........................... if we're very lucky. I still can't get rid of this cough that I was left after my flu thingy after Christmas. thought i was coming down with something unknown to mankind yesterday. got back in from walking the dog and went straight to bed, ( aching from head to foot, freezing cold, ) complete with pj's, dressing gown and extra blankets and slept on and off for 16hrs :-2
think all my sleepless nights have caught up with me and i finally had to give in.
had a computor free day too, which rid me of my headache !!
feel so much better now, amazing what a bit of sunshine does :-6

Hi Helen, so glad you are feeling a little better. You seem to be jumping from one bug to another - does that make you a 'bugger' ? :wah:
I just hope you continue to improve Mrs.
I'm not too bad thanks, just very stressed with stuff here at home.
I'll either be offline from the weekend for some time, or................. well I just don't know. Depends what happens on Friday. I'll try to let you know if I'll be able to get back on here. Oh the central heating problem, in comparison, is just a little niggle.
Still, as I have said earlier, we have to be grateful that we're not suffering like the Aussies. Many, many people have lost everything. Some of them were able to save pets, but they have only got what they stand up in. So tragic.
I just hope you continue to improve Mrs.

Hello everybody !! Well we had the gas central heating assessor called today. Apparently we will have to have a completely new set-up. Combi-boiler plus all radiators and pipes. A very disrupting job, but we will have to make the best of it, cos we will have to stay in the house while the job is being done ! However the good/bad news is that the work will not start for at least two months. Yes I just knew that winter would be over before we could get our central heating back !!
I expect they will send a proper estimate etc. through the post some time.
I hope you are all keeping warm, or cool, depending where in the world you are :wah:

Hi Gill........ Just popped in to say hello.
I hope the little scroats haven't returned. I got my local Tory MP to join in with cutting back all the tree's and bushes on our war memorial which gives the police far better vision as they drive by. The little sods have no-where to hide now and we haven't had any trouble for months.
Good luck with the new heating. I just had mine done. They were booked and then we had all that snow. It meant being without hot water or heat for nearly two days but we didn't want to cancel. We had a new combi-bioler put in as well and now it's all done, it's so worth it.
Just make sure you wrap up warm and prepare some flasks of hot water and tea if your heating and water are going to be off.

I don't think they do care very much. We asked why it was going to be so long before anything gets under way. We were told that we weren't the only ones in this situation and the work was undertaken in order, and that was the fairest they could be. All the other people waiting for work to be done were pensioners, so there is not a lot we can do. We are probably better off than some of them - at least we have a butane gas double burner/grill and a small electric oven/grill, an electric kettle and also an ordinary kettle to put on the gas burners, a warm water shower in the bathroom and two free-standing halogen heaters ! It could be worse !!
Thanks for caring Odie, and all of you who have posted here, bless your cotton socks :-6 :-4

Thanks for posting, Oscar. Our heating and hot water has been off since January 16 th !!! We had a carbon monoxide detector screeched it's warning, so we turned the gas off, called the emergency gas people out, and they put a 'Do not use' sign on our boiler! We've been without central heating and hot running water for nearly a month now, and it will be more than another two months before we will be able to get back to 'normal' !! :-5

I'm shocked too, Odie, but I'm not really surprised ! We are managing to keep warm thankfully, as it flippin well snowed again this evening and it settled, but then it turned to rain. We were warned that it would do this, then it would freeze as the clouds went away overnight, just ready for the rush-hour with people trying to get to work in the icy conditions. Also many areas are running short of salt for the road gritters, so that bodes ill if there is much more snow and freezing weather !

Hello H !! We're OK thanks (at the moment), and I do hope you are OK down under. Well that is good news about the pouring rain, I hope it can help put out all the fires. Hope it isn't just a quick sharp heavy shower - because that wouldn't be much good - needs a deluge to help those poor fire-fighters out and save more devastation. You keep safe H. and take it easy, because I bet the temp. is still fairly high there.

Just felt like putting this pic on here. This was a beautiful comfortable instrument to play, and it broke my heart to have to sell it :-1 But I needed the money to pay our electric bill at the time. We had a gig that night, so I had to buy a much cheaper guitar, a Hohner 'verithin' semi acoustic from the same place I sold my 'gibbo'. They allowed me to have a super guitar case for the Hohner for free, and I've still got that case, and my 12 string semi-acoustic just manages to fit in it.
I sold the Hohner verithin many years ago - it had a Bigsby tremolo arm (for those who may be interested :wah:), it was quite a good guitar for my purposes, in the band. When I decided to pack in playing professionally and travelling all over the Midlands, I sold the Hohner, as I've said, and I bought a 12 string guitar, which I had always had a hankering after. It can be played as purely an acoustic guitar, or plug in the electric pick-ups and play through my amplifier.
I started off my career in gigging with a Vox AC30 combi amp. It was a valve amplifier, was only supposed to give out 30 watts, but I swear it seemed to kick out 3 times that volume !! I regret selling that amp. because it had such a good sound. If you see old pics of the Beatles you will see they used Vox AC30s in their early days! I replaced it with an H|H combi amp. That was a solid state amp., fairly robust and gave a good sound - I still have that amp ! I still have all my gear including Beyer microphone and stand, my affects pedals for the guitar etc, etc.
A few years ago I toyed with the idea of starting up another band and calling ourselves 'Granny And The Owd Rockers' or something similar  :yh_rotfl
I reckon it would have been great fun ! But I was only semi serious about it, and now my voice, through lack of use and cigarettes, is not very good - a bit croakey really :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl, and also I don't think it would have gone down very well me playing the Stones 'Satisfaction' on a 12 string semi acoustic guitar ! :yh_rotfl although, thinking about it now, the idea has a sort of novelty value don't you think ?
Sorry if I've bored you with this nonsense, but I was just trying to get a different mind set and get myself thinking about something different from my present RL problems.
I suppose I am using this thread as a sort of 'journal' at the moment

Morning Gill and what a drag about your good guitar. I have a trombone that my son played last year and would like to either ebay it or sell it on Craig's List. Will have to look it up and see what it's worth. Anybody want to buy a used Ford Explorer?

I remember when I took my driving test (a few years ago !). We had an old morris saloon, don't ask me what model it was, but it was made about 1946 !! It was the same model as the one in the link below, only it was all black. If I remember rightly we bought it for £20 (it had road tax as well !!)
It wasn't in such smart condition as this one, but it ran very well and was very reliable. I had learnt to drive in this old car, and my husband taught me (contrary to the belief that it is not a good idea for close relatives to teach driving - I did pass!)
During my test I was required to do an emergency stop, and when the examiner slapped his note pad on the dash, I had to stop as if a child had run out in front of the car ! Well having checked that there was nobody on this side road, the examiner slapped his pad on the dashboard. I slapped the breaks on. The tyres screeched. The back started to swing out into the road, so I instinctively steered into the skid. The car straightened and stopped. Now that road was bone dry, no gravel, no muddy bits etc. etc. perfect surface for such an exercise, yet the car had started to slew round even though the steering wheel was perfectly straight !
Anyway, as I said, I did pass my test to my amazement - the examiner said that I did the correct actions when the car started to break away at the emergency stop, and he advised me to take the car for a check up as soon as I could. Well we took it in the next day, and the garage owner put it up on the ramp. He called us to have a look after he had thoroughly checked the underneath, and he pointed out that the chassis was cracked right across and it would cost us more than the car was worth, to have it repaired. He said it just was not worth doing, and we should get rid of it as soon as possible as it was a danger and could get us killed !
He said the whole framework of the car was twisted consequently and it drove crabwise instead of straight !
We sadly called the breaker's yard to come and collect it, and away it went, the following day. Still, it did allow me to pass my driving test !
Oh, by the way, the garage man said the chassis had been in that state for many months, judging from the corrosion along the crack! It must have been in that state when we bought it, and I'd been having driving lessons in it, and my hubby had driven to and from work each day in it !! He had checked it thoroughly underneath before we bought it, but it must have been covered with mud and grime for it not to have been seen then ! Another lesson learnt - you can't be too thorough checking a prospective car purchase ! :driving:

You are very lucky indeed Gill! In that case, you wouldn't want the old Explorer as it needs a ton of work and a catalytic converter which is very expensive. Hubs will never fix it and I'm seriously thinking of having it towed outta here.
Gill's talk mutter hut
Hi Ducky ! Well if it's going to cost a lot to get it on the road legally etc. It's probably the only thing to do - either sell it for spares or repair (somebody may need some bits off it ), or just get it taken for scrap. At least you will gain a bit of room, and you will be rid of a bit of an eyesore, because it will only sit and gradually rot away and be a nuisance. Do you have mandatory road safety checks on vehicles over two years old, each year like they do in the UK ? We call ours the MOT test (Ministry of Transport test). You have to be in possession of a current MOT certificate and current vehicle insurance when you apply for the annual road fund licence (the tax disc that has to be displayed in full view on the front windscreen).

Yes, all cars must be inspected every year for emissions, etc. The old truck won't pass this year and hubs never bothered to get it inspected last year so yes, it just sits in the driveway:mad:. I'm going to call our insurance place today and see if I can dump it off the plan but I'll have to turn the plates over to the state and then get the owner's card & title and make some calls. Or maybe I should just put a for sale sign on it and maybe get some cash:wah:.
It figures that your heat won't be put in till April! But it's still chilly in April or it is here at least. We turn off the heat around early May and start opening the windows and get all that dead winter air out. I find it hard to believe that you just can't call a plumber/heating contractor and that you have to go through the bullsh*t.
