Bit of a naughty question, Nomad, since the the US had a big hand in its rapid demise! Don't get me wrong, you did us a favour: the fact we were bankrupt at the end of WW2 meant we had few delusions we could hold on to the Empire, and the Suez Crisis removed those.

That's all history now, and we tied our colours to the American mast in NATO. The Soviet threat was of greater concern than a desire for petty recriminations. But it might have been better for Africa if we had relinquished control there a little more slowly.

234 schools are closed out of 276 in the county, and we've had no where near the amount of snow you guys up north have had! :rolleyes:

It was a consequence of that mass killer Reagan in the White House instructing his henchmen to back the demented Thatcher, that's the reason it happened. In any sane world she'd have lost the fleet and had to beg Galtieri to get her troops home. If he'd had any sense he'd have interned the lot of them, too.

That is true Nomad, but their weather is warmer so it turns to slush quickly. I was watching the news last night and they showed London, I almost laughed out loud. The little bit of snow was already turning slushy. Heck after what we have been through with that deep freeze of December and January what they have is bathing suit season, LOL. Well, it rained all night and most of the day today. Result: snow gone.

On the other handthere are some risks of flooding on lower ground, and it's bloody freezing, so tomorrow promises to be exciting.

Thanks Spot. LOL, hun you can get 3 or more of the US states into just one of our provinces if the map is anything to go by.

My big atlas does show too much detail and also shows Wales as a separate entity. The little atlas does not show enough so I will just accept that Cornwall is at the bottom left point of England.

Woke up to 5 inches of snow, kids were wanting a snow day but it never happened. Got to work to get a barrage of phone calls from our colleagues in South and Mid Wales to say all their phone calls were being directed to us as either most couldn't get into work or were going home as it was snowing heavily.

Then we get a phone call to say that Dave from our office is in hospital, he fell last night and broke his elbow, he was having surgery this afternoon. The Kathy who is pregnant and due in May called to say she was waiting on the midwife as she also fell last night and was in agony, bruised cocxys (sp). Kim had had to abandon her car, a mechanic she knew was going to tow it back home for her. This afternoon we had loads more snow and as its so cold it stayed...No more since.

Honey, you would consider yourself very fortunate if Canada ever bought you. Yes, we have our problems with the current government but nothing lasts forever. By and large we are a peaceful, non-aggressive people who are able to accept others into our fold. There is a constant striving for equality among all regardless of race, color or creed. Other than paying the same tax that we do Ireland would have the freedom to live peacefully. We have very little unemployment, a damn good health care system, and public and private schooling depending on your choice. We have lots and lots of Irish people here and no one is trying to run away. We don't use or abuse people, we aren't out to take anyone's lands or rights away from them. Our biggest problem among the population is that the USA is always after our resources (of which we have plenty) and one stupid prime minister after another is always trying to sell it to them without us knowing what is going on. If the US would stop destroying and polluting their own land and water they wouldn't always be begging for ours. Ireland would be damn lucky if Canada ever bought it.

Well I suppose if we had to be taken over by someone, we could do worse than Canada, yes; Canada or maybe Sweden would probably be our best options. Though if we can maintain having an independent country at all, that would be nice. :wah:

Sweden is good, so is Finland. If we had to sell ourselves to someone I would probably choose Finland.

Hmmn, interesting offers, I love Haggis, though you never know when your going to need a spare tyre, though the Scots being our Celtic cousins and all that would be the least painful, then again they are our Celtic cousins so we would fight a lot and there would be a lot of Drinking. Well either offer will be considered (as long as course as you agree to also take on the countries public and private debt liabilities, payable in Euro bonds).
