Yes, vegetables are good for you, as is a balanced diet and a healthy sex life.

Yes actually, we will have cold weather anyway. I work in an agri-research park, and the old farm hands are saying that the old farmers who remember the last very wet summer of 1947 also say that the subsequent winter was a freezing one. Seeing as Britain and Ireland experience the same weather in general it will be the same over there.

Then again, you can never predict the weather with complete certainty, but there is probably a grain of truth in this.

I have also heard this said, I have also heard it said that if there is severe weather in the states, we get some of it about 2-3 weeks later, but i don't know what the truth is in this.

Apparently there are also other signs which farmers can look out for like when birds arrive here for the winter which points to cold weather in january. They have been saying that all the signs are there for cold weather.

Here, it has been extremely warm for the time of year right up until about 2 days when the temperature dropped.

This is interesting. Of course predicting the weather is famously difficult past about 3 days. Long term trends usually hold true; however, because of climate change, its becoming harder to predict the weather patterns as there is a definite climate shift occurring, but it will be interesting to see if the pattern this winter is the same as the one in 47/48.

On a related subject, what is your feeling about the artic ice which may have it's summer cover totally melted within five years, in terms of flooding in the Uk and weather patterns?

Potentially catastrophic, and the way its going it looks more likely every year. However, in this advice column I refrain from putting my scientist hat on, as this advice column is all about random insults and meandering social problems.

That's what I think too, and I am rather horrified that the climate change conference has had so little coverage on the news.It is in some ways even more important than the fact that Gordon Brown missed the signing ceremony.

But as for random insults and meandering social comments, I have a personal problem you might be able to help with.

I am addicted to the internet, what should I do?

At present you should get back to work as its 2.17 pm. I shall consider your problem at my own leisure in the meantime.

I'm not at work, so my time right now is my own. That's the problem I think - I'm not allowed to surf the internet while I'm at work, so I need to overcome this problem before I go back to work in the New Year else I shall have severe withdrawal symptoms.

I see, well you will have to ballot your co-workers on their right to access their personal information via the net, once this meaningless ballot is underway you will have to write in a clause in invisible ink on the document that states that you have the right to surf the net and get paid compensation of 2.50 Euro an hour for the wear and tear on your eyeballs, once the thing gets through, reveal the invisible clause and your employer's will have no choice but to allow you to surf the internet all day. You will be the toast of the office.

Well from where I'm standing, Snooze...

And Galbers - hey Snookums, it's Chrissie! Enough to give any girl stars in her eyes. Why not pack your bag and head along over to Sinny and we can toss a shrimp or three on the barbie? I'll fix you a bacon sarnie, if you bring some good Irish bacon with you. And you can even do a St Patrick and banish the vegemite from these sunny shores.

Is that what we have Dr Galbally - just a doctor patient relationship???? Is that how you think of me??? Is that all I am to you - just another sad little hoi polloi coming to you for diagnosis, cure, reassurance, more tranks, a little understanding in this harsh world????????

Don't deny it. We were meant for each other!!! The first time I poked out my tongue, I sensed a strange togetherness! The first time you hammered my knee, our hearts beat as one, in tango time. When you stuck that thing in my ear, I knew you cared.

Alas... I am undone!!!!

Should I sulk somewhere with a large box of comforting chockies??

Should I dance on your face in my sharpest, tallest stiletto heels then go off with the handsome pizza delivery guy????

It started as a sore throat, moved into my chest, seemed to go away and now I've got a head cold. Is this progression normal? It's pissing me off.

Yes of course its a strict doctor-patient relationship, and make sure thats what you tell the medical council.

My dear woman, of course I care, about what though has yet to be fully decided by a committe and I will give the results when I get them.

You should not throw yourself into the sea as that would be melodramatic, chocolates are fine, may I suggest some Leonidas chocolates from Belgium as they are very good. Any attempt to dance on my face will lead to counter-measures involving me dancing the "walls of limerick" on the bridge of your nose in my wellingtons. But lets not get to that sorry state of affairs, as I believe we should give peace a chance as we were once urged by John and Yoko in 1971.

Dear humanoid, yes that sounds fairly typical of a cold, as long as you have some paracetmol, and some vit C drinks you will probably recover, however, should any of your limbs go green and fall off then you will need to see a doctor as that may be advanced gangrene.

Your advice is certainly wonderous and gives cause for much deep thinking.

Why is it less frightening to watch the Excorcist in the daytime than at night?

If I watch it with my fingers over my eyes does this count as watching it?
