While I'm very sympathetic to Jimbo and his family at this difficult time, I don't appreciate threads like this. It feels like I'm being strong armed into giving money and I really don't appreciate it. I 'm pretty sure I'm not a cheapskate, but I get my back up when it's repeatedly pointed out that some people haven't given their fair share and to cough up the cash.
My apologies for inserting my little bit of dark cloud in an otherwise sunny thread, but I felt that needed to be said.
Best of luck Jimbo, I'll be thinking of you and yours.:yh_flower
no worrys snoozie i honestly would not want any one to feel they were obliged to help out
all want is a small little something from one friend to another
i would not want to take advantage of any one and i have in fact politely turned down from two different kind people offers of one person paying for my flight and indeed another paying for hotels when i get there
for i felt these offers were far too generous and these people insisted i could not pay them back
imagine if your loved one was laying in a hospital bed on the other side of the world and you could not afford to get there its a horrible position to be in
and i would not wish anyone to feel how i feel right now
i anyone feels they dont want to contribute i honestly would rather you didnt
i will get there sooner or later my girl is not ou of hospital for another week
thanks to every
your kindness is quite humbeling i have to go now to get back to sue

Snooze, fair play to you for being honest, no-body should complain about that. Honesty and having the strength of character to say something that may not make you popular is a great virtue.
It's a shame that you feel this way and I hope that it is not anyone's intention to make you, or anyone else, feel pressurised into giving. I think we all accept that not everyone is in the position to give, I know that twelve months ago I would have been able to give a lot more than I can now but at the same time the adage that every little helps is certainly true.
I have been following this thread and I haven't noticed that we have been repeatedly asked to 'cough up' but I apologise if I've missed that.
I don't know Jim and Suzy well but from what I have seen of them I am sure that your thoughts and prayers will be appreciated as much as money. If I were in their position I would for me.

No offense to anyone but I think it sets a very bad precedent to use FG to solicit money for any cause. (No matter how noble it may be)
There are just to many ripoffs out there. In NO WAY am I implying this is such.

You know, I'm all for free speech but I think this is really inappropriate and if someone has an objection, it could be handled privately rather than bring it here. This is a thread for friends trying to help another friend. It's not a solicitation by any means as I see it. Maybe stop and think about the feelings of someone here who is a friend to many of us and will have to see your words. This is embarrassing. If you can't or don't want to give a little cash then maybe you could offer some positive thoughts or something nice like that.

Okay, so this is an interenet forum; it's also a place where people have formed pretty close bonds. Why shouldn't some of us help a friend out?
Can I just point out that Jimbo feels badly enough about this as it is - can some of ya stop making him feel worse please?
I don't want make to anyone feel bad I just don't think it is approriate to use a public FG thread to solicit money this way. I don't want to go into detailed reasons because I think some of you know Jimbo personally so this is probably a valid cause. I think perhaps if we put our minds to it other ways could be setup to solicit funds or do whatever was neededto help him out.

I hear what your saying Zink. Yes the world is full of people who would rip their mother's off.
On the other hand there are lots of nice people who just want to help another friend. I for one have grown very tired of worrying about the people could do to you on the internet.:-5
I, and everyone I know here at FG has nothing but the best intentions when wanting to help Jimbo and Suzy. That is all I need to know to offer my help in anyway possible. Screw the **** heads of the world, they aren't going to stop me from helping someone out when they need it.

Come guys we are all entitled to an opinion good or bad . Hammys idea is wonderful and Zinky and Snooze are both making a valid point so lets not fall out over it . I would hate to think people are being petty and making complaints to admin just because they feel differently

I didn't make any complaints to anyone. I'm just worried about people getting in trouble. I don't know if this would be considered a charity or not but in my state there are disclosure laws etc about donating money to a chairty. If it's done on the Internet then you have to post a page with documentation about the charity etc..I appear to have stirred up a hornets nest because some of think I am attacking Hammy (who I love) and jimbo who I know nothing about..If you don't permit people to question things you are sking for trouble down the road..

Most state that law applies. This situation I would say friends are transfering fund to his/her bank in England to make it easier than putting a check in the mail nothing more.

I can understand your concerns Zinky and we have had these discussions before on FG.....this is not the only time that FGers have rallied round to help a mate.
This is my take on it . .....no one has solicited money for Jimbo and he will be mortified when he reads this.....all people want to do is rally round and help a mate.
It is up to each individual to decide whether or not they want to help a fellow 'Gardener' when needed. ...knowing these guys as I do, their hearts are BIG and they look out for each other.......
By reading previous posts and threads you can get a pretty good 'feel' for people.......
FG is a pretty unique place with unique people who have enough 'life experience' to make judgements and decisions.

Jimbo, here's a joke for you!
A mushroom goes into a bar and the bartender says "Sorry, we don't serve mushrooms in here." The mushroom says, "Why not? I'm a fun guy!" (fungi)
Isn't that a groaner?!
Here's another one!
Why do bees have sticky hair?
Because they have honeycombs!
:wah: I got that one off a popsicle stick!
I'll catch hell for this one, but have you seen Stevie Wonder's house?? No? It's okay- he hasn't either!
:-3 Oooo.....that's bad taste, huh?
How about we turn this thread back around and give Jimbo some funnies?? He asked for some jokes, let's not let him down!
You guys had better chime in or I'll start telling really baaaad elephant jokes......!! You don't want me to get started.....

Perhaps it would be a good idea to open up another thread on donating money to causes, im happy to donate to jim & suzy & have, all be it a small amount compared to some, totally believing what is happening to them & want to help & applaud hamster for starting the thread but i do understand what snooze & zinky are saying as well
My big concern would be - we have between 300 & 500 lurkers here per day, given that, you have to admit its possible for some of them to be thinking (oh boy there's pickings here) do you see what i mean?
We welcome & trust everyone in such a short space of time
Please think about what ive said before attacking me :-3
