I'm gonna adopt a duck for my mum. When she was given duck for dinner she couldn't eat it and cried because she kept thinking of the ones she feeds on the way to work.. I think this will be a much more appreciated Christmas duck.
my little home is over loaded with animal friends. Wish i had more money and room:) But to me that is a wonderful gift of love:-4

The festive season has started in the Netherlands. On sat 15 nov Sinterklaas arrived officially in our country. Every year around this time he and his helpers 'arrive' on a boat from their home in Spain and almost every town has a Sint arrive although each year a different town hosts the 'official' arrival. ( the one shown on TV)

Thousands of children line the streets to welcome him and his helpers they sing and wait for zwarte piet (black pete ) to hand out sweets and little biscuits. He will then be received by the Mayor and gives a speech to the assembled crowd.

The children celebrate Sinterklaas or the feest of St Nickolaas on dec 5th when they put their shoe near to the fireplace to recieve a gift from the holy man.

This has always been a feast day for children here. for photos Nijmegen Online.nl - Foto's intocht Sint Nikolaas 2008

Sorry its not in English but the kids faces say it all.

we had a live tree one year before we got the artificial one, that had roots and we planted it in the yard, we decorate it with lights every year too. that thing has grown and grown and grown! :yh_rotfl

you have to have a ladder now to decorate it, and it grows so much from one year to the next that i have to buy more lights for it every year! :yh_rotfl
