Marriage shouldn't be addressed in law at all. It's a moral issue. but that's another thread.

Gay men who have sex with women cos they dont want to be gay aren't bi.

If you are bi you form attachments to people because you are attracted to them, regardless of whether they have boobs or a willy

Just interested, are there two different rules for homosexuals depending on their gender? Are male gays more immoral than female couples?

And, I'd also bear in mind that 'real' lesbian couples aren't like in the movies, tbh you probably wouldn't want to see a lot of 'real' lesbians at it, and......they certainly wouldn't want a man involved either :wah:

I've also known quite a few women that get turned on by gay (male) porn, so it does work both ways!!

If movies "should" uphold a version of morality, whose should it be? Mine? Accountable's ? Far Rider's? Should they paint a picture of the world as it really is - as it is for some people - or how some of us want it to be? Should movies reflect reality or be aspirational?

They can be all of those things, it seems to me, and still say something meaningful about the human condition. I'd rather watch a tender film about two men in love than a film like Hannibal, which shows someone's brains being eaten whilst he's still alive. Moral repugnance is a moveable feast, is my point.

The ones that I go to see will uphold my version of morality. You can go to the ones that uphold yours, assuming you have one. (sorry, couldn't resist :yh_blush)

All manner of perverts and other offensive people may put any kind of trash on tape they wish, within guidelines of consent/abuse etc. I don't have to like it. I don't have to accept it. I don't have to remain reticent. I don't have to respect it, and I don't have to respect others for liking it.

Thanks, I consider my moral code pretty rigorous (compassion and non-judgmentalism appearing very high on my list indeed). :p

Can you give me an example of a recent movie which upholds your concept of morality, Accountable ? I'd be interested to know.

Brokeback Mountain is the only one that comes to mind that doesn't.

Interesting that the conversation has turned from the merits of the movie (or lack thereof) to one individual's morality. :yh_think

(Jives steps into formation with Far and Accountable.) I second the motion. I won't see this movie, I won't rent this movie, and I won't buy the DVD.

As to who's morals we should use to determine what is and is not acceptable in our society...that's easy, this is America. We go by the majority.

Never thought I'd say it Far Rider but good on you. It's nice to know that there are some men who can get their kicks from their wife and wife only and that not all men have their tongues hanging out for all available women. My husband gets strange looks when he says that he's not interested in porn or other women, I think that most people assume it's just natural but in our opinions it's just not necessary if you have a good an healthy relationship.

I don't agree with your homosexuality stance as you probably know but I suppose differing opinion is the spice of life, and of a good debate. As long as it doesn't become discriminatory and aggressive I suppose it's OK.

Just out of interest Far Rider, if you encounter gay people in your life, do you let them know that you think that they're immoral or do you relate to them in a normal way but hold your opinions nevertheless? Just interested.

I can't speak for Far, but as far as I'm concerned, courtesy can still be given to anyone. It costs nothing to be courteous to someone...even if you don't agree with their lifestyle.:o

Hmmm, looking back through this thread, who started that d'you think? ;)

As to getting by without judging ; I didn't say I had found enlightenment! If I had, I'd be sitting in the lotus position on a mountain in Nepal, or something. I fully accept, to be serious for a sec, that we all judge, all the time. Even when we think we aren't. I just wish we were better at judging ourselves before we turn it outwards and judge other people.

Never heard of Treasures of the Snow. Is it good?

BowsAnd I yours ; that was a well-expressed post.

As to why we like immoral films ? I think I'd flip the meaning there by suggesting that it's not that we like immoral films so much as we have lost generally speaking interest in qualities like honour, compassion, integrity, and ordinary acts of kindness (which aren't ordinary at all). For instance, why do we rave about films like Ocean's 11, Collateral, The Italian Job etc - which render thrilling the act of theft or murder?

Why does Final Destination 3 (which I saw at the weekend) make hilarious the act of death ? And worse, that has no spiritual or moral context for death, so that just becomes a case of who can die most unexpectedly?

I have no idea, save to say that I believe we live in an age of emptiness, both of head and heart.

There arefilms which honour the qualities I've mentioned ; I think the success of the LOTR films was because they had heart and soul - a real sense of sacrifice, principle and spirituality. People are hungry for that, I think.

And when I saw Brokeback Mountain, I felt the same - it was a beautiful story about loveand human complexity ; and that's why I liked it, not because it was a film about gay men.

Now back to the flippant. Clancy........ever wondered about toblerone? I mean, those ridges are there for a reason, right?

Slow Hand

Pointer Sisters

As the midnight moon, was drifting through

The lazy sway of the trees

I saw the look in your eyes, lookin' into mine

Seeing what you wanted to see

Darlin' don't say a word, cause I already heard

What your body's sayin' to mine

I'm tired of fast moves

I've got a slow groove...

On my mind

I want a man with a slow hand

I want a lover with an easy touch

I want somebody who will spend some time

Not come and go in a heated rush

I want somebody who will understand

When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

On shadowed ground, with no one around

And a blanket of stars in our eyes

We are drifting free, like two lost leaves

On the crazy wind of the night

Darlin', don't say a word, 'cause I already heard

What your body's sayin' to mine

If I want it all night

You say it's alright

We got the time

'Cause I got a man with a slow hand

I got a lover with an easy touch

I found somebody who will spend some time

Not come and go in a heated rush

I found somebody who will understand

When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

If I want it all night

Please say it's alright

It's not a fast move

But a slow groove

On my mind

'Cause I got a man with a slow hand

I got a lover with an easy touch

I found somebody who will spend some time

Not come and go in a heated rush

I found somebody who will understand

When it comes to love, I want a slow hand
