fantastic! I know Raven's down south and there's a lot to see and do but try to get out and about. Oxford is stunning and not too far away...also Stratford, probably a two hour journey from her house...see where shakespeare lived. It's very quaint. I think you'll probably feel very closed in, the U.K. is so small compared with what you have. May is usually really pretty as well. You'll have a fabulous time.

Thanks, :)

I do get a kick out of the difference in travel distances. For me it is nothing to drive for 3 hours to see my best friend and see nothing in between. Yes to have everything arms length away will be a totally new experience.

well I don't think they have an awful lot of roundabouts in the states, so I would imagine they were a bit confusing at first.

Ahhh that is what makes me giggle. I had friends come from germany thinking they could cross canada in a day, and take an hour and whip over to Vancouver, until I told them The entire UK fits into the province of Alberta almost 3 times ahahahaha

We Canadians love to drive, we were raised to drive far.

I skipped all the previous posts.

I've driven that intersection in Swindon many times. The Magic Roundabout :D . One large roundabout with 4 (or is it 5?) smaller roundabouts around it. Basically, it's a large parking lot with circles and curved arrows painted at random.

I finally figured out the best way to taverse it safely: 1) Aim the car 2) close your eyes 3) step on the gas and trust the magic. Don't open your eyes while in the roundabout; it's too scary. You'll only see all the other drivers zipping by with their eyes squeezed shut. :wah:

:yh_rotfl I forgot it was called the Magic Roundabout!! All I could think of was 'Magic Mushrooms!'

Your approach certainly does seem the best tactic, my boyfriend of way back used the same approach! Pretty scary stuff!

No worries! Got it sorted! LOL!! But you're right about getting her out to the different places. Stratford would be GREAT! You could spend a YEAR in London and not see it all. Being as she only has two weeks, any suggestions would be welcomed. We have a reliable car, it's comfortable to travel in, so a little distance wouldnt be a problem.

Show her B-roads for sure. We don't have lay-bys. And get out into the country at night so she can compare your beautiful starlight with Canada's. I drove to a place near Swindon where there were no manmade lights in sight. The stars were magnificent!

Hmm yeah trying to see as much of London as possible in 2 weeks in near impossible. Well these would be but a few suggestions, (most of which you probably already have, so sorry about that!!)

Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Canary Wharf, Buckingham Palace, The changing of the guard, Covent Gardens, London eye, London dungeon, Westminster Abbey, Wimbledon (if u like Tennis of course,) Crown jewels, Tower of London, Tower bridge, St Paul's cathedral and Piccadilly Circus.

Obviously there are loads more, but they are the ones that come to mind!! :)

I think she will enjoy some of the smaller village type things as well.

Not to mention any of the museums! But I was also thinking of places like rochester and colchester. Ah hell! There is just too much to this place!

Now being from n. america myself, there are a few things that are on the MUST SEE list. Stonehenge, and Loch Ness are among them! LOL!! Hadrians wall, Offa's Dyke, Y'know, things that have been around since the beginning of time!

Ah of course, I have been to Stonehenge and is a fascinating place, and I highly recommend seeing it.

I haven't really be outside of London, so I couldn't comment on cities outside of the capital, but having a lot of London based members here I'm sure they will be able to offer more of an insight.

Only other advice I can think off, is always make a plan B. We have had so many big trips ruined because we planed an outside day, only for it to rain, and not to have a good back-up plan.
