I completely agree with you arnold, all my favorite muscians are not regarded as being "technically" the best, its like Ringo on the skins, he wasn't the greatest drummer in the world, but what he did perfectly fitted in with what the others were doing. I know lots of musicans and in particular there are many guitar players who are more interested in showing off their skills as opposed to actually entertaining an audience, or putting a song or piece of music across to people. That type of playing always leaves me cold. I do really ejoy music that matches technical excellence with feeling and taste such as Classical, jazz or Irish trad, rock sometimes disappears up its own arse with being overly technical, but that's probably never going to change.
