Post #44. Respect the colors. If the leftist, card-carrying communists can burn it, I've got a right to use it in my posts. I earned the right. If you can't handle the sentiments of "God bless America", be gone.

In a Martinsville Bulletin, Sunday (1/8/06), Page 6-A article with a Washington (AP) by-line titled "Lobbyist's excesses expose underside of D. C. dealmaking." Specific mention was made of:
"Foreign golf trips arranged for former House Majority Leader Tom Delay, R-Texas, and the chairman of the House Administration Committee, Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio. Job offers for top Bush adminsitration officials..."
No mention of the numerous Democrats with ties to Abramoff. What about Chris Dodd (D-CN) that was knee-deep in it with Bob Ney? That's too much to ask from the media, I suppose. Reporting on all the alleged corrupt officials, that is.

Joan Ryan is a syndicated columnist for the San Fransisco Chronicle. The excerpts quoted below were taken from one of her articles published in March 2001. I couldn't have said it better myself (hence the quotes) and I agree with the sentiments expressed by the quotes. John McCain for President (as an Independent)!!!!
"Legalized bribery still works"
by Joan Ryan"
"This is a system of legalized bribery and legalized extortion," Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. said to The San Fransico Chronicle's editorial board, repeating the message he has been delivering to mostly deaf ears for years now. "AT&T gave the same amount of money to each (political) party," McCain pointed out. "Is that schizophrenia, or do they want influence?'
"If the American public had any doubt about the connection between special interest contributions and our politicians' biased decisions, it surely was wiped away in the aftermath of former President Clinton's pardon decisions. Among those pardoned, including the now-infamous Marc Rich, more than a few had ponied up some serious contributions to Clinton's party or his wife's U.S. Senate campaign or to his presidential library."
"Clinton's pardons were only the latest and boldest examples of what goes on every day in Wahsington. "What Clinton did, that's bribery," McCain said, smiling. "We Republicans practice extortion." In fact, they all practice extortion, hitting up one corporation after another for donations."
"If we don't change the system, rich people will always have a megaphone and poor people a muzzle. If we don't change the system, politicians - or at least many of them - will always be making decisions in their donors' best interests instead of ours. The answer is not to throw up our hands and sigh, "That's politics." The truth is that we hold the ultimate power over our elected officials, yet too many of us do not use it. It's time to send a clear message to Washington that, OK, we might not have thick enough wallets to gain access to the halls of Capitoal Hill, but the voting booth is open to all."
Enough said. :-5

Maybe the corrupt politicians of the present are just following the traditions set by some of the corrupt politicians in the past:
James Wright was the only member of the House to resign the Speakership as a result of alleged ethics violations. There have only been three Speakers to resign during the history of the House.

Then-criminal Dan Rostenkowski, former chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, was "pardoned by President Clinton in 2000." An impeached president pardoning a criminal. That's classic.

Politics aside, the truth is that he was trying to buy influence from both parties. Irregardless of party affiliation, we the people must demand the corruption cease and desist. We owe that to our children. We should leave it better than when we received it.

A May 4, 2005 National Public Radio All Things Condidered report by Robert Siegel states "two Democratic congressmen, James Clyburn and Bennie Thompson" are tied to the Abramoff 1990's trip to the Mariana Islands. Oddly, I don't remember hearing their names in any recent news reports regarding the Abramoff scandal. Hmmmmm.......... :-5

I heard an interview with him back when it first broke. When the reporter asked if he would give the money back to avoid the appearance of inpropriety. You could almost hear his blood pressure rise.
"I see no reason to give the money back," he says.
