Nomad, this is my area of career training. THe reason your wife thinks it will look stupid is because there is no "weight" anchoring the two outer peices (which look even heavier with just a flat tv in the middle). Can you find a coffee table or bench or lowboy chest the same color wood as the two outer peices to hang the TV over? That would anchor the two outer peices and not make it look like a tiny TV (because the TV will look tiny between those two outer shelves) stuck between two shelves that look misplaced. If you can fimd a chest with the same color wood but not the same handles/pulls, its easy to go to the hardware store and find something similiar and switch them out. Let me know if this helps!
