Hartlepool is known as Monkey Town because, when a monkey was washed overboard from a passing ship and managed to reach shore, they hanged it as a Napoleonic spy - thinking all Frenchmen were that hairy

Clancy wrote: What about the Uni ? Tell them about , St Andrews Uni , and some of the students
Inform them how the cross of St, Andrew has been hi jacked by weirdo dominatrix type from the colonies.....all that kinda stuff.
Just because your in Livi' now, doesn't excuse you. We need the tourist trade. Think of the small business people, for goodness sake :-2
What can you say about the uni? they let in any riff raff nowadays. Much better to go to a proper scottish university where they let in the real riff raff.
Weirdo dominatrix types do tell more and how come you know about them. Your life must have a whole exotic twist to it lacking in mine. The only dominatrix I know is the northern lass I married-sort of Norah batty without the wrinkled stockings.
Livi is heaps more interesting. It takes real inventiveness to turn shale bings in to tourist attractions-at one point they were going to build a ski slope on the seven sisters but eventually someone managed to persuade the council that you need snow for that. This is the same council that was going to cut down the trees on the M8 so people could see the industrial estates on the way past in the belief that people didn't know livi was there and would be inspired to build a factory if only they could see others already there. Luckily the widespread laughter dissuaded them. Scotland must be the only country where people take great delight in laughing at the stupidity of the people we elect. I suppose it's better than getting depressed about it. Look at the two we exported to run the country:yh_rotfl

I love Hereford. My all-time guitar hero Mick Ralphs of Mott the Hoople and Bad Company was born in Hereford.
And you're back in the Football League - that's something to shout about

One more thing about Batavia, NY. Just outside of Batavia is a rock formation known as Devil's Rock. Apparently a devil was chained to the rock (for obscure reasons) and in circling the rock over and over, he wore it into a peculiar mushroom shape. Check this link..there is a photo.

Oh, also, Leroy NY..near Batavia is the birthplace of J-ELLO!! There is even a JELLO museum there now.
