Mines pretty evident.

I am a 911 dispatcher, which actually emcompasses more than just 911. We are a large department but we don't split our people like most Comm centers do. Our city has a comm center but we decided not to join them. Long story. . .

But that's my name and my game! Anyone ever call 911? Why?

Mine's evident, too, if you know how many names I went through here, trying to find a "new" one. MINE were already TAKEN! (Humph.) But, my dog, Lulu, sitting underfoot as usual, provided a clue.

And, yes, 911 (should I say Mr. 9? or can we go to the informal right away? ,) I have called 911 and I'll be grateful to them to my dying day. So many times we've heard sirens--maybe we've even been irritated by them, or awakened and wished they'd shut up.

But, I'll tell you that, when they're coming to help YOU, it's the most welcome sound in the world. So, in the name of everyone you've helped over the years and probably forgotten by the end of your shift......

How long have you been telling people "where to go"?

About seven years. Right now I only do Fire/Ems but we are the PSAP for our area. I'm applying right now to hop over to the sheriff's office and work there part-time on my days off.

You only have one PSAP? Must be a small place or is your comm center split by fire and law emforcement?

By all means, go to the Sheriff's office, it never hurts to learn the legal stuff, too. And once you do that, you can go anywhere

We're fairly large but certainly not small. I guess I should have said we are the primary PSAP. Fire, police, and sheriff are all in one building but operate as separate agencies under the 911 umbrella. All initial 911 calls come through us, Fire Dept, first and if it is a law enforcement issue we transfer them to the proper agency. We get just under half a million calls a year. Each agency works their shifts differently. We work four 12's and then off 4. On our 4, we do 2 12-hr day shifts then 2 12-hr night shifts. It works out well.

I'm a fan of all things cheesy, have you seen the film Freejack with Mick Jagger? (and Emilio Estevez) If not may I recommend it as one of my favourite all time cheesiest films it has ever been my cheesy cheesy pleasure to come across

I believe the monkey hanging thing is correct, they mistook it for a spy ....although i dont know the proper tale, maybe someone could elaborate on it?
