My sister lives in a town called "Kooskie" according to the locals,
yet it's spelled "Kooskia". I don't know if somebody said it wrong
once and ever after the rest just copied it or what.
Then there's always my fave to get people to try and say:
OAXACA.
Prounounced: wha-HAWK-uh.

Always nice to have a dictionary of their primary language-makes it kind of fun when you get new students! Unfair advantage for me is, if I have Spanish speaking students I can tell them something in Spanish, and make the other students wonder all day long how I told them to get back on task with their schoolwork!

Get a picture dictionary, one without words. Then you can use it for all languages. Jot down the words for the items they need in school, and you will pick up a zillion other useful words along the way.
