I know exactly what my name would have been if I had been born a girl.
Alison
My Mother was so sure that it was going to be a girl that she settled that right at the beginning.
However I was a boy and she decided to name me after her father who had died about thirty years before leaving her mother to bring up eight children (out of a total of twelve born) circa 1900.
Her mother vehemently turned on her and said, "You never name a child after a dead person. Name him after someone who is alive and will appreciate the honour."
So I was named after my uncle, the youngest brother my mother had.
Two or three weeks later his wife gave birth to a girl.
She had never know that there was Alison in my grandmother's name so she named her daughter Alison.
Remarkably we grew up as almost identical twins with fiery red hair and faces covered with freckles and many passersby remarked on "That lovely pair of twins."
Isn't life remarkable in all its idiosyncrasies.
God bless all.
