BCup, thanks so much for the link -- that was interesting.

Koan, no I have not. I thought I would start with the 'traditional' western approach and see what kind of success I would have. The bumps are just around my mouth, but without any makeup it looks inflamed. I've got a follow-up appointment one month after my initial one. I'll keep you guys posted if you're interested (and even if you are not ;) )

Interesting story: Two weeks ago, I was out to dinner with the girls. Sitting next to us (with a few drinks in her), there was a woman who was the Director of Education for Clarins. For those of you who don't know, they are a high-end make-up and skin care company, kind of like Estee Lauder. Elizabeth Arden, Clinique, etc.

She told us that IT IS A COMPLETE WASTE to buy expensive make-up and skin care. She said to use the most gentle of cleansers, like Cetaphil or Dove soap and a moisturizer afterwards. She said that Revlon (which you can buy in the drugstore) has lipstick that is every bit as good as Clarins and much less expensive. She highly recommended saving money on expensive skin care and makeup, and, if you really want a change, spending it on Botox or Restylane.

She said that anything topically applied to the skin, unless it is a medicine, could never have the impact of an injectable product.

What do you women think of this? :-6

I can tell you whole heartedly that from my experience of working in the industrial chemical and pharmaceutical industry that high end cosmetics and anti-ageing products are absolutely the biggest load of very expensive codwallop ever, its a brilliant idea if you are making it for 5 pounds and selling it for 370 pounds a bottle, but its not so good if you are paying for it! It is sheer marketing, nothing more. You are as well off with cosmetics from boots chemists, and as for anti-ageing, just eat well, and exercise, thats all there is too it, oh and drink lots of water as well.

Oh and detergents and "special formula" "miracle breakthrough" washing products, they are all more or less the same, again its all marketing, go to sainsburys or aldi, buy they store brands, and dont waste your money.

I studied the composition of beauty products as a professional matter some time ago. I readily recommend the book "Beauty To Die For" for anyone who uses cosmetics and has health problems.

Many of the lotions and creams draw moisture out of the skin to the surface creating the illusion of softness and silkiness whilst robbing the skin of nutrients and creating a dependency on the product. Aside from that, some of the every day products we use contain known mutagens. They can alter DNA. The majority of chemicals are just toxic. "just"

Cher

Its hormones - keep your soaps, creams, moisturizer simple.

Dove soap - Noxzema, back to basics for menopausal women.

Trust me - I'm there

Pasty has a good point Cher in most cases it is Hormones. Just soap and water is the best cleaner of all, the rest can dry out your skin, irratate it and cause you more problems.

I agree start with the conventinal western medicine approace and give it a chance.

Your beautiful Cher so don't worry about a few bump they will be gone soon.

;)

Consumer Reports (a well-respected, independent consumer-focused organization here) did a study on facial creams not long ago and their results were interesting. OLAY products (mid-priced and widely available) were best rated for improvement of moisture and appearance of facial skin. Check it out.
