If you'll back up in the thread a bit, A'P...you'll see I merely made a few suggestions to modify that crown and make it much more "YOU." It's a good look--you could make it work!

"Queen tries King's chow"....that sort of thing. :wah:

I think he looked quite dashing in a way, and then AP had the same look going, it seems like a new trend has been started. They don't give you a crown in Burger King here, damn cheapskates.

Speaking of crowns....in "Notes on a Scandal" (set in England) I saw two scenes of Christmas dinner and everyone was wearing paper crowns. Is that a usual custom?

Oh god yeah, even the real Queen in Britain has to do that, and she has a proper crown. Are you saying that Americans don't wear paper hats at Christmas like we do here? Oh my, my illusions are falling apart at the seems here, say it aint so Lu! :wah:

Last time I ate in a burger king I was sick for about 3 hours after. Of course I will go back there some day, we always go back, why is that?

Nar, really there ain't no goin back, Galbers... one can only go forward. :sneaky:

(And yep.. thanks for the info, everyone, I've now got the picture.. pun intended.. grin.. guessed wrong too... in future I shall either not post in new threads.. or not without doing detailed research first .. whichever comes first - bit surprised.. but still, count me out)

On crowns generally - we do that at Christmas. They are in the Christmas bonbons - do you have those in the States? Two of you pull and it pops and out comes some unlikely plastic animal, an incomprehensible joke translated from the chinese, and a silly paper hat which breaks the moment you put it on. But, somehow it's all part of Christmas - and after a glass of champers you feel regal anyway. Perhaps this prepares us colonials for the Queen's Message (which nobody here listens to but we know she's gonna do it anyway).

Yes, yes indeed, I have managed to not go into Mucky D's, Burger Kings, or KFC for years at this stage, but it will probably happen again, I dunno, I think they must put cocaine into the sauce or something, I mean I don't even really like burgers or things like that.

Yes, the good old Christmas lunch, I think we all do the same thing. My family ritual was that at crimbo dinner, my mom (who is a right fenian) would put on her paper crown, have a glass of white wine, and on purpose put on the BBC and the queens speech, get all indignant about the queen and start shouting "give us back the 6 counties you b****!", myself and my sister would be mortified at this behaviour of course and look at each other and shake our heads sadly, as my mother launched once more into her annual tirade against Mrs Windsor. Ah yes, christmas. Families, what can you do? :wah:

++++++++++ I'm sorry, Darlings...it ain't so! No "bonbons" or jokes about the Queen....(of course, depending on the amount of spirits imbibed, there MIGHT be cussing about the President.....)

Do you make the crowns? Buy them at a crown shoppe? ;)

I'm a big fan of Planxty too!!! The Chieftains have graced these antipodean shores with their august musical presence, several times, and I've been there !!!!!!!

And Lulu's in heaven..... heeeee heeeee

The Queen has toned down her speech to her colonial subjects, I'm told, and even learnt how to pronounce Australia... She used to call it Horse-trailer-ya, which I suppose - coming from her - is understandable. Could've been worse.. Corgi-trail-ya. Wonder what Big Ears will call his loyal antipodean fans... Tampon-trail-ya...

oh, he hasn't any fans....

:D

Yes, I missed their comeback gigs, I was totally sickened, I have been in Christy Moores brother's house at a party in Kildare near Naas, Luka Bloom, which is glory by association, he's a nice fella. I am a big planxty fan, I''ve never seen the chieftans, but they are the motherlode alright, serious, serious players. I did do some recording in Liam Clancey's house in Ring, Co Waterford, and him and the rest of the Clancy's were pretty big time fellas in their day, he is an interesting man, and nice too, lovely daughters. :sneaky:

As for her madgesty, well, I don't knock the Queen, shes alright, I ain't a hater, but I wouldn't want em back here, oh no, no, no. That new girl that William is dating is pretty, shame she is going to be hunted down like a dog now by the press, but thats the price of royalty I guess.

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW...

I have ALL the Chieftains early stuff. Traditional Irish music played by real musicians. As you say, motherlode. And Liam Clancy.. wow... gosh, Galbers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a couple of old recordings of Bothy Band too, and loads of other traditional stuff, including some piping that would blow you away.

Little five year old Dieter, who is staying with me at the moment, found a couple of tin whistles here yesterday, and is smitten. Must be in the blood. Grin.

(I once played the whole Chieftains version of the Lament of Limerick on a tin whistle, complete with sound effect of bones and screachings... .. possibly with a couple of gin and tonics under me belt at the time..)

Well, thats more tin whistle than I can do, I am not great on it, I must admit, I'm a backing player not a melody player in trad, and the singing of course. :)

Yeah, he is a pretty cool guy, and a good artist. He is a bit intense though sometimes. Though I've only met him once or twice so I don't really know him very well, generally a decent fella I would say.
