Yes, words are like Abbey said, just words, but we give them meaning and intent, and thats what its all about. In this case on the television, the Jade girl seems not to have made one offhand remark, but has been constantly bullying and deingrating this other Indian girl. I don't think its actually because she is an Indian, its because she is beautiful, refined, and elegant, and Jade feels threatened because she is not any of those things herself, so she uses this girls "otherness" to insult her, because its the easiest line of attack. It seems more about class than anything else, or Jades lack of it, which I suppose is as quintessentially British as it gets really. Its interesting how this things are so self-reinforcing.

She didn't actually, she was laughing at the Indian girl behind her back with her friend and making fun of the fact that she had a non-English sounding surname, but the principal is the same. She probably isn't self-aware enough to know why thats not a very noble thing to be doing, but thats TV for you, shes being unpleasant and we are all watching her and talking about it, why not, its a change from the football.

I don't want to upset anyone, but these kinds of show really wind me up.

They put a bunch of 'misfits' in an unrealistic situation and wait for the fireworks to start......big surprises ?....no way.....just human nature rearing it's ugly head in some cases.

Now it's all political...:-5

Jade's not stupid, just poorly educated with no class. It's not hard to see that the Indian girl is way outshines her in beauty, intelligence and class, however I think this has done untold damage to Jades image....people may forgive poor education, but bare faced nastiness and bullying...NO

The other women (past it celebs) are just as guilty in my mind.

Channel 4 are laughing all the way to the bank....and so is BT with all the phone calls of complaint and the voting tonight.

Okay I am sorry but I am going to mention Big Brother.

You are right, its all about class, I don't think that girl is a racist either, she just isn't copped on enough to realize that what she is saying is derogatory in a racial way, she is just using it because she thinks its funny. The British Chancellor has asked people to vote for Britain, in tonights eviction, in one way I wan't to laugh because its so ridiculous, but in another I want to cry because if this is what is considered important nowadays, it doesn't say a lot about any of us really. Channel 4 have said they are going to have no public eviction, and the money from tonight will go to charity (thats big of them). I do think this girl has been very unpleasant, but I hope that she doesn't get hounded completely, she is only an ordinary person and she's not hitler or anything, its all a bit hysterical at the moment. Hopefully this will make TV companies a bit more thoughtful about what they are doing in terms of content because something like this was bound to happen eventually, given the way TV has become so vulgarized lately.

"What I find facinating is how our media have created this monster, shamelessly promoting an individual whose only claim to fame was being deeply unpopular in a previous series of Big Brother and being spectacularly thick.

She has been surrounded by very clever individuals who have cultivated the image of a harmless but dim 'woman of the people' It speaks volumes for the pathetic culture of 'celebrity' that is promoted in this country.

So finally, stripped of her management and PR minders Jade Goody once again opens her mouth and exposes herself once again as a deeply unpleasant person.

No doubt we can expect her PR minders to go into overdrive when she finally leaves the house when she will be carefully coached in what to say and how to say it to save her 'career'

Unfortunately Channel 4 will be ****-a-hoop over the issue as ratings for the dreadful rubbish have soared.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear as Ms Goody amply demonstrates.

May I suggest to Channel 4 that they include a couple of psychopaths in the next series, viewing figures (which is all important) will go through the roof.

Well I would say they are probably equally offensive really, and seeing how this thing had developed, everyone in there is going to be disected about their views really. Its the way the thing is going everyone is going to be talking about how offended they are, by everything. I just hope they don't really crucify this girl Jade, she's an eegit, but you know, they gave her the platform for this so its not all her fault, and she's not that bad, just a bit of a bully and not very clever.

Well, its still not a nice thing to say to someone, is it? Saying that if they were somewhere else they would be seen as White Trash, Its like saying to a black person, "you know if this was a Klu Klux Clan house you'd probably get shot or something", isn't it? Not very nice subtext really.

No I agree..I equally find people calling chav's offensive.

I was just pointing out that he didn't say "Jackiey is white trash.":)

He was talking about TV shows like the Jerry Springer show and Rikki Lake and she reminded him of the people off of those shows.

When Jade was in the diary room, crying, all I could see was a frightened, lonely little girl. And I felt ashamed for having been so critical of her. But then I got to thinking that perhaps we are all frightened and lonely little children, trying so hard to be "adult" and "mature," and that few of us have really got it right.
