cluckity cluck cluck cluck!!!:yh_chickn

Okay, when I first saw Lon's original post all I could think of "those darn New Yorkers"...:wah:

I can see where other countries would find us loud, and a lot of people in my town alone are not only loud, but they are obnoxious (Sweet tooth is one of the many exceptions, mind YOU!!:) )

I would like to think that I can be like Not Today someday, maybe Not Today, but someday....

*acting like a Super hero from America*

Thanks!

I haven't met any nice Americans lately but I have worked with a few (in America too!!)

Good deal! There's hope yet! :)

Our Academics didn't feel that we were important enough to learn about ourselves. shocking really. But like I said today it's very different

I find that pathetic. A country should learn about itself first. Glad it's different for you today. Is this perhaps the reason for the Aussie disdain toward Americans I occasionally see?

And that right there is the true quintessential American sentiment.

Americans are not any louder than any other group of people; some of us are loud and obnoxious, some aren't. See, that is how things work, people are different. Generalizations are a weak form of commentary.

We dont' trade with Britain anymore after the big sugar scandal of the 1900's, almost the equivalent of your Boston tea party. Aboriginals don't have to hold a passport to walk the streets or be out after dark. should I go on about what terrible things australia has done to it's own people ? We all have lumps and bumps ! we're still waiting for our Prime minister to say "Sorry " on behalf of all Australians. If any of you did your homework you'd know a heck of a lot of crap stuff about us.

It ain't in Kansas, that is for sure. You are surrounding yourself with the wrong countrymen. I bet you every single person I know can find Austrailia on the globe, and would get the Kansas reference.

i think people from different lands just have different ways ,in England and Ireland we drink much more fight much more we laugh much more thats our way we do as our fore fathers did ,the Italians wave their hands about eat sketti and talk fast and are quite excitable thats what they do ,now the french they shrug shoulders back stab every one put their tanks into reverse gear plant trees down the roads round Paris so those jolly nice Germans can walk in the shade oh and of course they stink to high heaven of garlic thats what they do

now the yanks so they talk a bit loud soooo and they don't know much about the rest of the world aaaaand

so what on the whole i think they are a great race of people well the ones i met in my two years in the states

but don't get me started on those loud mouth tourist :wah:

probably coz they bring tanks and the gestapo with them :wah: :wah:

actually after years and years of being brainwashed that they are the enemy i went to germany and guess what they are lovely ,i always make a point of being nice to german tourists as they were so nice to me when i was a visitor

the lingo just sounds so agressive though .... achtung snell snell ... and they do tend to shout it from about 6 inches away .... ever noticed the always stand so close to you when they talk .... but i still love them great people

Yes, so rude too!

I was seeing a guy a few years ago who was here working for a few months, Kai. He thought it strange that we had to go to a bar to get a drink and weren't served at the table, just in a regular pub. He also thought it was weird that we say please and thank you as he said they don't in Germany. Such a harsh sounding language too but he had his tongue pierced and was the best kisser ever so he was forgiven, until I found out he had a girlfriend back home.

I've always felt that every American who said "Have a nice day" to me was sincere and meant it. I think Brits are generally cynical which is where the doubt comes in. Oh, and by the way......Have a nice day.:-6

We say, 'see ya later' but most of the time won't be. Weird how we have these sayings. It's just another way of saying goodbye or see you soon.

I all really don't understand what all the fuss is about. It is all about what and how we were brought up. Americans say 'Have a nice day', its a friendly thing ...... right!! Would we prefer... 'Drop dead!' or 'Hope your day sucks!'

A very addled (due to a concussion caused by an improperly wall mounted moose head trophy) Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) encountering a table of German speaking tourists at his inn :

I love that one,

here is some script from that scene, I can't post the link:-5 :-5

Don't mention the war

Basil, head bandage making him look crazier than ever, on hearing the arrivals speaking German, says “Oh German! I thought there was something wrong with you.

Classic Scene¦

Basil then proceeds to mention the war at every opportunity, upsetting the German guests more and more as he rapidly descends into a fit of xenophobic ranting about everything and everyone that most Germans would rather forget.

When the fed up German asks Basil to stop going on about the war, Basil kindly reminds him that they started it. “We did not start it, protests the German. “Yes you did, you invaded Poland, replies Basil!
