Why do you think you'd want to do a TV show just because of your body?? Just asking. No need to answer if you feel offended. I'm curious to know why women with certain physical properties (youth included) would find being valued for this above other qualities they might possess is motivating for them.

Again, not trying to be hostile to your post. It was just the most recent one I could find to spark my question. :)

While breasts are distracting stating men think breasts are the sum total of women says volumes about your attitude towards men. It doesnt seem healthy.

Men in general arent the lowest common denominator you imply.

We know you have minds. We can tell because when you speak the Earth rumbles.

Nah, I don't think anyone's on any high horse, KB; many of us are reacting the way we were brought up to be. I don't think anyone said or implied men were garbage either. Excepting some women, many of us get angry at women who dress like sex on a plate because it fuels society's notion that that's how all women are supposed to look and most regular women aren't like that. Another reason is because many women have been taught since girlhood not to be slutty. Always be classy. Men like classy women. When we see a fellow woman dressed in what amounts to a crepe paper streamer, we naturally think "what a slut" and when the men find that same woman as sexy and desirable, it's like a slap in the face. Your post is a good one and is comforting to read and of course the pictures were great too. I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain. I think it's a gender thing.

This is really bizarre. At your football matches you encourage pubescent schoolgirls to display themselves half naked prancing around for the tittilation of the male audience yet you find the sight of a naked breast (janet jackson) shocking and raise a stooshie about it. There is a TV programme which seems to be an amercan import called pimp my ride yet if your daughter was going out with a pimp you would hopefully be horrified and call the police. But pimps it seems are the in thing now. You have children;'s beauty pageants that seem little better than a paedophiles charter

Yet you criticise a late night TV host as a whore because she wears a low cut dress. Do you think maybe you worry about the wrong things?

Well no, actually I don't think so. Cheerleaders may wear short dresses but they're not even close to being half naked and not all of us were really concerned when Janet flashed us either. It wasn't cool for what's supposed to be an all-ages event. I can't explain the pimp thing, it's yet another of our stupid terms and not one I use myself. And I agree completely with you about kid pageants. I see no problem with criticizing a slutty talk show host though. If she wears an outfit like that outside her house, she deserves the criticism as far as I see it.

If men were'nt turned on by dressed, half naked, fully naked women, we would have no reason to hunt down and kill food to bring home to our mates. We would just kill the food and eat it right on the spot. God or nature made men horned up at the sight of women so the species would perpetuate otherwise we would just hang out with our buddies drinking beer and farting. Be happy that we like to look at women especially naked women, thats how you women with your maternal instincts get babies. It's all nature. Now where did my copy of Playboy go..:-6

this is a man/woman discussion, we don't need to bring America into it.

and FYI 'pimp' is also used as a verb as is the case with that show. As far as I know dating actual pimps is uncommon unless you are employed by one. ;)

I don't find that men want their women to look like the hottest chick they could find on tv that night, I think women feel insecure when they look at the hottest chick and then kick up a fuss when their man sees it.

Making something taboo makes it more exciting. AFAIC if you want someone to appreciate your inner beauty you should make an effort to appreciate their outer beauty as well.

It is quite nonsensical to say 'that woman is a whore' because one can see her breasts and expect her (or anyone else) to recognise some inner magnificence in the person who said it.

I know it is

From websters on line dictionary.

Pimp

Noun

1. Someone who procures customers for whores (in England they call a pimp a ponce).

Verb

1. Arrange for sexual partners for others.

When did pimping become cool?

I was merely pointing out the cultural differences. Americans seem to find bad language shocking (Judging from the bleeped out bits on US programmes I occasionally see on cable) but find nothing wrong with encouraging overtly sexual behaviour amongst teenage girls objectifying their sex in a public display yet are mortified at the sight of a naked breast.

I mean this advert is quite innocuous isn't it?

Mind you some of your culture does travel in unexpected ways

and finally one for the republicans

it's not, I would guess that the term pimp (the verb) came from the fact that pimps (the people) were stereotypically known to be very flamboyant.

In the first years of the 21st century, however, a new meaning of the word has emerged in the form of a transitive verb which means "to decorate" or "to gussy." The instigator for this new definition stems from Pimp My Ride, an MTV television show. Although the new paid homage to hip-hop culture, it has now entered common, even mainstream commercial, use.[5]

as for the rest of it, you're just making assumptions and generalizations.

It's definitely a variation from the original meaning. There is some reason to question why it would be chosen for updating a criminal activity to meaning a desirable quality but the current usage is not intended to imply quite the same thing.

To be accurate to the root of the term, the car would have to be a rental.

I have always laughed at that commercial with the car radio. That cracks me up. :)

I don't see anything sexually objectifying about cheerleaders. I just don't get the correlation. I have always thought British humor to be overtly sexual and tacky, if I judge by the shows they send over here, so I don't think America has any kind of monopoly on that.

America doesn't bleep out the cuss words, it's the broadcasters who do that. We don't get a choice.

We're not talking about seeing a naked breast, we're talking about how a woman who looks like a two dollar whore objectifies women as a whole. That's the issue. She looks cheap and easy, not at all classy. Real women don't dress like this nor should they be compared to a woman who does.

As far as pimping being cool, it's not except maybe in hip hop culture which I believe is where it came from.

I don't think most fathers would...but it seems to me if you'd want your teenaged daughter to be respected and not dress revealingly because you know how men are, that you'd see where I'm going with this....I think that host could put on some clothes and still have men looking at her, so why she's got herself on display is anyone's guess. Well yes I never claimed to be doing anything else. I'm also to use an idiomatic phrase common in the UK, which sound rude but isn't, pulling your plonkers. I know pimp my ride does come from hip hop culture and words change in meaning through the years but given what the word actually means and what as pimp still is I find it odd that anyone would want to be like one.

Why on earth do you let them treat you like kids? We have a similar prurient attitude amongst some of our broadcasters and there are always those who complain about bad words on the telly but most object to being patronised. It's not as though you don't know it's a swearword.
