Im sorry you felt compelled to write that your a tad annoyed at some of the threads that get posted I really am as Im the type that likes to see everyone happy. The reason I joined here was for the vast forums and huge array of members from around the world Lon.

I personally havent started one but I love to answer them, Im a people person, nosy, if I sit in a restaurant I have to be facing the whole room so I can people watch, so those threads I love, getting to know peeps habits etc..It facinates me. Im also one of those very sad individuals that loves reality tv. Now I know its a pile of crap but Its my pile of crap, my hubby wont sit in the same room as me when they are on. I have quite a few I follow religiously.

I wish sometimes I was interested a bit more in the more serious things in life and I have tried to like history, geography, philosophy, art to name a few but It dont sink in cos Im not interested.

Come on peeps lets cut each other a bit of slack, its pretty obvious that if its posted in general or just for the fun of it its going to be light hearted.

I love it here and would hate to start pausing before I hit submit on a subject incase someone reacts negatively to it just because it aint their bag.

So you are here after all, Lon. I thought this was another "hit and run" thread...someone starts an off-putting topic and just leaves it. For good.

We do have a "just for fun" category in the forum. "Fluff" would just naturally fall into that category, don't you think?

This is a Garden filled with all kind of flowers. We are all beautiful.....from the orchids to the sunflowers. I am proud to be a sunflower.

PS. Although, to Jimbo, I am the wallflower.:wah:

I hate to throw a serious note into this amusing thread... however...

I remember back to when I first joined. I was very hesitant to jump into the serious threads or any threads for that matter. Those fluff threads, don't require an answer that may be taken the wrong way or offend a third of a forum you are new to. They are icebreakers, IMO. They also seem to work well as a tension breaker from time to time, here in the garden. They don't require a biased opinion or emotionally charged response. Folks who may have just been arguing on another thread can find some fun common ground.

Newbies post something into one of these threads and they are suddenly surrounded with folks willing to talk to them. It brings comfort and a sense of belonging. It can give confidence to someone who has never been on a forum before.

So, to answer the question(as I understood it), there is a valid reason for their use, IMO. Personally, I don't hit those threads too often anymore. But I was grateful for them when I arrived. So I just move on to something I may care for now and respect the fact that someone is bothering to start any kind of conversation for everyone else here.:-6

I can be serious when i need to be, but i would just rather be a big kid on here most of the time :D

I agree, and 9 times outa 10, they will get out of control and when it gets like that, you only see the opinionated side of a person...not who they really are.

So if we stuck to serious threads all the time, i don't think we would like each other very much :D

I can certainly understand how you feel. After all, serious threads can cause some people to actually think, and that can cause a number of problems like migraine headaches, acid reflux, halatosis, basal cell cancers and it could even (heaven forbid) raise someone's IQ Level. Hell, they might even decide to vote in elections.

What a load of crap that is.

So what? A forum is a place where you can express yourself.

Why read or post in a thread if you aren't interested in the theme of it?

I thought we would get some constructive criticism from you, Lon, not a brusque statement,"What a load of crap..." You are entitled to your opinion, of course. But I believe you are more articulate than that.

That's true to a point, but I remember quite awhile ago, someone started a Johnny Depp appreciation thread and a few of us ladies started posting photos from some of his movies and agreeing he's a handsome guy. Someone felt the need to pop into a fun thread and say he was untalented and not that attractive.

Why? What was the point? And let me tell you, it was a real thread killer.

Similar things have happened when folk have begun reality show threads for those who enjoy watching the shows. There are always a few people who have to post that they think these shows are rubbish. That's fine, it's their opinion, but it doesn't help the thread at all and I wonder why they feel the need to post on it.

The wise man knows it is the little things that make the big things.

As for what someone last held in their hand... that's very important to me. That would make or break whether I shake it or not.

But, to your credit Lon, I hear where you're coming from. Part of the reason why I go through fits of coming here and then not for a few months is because the conversation gets a little dull and redundant. No offense to any FG'er. Just my point of view... and I tend to get distracted easily.
