KE, I downloaded and installed skype just now and I didn't have to fill anything out...just clicked that I agreed with their terms and my skype opened right up. If you open the file again, what happens?

I think so but I'm not positive. I would assume so though. I don't know where it went wrong. I hope somebody else here might know what is going wrong. Anyone?? I know that you can talk on Yahoo Messenger with voice as I have that too but I don't know about MSN. I'll go check MSN for that and maybe we could set that up in the meantime....

I heard you both so you got at least part of the way, I don't think your microphone is stopping you. If people download your zip file and extract it and then play it with media player with their volume controls set to high they ought to get it too.

Thank you sooooo much for all your help. We'll figure it out. Think I'm going to log off now. I'm going to my favorite pub, Klees, to listen to some Irish music.

See you tomorrow.

Spot, would you have any advice for Kathy Ellen? She's downloaded Skype but when she tried to sign on, it tells her to contact her network administrator. Would that be the cable company she has her computer through? Should she uninstall and try again? Or something else?

She might need to read the skype page on allowing her connection to go through her firewall. The page is at http://www.skype.com/help/guides/firewalls/

Thanks so much for trying to help me everyone, especially Red and Spot. Think I'll try to sort it out next weekend when I have more time. I think Spot is right....my Norton firewall is blocking skype. Tried to follow directions to enable skype, but couldn't find the internet worm protection to allow other firewalls. All it stated in web browser was: personal firewall, intrusive prevention, and spyware and phishing protection....don't know if phishing is the one to turn off.

Will try again next weekend. T

Thanks all:-4

Thanks all:-4It's not to do with internet worm protection or phishing, it's a matter of granting a specified permission to skype allowing its two-way protocol to tell you there's a call coming in and to allow the conversation to go back and forth. As another point, it's very undesirable to run multiple firewalls (or multiple virus checkers, come to that) on the same computer.

Here's what the skype help pages say about configuring your firewall:To update your firewall setting you should try the following steps:

1. Exit the Skype program.

2. Go to the Start menu --> Programs, and select your firewall program.

3. Go to Exceptions list and if Skype is listed there please delete it.

4. Start the Skype program, you will be prompted to allow or not allow Skype to connect to the internet, select "Yes" or "Allow".If that doesn't get you going then we need to know more about what hardware you have. Are you using wireless? Do you use Windows XP or Vista? Is there a router in your house?

Thanks:-6

I cannot pull up anything in Norton that show how I can enable Skype. That makes sense, Norton known nothing at all about Skype or about any other application. It just sits there and enforces the permissions you give it. The first time it sees skype it would ask whether to allow it. If you got past that without saying yes then the earlier instructions tell you how to make it re-ask, that's all.
