i have 2 friends who came from very large families. Both had difficult lives. But one does have learning disabilities. He was forgotten among the many. What i mean. He never did learn to read. Ended up in prison. Now is struggling to support his family. With his lack of education.Plus his others roadblocks. Yes they are a close net family. But the extra care that was needed. Was not noticed or was lost.:(

It can work out better with the older children giving the younger ones a lot of time and attention.

I have a sister who has eight kids --- she just loves them.

Their dad leaves the house at 06 am and gets in from work at 9 pm

My sister works semi full-time as well so the kids have a good upbringing.

The eldest is 16 yrs old, youngest a year.

They all have their chores and set times of the day when the older kids are dealing with the babie's.

One little boy aged 6 has special needs and the baby is in and out of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Their house is run with military precision and all the kids know their responsibility's and who's picking who up from nursery etc.

It's absolutely brilliant the way they are as a family and i'm real proud of her.

Baby number nine is due Christmas day.

As you should be proud of your sis. If people can manage to do with a big fam. then all the more power to them. I only have 4 and it's chaos in the am (getting ready for school, etc.), but they have their chores to do also and no going out on school nights after 4pm. Homework is #1 priority after school and no doing it at night. And off to bed at 8pm for the youngest. The other 2 can stay up till 9pm.

That's nice.

There's nothing wrong with having large family's i think when it's right. When you've got mum and dad. Dad's works hard etc

Sadly in this country we have made it all too easy for young teenage kids to get pregnant which entitles them to council accomodation and untold benifits.

The thing i love about the way my sister has done things is that i know that when her kids go on to be mums and dads, they will be the best. They already show enormous patience and understanding of their siblings needs at a young age themselves.

But your right, the priorities have to be there, homework done tec.

We had the eldest lad stay with us recently, he was 15 yrs old then and he was constantly on the phone to the little one's checking up while he was away.

But 18 kids??? My god. That's a hell of a big dining Table. :)

I see it here, with my girlfriends daughter, she has 4 kids, the oldest one does so much for her mom, she has 4 kids, not married.......won't go there......but she

does miss out on so much minding her siblings constantly, doing dishes and tons of housework!

doesn't help when the mother had a broken collar bone from an accident, then tripped down her stairs and had a broken arm!
