Wish you the best but I think we can count on you to pipe in now and again.....
On the lighter side a few things that might help you run that ranch:
There’s this midget with a speech impediment who wants to start a horse ranch. So, he goes to a ranch and talks to a rancher and says,
"Can I tee yur hortes."
The guy says, "Sure, I’ll let you see my horses."
They go out to the paddock and the midget asks to look more closely at one of the fillies.
The midget says, "Will ya waise me up sa I kan tee hur eyez."
And the rancher says, "Sure, I’ll let you see her eyes."
The midget says, "Te gut purdy eyez. Will ya waise me up sa I kun tee hur teef."
The rancher says sure, and does so. "Ahhh tee gut purdy teef."
Then the midget says, "Kun I tee hur twot?"
The rancher says, "What? "Kun I tee hur twot?"
So he stuck the midget’s head up the horse’s twat. "No! Kun I tee hur twot?"
So the rancher does it again. Then the midget says, "Wet me wefwase mytelf: kun I tee hur gallop?"
A cowboy was passing by a ranch and decided to take a closer look at the property. He saw the rancher sitting out by the gate and struck up a conversation about the land, weather, etc. Then the cowboy asked the rancher," Is that your dog?"
The rancher said "Yup"
"Mind if I talk to him?" asked the cowboy.
"Durn fool, don’t you know dogs can’t talk!"
The cowboy replied, "So what’s the harm? May I?"
The rancer shrugged, "Go right ahead."
The cowboy ambled up to the dog and said,"Howdy!" The dog
replied, "Hello."
The rancher’s eyes popped wide open. The cowboy continued, "Is this your master?"
"Yep, he sure is," said the dog
"Does he treat you all right?"
"Sure does. He feeds me, he lets me sleep inside and every day he takes me to the lake to play."
The rancher was dumbfounded.
The cowboy said to the rancher, "Is that your horse over
there?"
"Yes."
"Do you mind if I talk to him?"
The rancher replied, "Now, I know the dog spoke to you, but I know for a fact that horses
can’t talk."
"Well, then what would it hurt?"
"Go right ahead."The cowboy said to the horse, "Hello." The horse
replied,"Hello."
The rancher stood there with his jaw on the ground. The cowboy asked,"Is that your
owner?"
"Yup, sure is."
"He treat you okay?"
"Sure," replied the horse, tossing his mane, "he rides me every day, brushes me down at the end of the day, feeds me good and he keeps me
in the barn out of the bad weather."
The cowboy looked satisfied and turned to the rancher,"Are those your sheep over
there?"
The rancher got a strained look on his face and stammered, "Them sheep out there, they ’re nothing but a
bunch of liars!"

I remember hearing of a bloke who seceded from Australia, holed himself up on his ranch which he declared the Principality of Hutt, or something, and he became Prince Leonard of Hutt River Province, minted money, made his own stamps, elevated his kids to become lords and ladies and had a grand old time.

Anyway, take care Jester - enjoy life and your family - who presumably support you in your opting out - and plant lots of vegies and potatoes. Heck we may all be planting potatoes etc if the financial crisis gets any worse. And right now, I think I'd like to opt out of a lot of stuff too. My father's family were farmers. I can still milk a cow, I think, and dig the soil.

I have been working for money since I was 9 years old. As of today 1JAN09 It will be my goal to break even or loose money (owe zero taxes) for the remaining years of my life.
I have no idea how I'm gonna do this but I will figure this out as I go.
For now- I have severed all business ties, all but dissolved two full time businesses, ended all government contracts, and remain a total and free citizen under the constituion of the United States Of America.
I'm going to try to make ends meet on my ranch, doing work that will cover my expenses of living by barter, and not use my retirement money.
I still have passive income coming in, so I have arranged money to be delivered to non profit orgs such as churches, church ministries, missionary societies.
Anybody who's read any of my threads pretty much know what brought this on, the election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the US. I do not believe he is eligiable to be POTUS and have decided not to serve the US government in any capacity during his presidency. In short I won't contribute to the illegal and unconstitutional action which brought him into the whitehouse. I wont commit an illegal act to remove him either, so I am retiring from all government work, and doing my best not to contribute taxes to the cause of a socialist america.
I have no choice but to ride this out...
As the days past towards this day I kind of got used to the idea of having no obligations... then I have realized that I have plenty to do on the ranch and I have plenty of other things I can do for folks I know in my church and I can teach in the school, and do some things that I like to do. I'm greatfeul to God that he has seen fit to equip and bless me thus far in life so that I can be in this position.
If ya see me on here less- it means I went fishin. If ya see me on here more- it means I'm bored. I'm not gonna read the NEWS. I'm not gonna follow politics, war, or the impending doom my mind predicts. I'm just gonna wake up each monring, embrace the daylight in whatever capacity it sees fit to display itself, breath, rest, and wait to see what the day brings, then take the next day the way I took the previous day.
I don't know if I can do it to be honest, I've never been one to let grass grow under my feet- I feel like a cowboy in 1880 after barbed wire fenced in my open range... but I'll enjoy as much of the open space thats left and there seems to be plenty of it left.
In other words you decided to become a monk. Better stay off all those new roads and bridges the government is going to build.

I'm not an American so whether I approve or disapprove of your decision, Jester, is not really relevant. Maybe whether other Americans approve or disapprove isn't relevant either. You've made your political position very clear - and you will be aware already of those who agree with you and those who don't. I wish you, your wife and your children well. Be happy!!
