I don't pay attention to politics of any kind. *shrug* I've mentioned before that I don't really care to watch news programs either because in *my* opinion they are full of sensationalized crap and fluff. I can get a quick synopsis of what's going on around the country and world on my MSN homepage and that's enough information for me.

Lately, there has been threads such as 'Don't mention the war' or 'Stop the anti-Americanism' etc. I have to confess i added the thread 'Don't mention the 'don't mention the war thread' to join in with the silliness.

The threads posted by Jimbo, i believe were an honest attempt to clear the matter up. I added my post in sarcasm to jimbo's posts.

Firstly, the thing that surprises me, is that if any American believe's we are anti-America, then why post on the thread? If you are that offended, why add to the thread that provokes further response?

I don't know if i'm the only British one here, but i am getting a little fed up with the over-sensitivity that is then a reversed guilt trip only to make the British feel bad because we dare to critise the American policy or government, exactly the same as we critise our very own government.

If any American doubts this, you should start to have a look at British political threads and actually see what Panto-Andy, galbally, gmc, Chookie, My-self, Carolly etc etc say about our own government and way of life in Britain. For one, we constantly mock our own people but most threads on British politics end in a bitch-slapping as none of us agree on our own politics. We regually insult each other directly but we know that although our opposing political views may differ, we have the greatest of affection for each other. This is the part that Americans seem to miss. You think that if we have a joke at Bush's expense, it's a direct insult on you personally.

Some of you have stated that your worried about posting because of the anti-Americanism. Well, some of us are worried about expressing their honest views for fear of being accused of being anti-American.

I see posts from some who state they have had enough and will not be posting any-more only to see they have posted again a page later.

My husband is watching a documentary right now about the **** up America made in Somalia in 1993..... He must be anti-American.

I think when they say anti-american and we say we cant see these threads well me personally I think its when the debates start and the non americans start saying YOU did this, YOU elected him YOU need to do this that and the other. Now if people slated Gordon Brown id cheer along but slate me for him being in office if he had been elected of course:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: then id take it personally as its not ONE individuals problem but a nations and not everyone in that nation agrees with everything their government has done.

Also its like when they talk about war, I read non Americans telling Americans what they need to do about the war, and I read posts like, well when you remove your troops and do this that and the other... as if FG members can make those decisions:thinking:

Also lately it seems to me like we are having politics rammed down our throat on here, every thread turns out speaking about Obama, Brown or the War....Its bloody boring people...:D

Like Cyndi Lauper....FG justs wants to have fun:D

Because my large bald one..... We have the ability to say it as it is without getting offfended. Frankly, American foriegn policy has historically been a subject of critism world wide and not just from the British. Scotland was found to be the 2nd most obese nation in the world. Do you see gmc or chookie rising up and claiming their feelings are hurt?...... No. Ireland has historically been the butt of world wide mirth...... Do you see galbally, Mikie or pinkchick claiming their feelings are hurt when i call gallbladder a Leprechaun?..... No.

Why post in a thread that is supposed to be anti-American?

If political threads bore you silly, then why look at them?

If you just want to have fun and not actually care that Israel has murdered innocent Palistinian children, then post your own light-hearted threads for the people who don't care. I'm sure the one's who do care as to what is happening in The Middle East or Iraq or what Gordon Brown has done, will stick to those threads.

A forum this size has enough threads for everyone with every taste.

Have you seen me post in those threads? I dont, I stay well clear but I probably would post my opinion if I felt I could post it without being asked to back up my opinion and post links and generally made to feel like a second class citizen.

I do care ALOT about politics and what's going on in the world and that comment off you was below the belt, I have no idea why but you shouldn't assume what I care and dont care about, just because I don't bang on about stuff doesn't mean I dont care however I DONT use this forum for politics, I use it for fun. That is my prerogative, like any other member here, I can post were I like and as long as I stay on topic and i'm not insulting, I should be able to post what I like.

I rarely go into the political threads unless its with a mod hat on.

I do however protest at threads that weren't originally started about politics or war ending being just about that. :D

Maybe it's because we have so much going on in our country that it's all we can focus on. I know we can have access to other country info if we are so inclined, but with our economy, housing markets, bailouts, etc... it's really hard to be interested in other country news.

You're gonna slag the US if we comment or not- then Jimbo's gonna come right in and make a joke of it, then you two will go back and forth with a few others chiming in here and there to join the fun and its sheer goading and VERY tiresome- If I say nothing it just goes on and on, if I post on the thread it grows worse.

Ignoring it angers me and commenting makes it worse.

Every thread I come unto is anti american or it leans that way.

And every other thread about the threads that are anti american are a joke about you brits not being truly anti american but explaining your british humor or calling us Yanks over sensitive, heck you even got some of us Yanks calling ourselves that!

And I can say nothing either way- if I report the post it goes to the chiefest of anti-americans Sir Spot???

Even posting this will get my name mentioned on three other threads in 'Jest'.

I'd like to enjoy a decent discussion without defending my country at the core then work out from there. I cannot do that here.

And lest any of you think Im joking in any form or using sarcasm in any way I am not- I am serious.

You are not alone Jester.

I go to the bathroom for five minutes, come back and find some joker has posted a thread on 'Don't mention Gordon Brown' incase Oscar throws a tantrum.

Where i have the advantage over you, is that i am meeting the joker face to face in a week in London. Let's see him joke with three broken legs.

Do events in the U.S. affect the rest of the world?

In the past they have. Our economy drove the world economy. In the last few years I think it has been less so.

I for one watch News casts from Germany and the UK but I couldn't tell anyone who was who except for the Prime minister of England. Sorry. On the other hand I probably wouldn't get half the dignatraries of the U.S. either.

Jester, it's getting stupid. You've got Jumbo posting threads trying to convince everyone we are not Anti-American. You've got people treading on eggshells in fear of posting what they think of current events in the USA. We are seemingly cconstantly having to re-assure US members that we really do love them and it's only Dubya we loathe with a passion. yet you continue to take a swipe here and there at Spot.

Well, i don't give a **** any more. I am not going to spend the rest of my days trying to convince you that you are a respected and well liked member.

Thankyou.

Most British folk have little idea of who the deputy Prime Minister is also. That's because most British have the historically renowned 'head in sand' approach to life.

It's only when Germany are gathering in their masses about to invade, do they wake up and see what's really happening in the world. (OR we're playing Germany in the World cup).

I'll say it for the last time............. I have made many friends here from the US and Australia that i genuinely care for wnd would not deliberately hurt the feelings of.

I have travelled to the US and there are many aspects of America that i envy and love.

But i can not keep on pandering to what is becoming more and more like a spoilt five year old.

I don't post most of the threads on US current affairs. I comment on them.

The British have become increasingly nervous about posting any critisism of US policy for fear of it being seen as a personal attack on the character of the member.

It does not help having Jimbo posting threads such as 'No more anti-Americanism' as it's bound to stir members in becoming patriotic.

You asked why americans dont post on british threads, Im answering why I, as an american, don't post on british threads- because the moment we do it turns into a bash fest or you start to turn it into a some kind of AA joke- In fact some threads that have nothing to do with politics get a slam or to agaisnt america.

You indicated earlier that your tired of 'holding back' as a brit for fear of offending an american- I find it unbelievable, given the number of slams coming from you that you're holding back.

Oscar give me one good reason why I should put up with the way a few of you brits look down on america? What possible positive thing could I take from hearing how terrible america is at every thread I open?

I dont think you or anyone else should have to curb what you say, but I do think you should be very careful HOW you say it and what you make fun of in the process. I'm not a real sensitive guy, seriously Im not, if its so bad that I notice it- its BAD.

This is an unfriendly place to americans. Like it or not Oscar, thats the ugly truth and it's not just me, ya see like you I got the gonads to speak up. But it's not going to do any good. It's too late. It is what it is, the garden has always reflected its members and the majority of heavy thread starters and posters are anti-american whether they realize it or not.

Just look how many americans dont post or have left- or only poke thier head in to add to the threds that discuss whetherthe previous post was anti-american or not.

And thats really all I can say in the matter, and I'm not mad right now, just talking matter of factly.
