Its been 2 full weeks for me! Wooo hoo! :yh_clap. It's easy! (Although I could always manage going a full day with 1-3 cigs). My husband on the other hand was at a pack a day. We did it together...Awwww:-4. Its alot easier when you have support!

I am addicted to smoking. I am working myself up to stop, for all sorts of reasons, health and money being the main ones.

I have learned some important things about myself through smoking - mostly that I have an addictive personality and get "hooked" on things very easily. This self-awareness has kept me clear of more dangerous drugs...

Hey, Nomad, if you tell me when you are stopping I'll stop then too, if you want some company/competition with your cold turkey.

Heroin addicts say they don't want to quit either. Same with crack and meth.

I dont want to quit and you're out of line thinking you know every smoker in the world and what makes him/her tick and comparing all smokers to people who use illegal drugs. Sure, nicotene is addictive, but it's legal.

Congratulations to all those who HAVE wanted to and did quit :)

Sure, it would save money if smokers quit. We could also save money if everyone quit drinking alcohol...thats not needed either and is potentially alot more dangerous than smoking. Drive drunk, kill someone. Drive smoking...not too likely you'll do anything extremely stupid like drunk drivers.

Apparently not...in your OP you said "been there done that" which infers you were once a smoker. Now you're one of those preaching ex-smokers who thinks you're trying to save the world, even through bribery, if you wanna call $10 bribery.

Believe what you will...I've said my piece. You wont change my mind nor I yours. I'm through here :)

No, you can't be trusted unless it's to tell other people that you know more about people then they know themselves.

when I got tired of being drunk, I quit drinking every day .

I use to smoke pot when I decided to quit being stoned I quit.

I have never tried that other you insinuated all us addicts do ,

but I have never really wanted to quit cigarettes .

This isn't a "habit" for me, it's an addiction. I think equating nicotine addiction with heroin is nonsense because I wouldn't consider stealing from you or mugging you to acquire money to spend on cigarettes, but it's an addiction in definition. I still miss it, but won't go back. It's too expensive in money and in health, and since my wife and I quit together I would feel horrible if my weakness led her back to it as well.

I loath preachiness, but I would exhort anyone who has even a fleeting thought about cessation to find a way to stop.

Thank you for making that so clear anyone can understand it .
