Sadly some of my countrymen make me ashamed to be scottish and take things beyond a friendly trading of insults. My wife is english but moved to dundee as an eleven year old but was luckily big enough to physically flatten her tormentors. There was one family gathering where she finally lost her temper and laid in to my brother half way through a rant about the English leaving him speechless in shock as he's never quite seen things in that light before. His sons and wife were cheering my wife on as it was getting up their noses as well. He's a bit more careful now in what he says in her presence. -one of the sons is about to marry an english girl so he's had to learn to think before speaking. So yes I am well aware of the prejudice you refer to. It's not something we can be proud of.

Aberdonians are a breed apart. Roy Williamson was once assaulted there because some twit thought he sounded english. the irony is of course he was the one who write the flower of scotland and was one of the corries. Mind you having been picked on in london because I was scots and on one occasion because they thought I was irish I don't think you can claim such stupidity is uniquely scottish.

Throughout our history we have been let down consistently by those who supposedly lead us. but there is a vociferous minority who like to believe all our ills are due to the english without letting the facts get in the way of a good theory. We are both cosmopolitan in outlook and a nation of racist bigots.

Most scots know that-why do you think we are so ambivalent about complete independence. It's a great club to beat up labour with though. We got fed up with economic policies being imposed because of the situation in the south east of england reagardless of the effect in the rest of the country. Something we share with the north of england-if you remember we had a governor of the bank of england that said unemployment in the north was a price worth paying if it brought down inflation. The last straw was maggie thatcher and the poll tax. She more than anyone is responsible for the support for devolution.

As to what will happen next i don't know. The more Gordie boy tells us we can't manage on our own the more support the SNP gain. Gordie boy and the labour party is too stupid to realise that though.
