If we, ourselves, lived in say 60,000 BC and our survival depended heavily on each of our peers and could not afford to allow the murder of another individual, at the same time had no ability to detain the being divinely responsible for a future murder, would killing that being be acceptable?
I'd personally not only kill the murderer but I wouldn't guarantee I wouldn't eat the creep...
