The money issue is a crock. We are already paying twice as much on healthcare as other industrialized countries. The problem is that corporations are taking the money and not translating that into services.

Not sure we are actually disagreeing. What you have in the states is corporatism where govt does things for the benefit of business rather than the people. - that's why you are in the shits. You don't have a welfare state or anything remotely like one. Nor do you have a political party that is left wing, one is just slightly less right wing than the other.
None of those things you mention would be viewed as liberal policies since it was interfering in the free market economy - not to regulate but to distort and prevent it functioning properly. The fannie mae one is a case in point, ( have you any idea how funny that name is to someone from the UK) allowing them to lend to people that couldn't afford it was just plain stupidity, anyone with half a brain could see what was going to happen, in fact many did but were ignored. I dont see why you think that was in any way a liberal policy because it quite clearly wasn't. nor could it be classed as capital since it was an action taken to pevent the free market operating properly.

'Socialism' has become a meaningless label in the U.S. Most people who use the term don't understand that it's just extending more principals of democracy to economics. Some wealthy people don't like that, because it means they can't screw over everyone. Some non-wealthy people don't like the idea, because they've been brainwashed to believe that "democracy == oppressive state control"

The Constitution is compatible with either economic system. Both at the state and national levels. If you read it, you'd know that.

But there is nothing to prevent those conscientious parents from making healthy choices for their children. They have the right to do that. You make a good point about paying the medical bills for obese kids and adults. I don't like that idea just as I don't like the idea of paying the medical bills for Mexican citizens who have never worked or lived in this country but it's happening on a daily basis.

Well it's been quite a while since last having Micky-D's. Anyway, during a weak moment last month, we had Micky-D's for a convienent quick snack. The wife had a Big Mac, & moi a quarter pounder. I must say they were the worst burgers we have had in a long time!!! The so called burgers seemed to be made out of some "mystery meat", looking grayish, & they sure did not taste like any kind of familiar beef. We will never, ever, do a Micky-D's run again!!! (Never say never, but in this case, it will be never!)
