I've been insulted and called names here many times and I generally shrug it off. And those were direct insult: "Snooze, you're a ." I haven't seen Oscar directly insult anyone in this thread and if koan is reading remarks about an unknown man as indirect insult to her, then maybe she's the one with the problem, not Oscar.

Oscar had no way of knowing I would actually bother to respond to her post and I really really doubt she needs validation from me or anyone else as to what insults to use. Anyway it's not much of an an insult rather a description you would not use to somebody's face, not least because it would probably go right over their head. If it didn't go over their head the person would probably laugh because they've just been insulted by someone that doesn't understand the meaning of the word but wants to impress by using intelligent sounding insults.
The fun best way to insult someone (if that is what you want to do) is do it in such a way that they know they have been insulted but it's done in such a manner they are left with no response. What's this fascination with insults anyway, I think maybe it's a north american thing or insecurity that people feel the need to put people down in conversation or have the last word, not everybody will agree with your point of view, doesn't make them wrong necessarily. I corrected oscar's use of intellect because i found it jarring, took me a while to pluck up the nerve to do so - it's rude to correct someone's use of english. Just as well as we would be forever telling off americans for not spelling properly:sneaky:
I think there's been way too much assumption In this thread and reading between the lines. Not sure why frankly... the entire basis of the thread was re: what an old hand said to me In a coffee break. My question was what makes someone an Intellect and what makes someone a pseudo Intellect as he described him.
No where have I written that I wanted to Insult the guy nor have I written that I wanted to use 'pseudo Intellect' to Insult him.
The man Is Irritating sure, but you don't bring council meetings down to a farce by hurling Insults, there's a protocol.
Besides, I'm not In the habit of Insulting people just because they are Irritating.... But your right Auld Yin... when the need takes me to Insult, I need no help :wah::wah::wah:

I heard of Intellect used as a description for people before but this was a first for me...
So... what defines Intellect and what makes a pseudo Intellect?
Do an advanced search for "pseudo" and oscar as the poster on this forum and you will get results of 8 posts prior to this thread. One of which specifically attaches the pseudo quality to intellectualism. Funny enough, she was quoting gmc who was busily insulting spot. At the time, oscar seemed to have no trouble understanding what the words meant when put together. She was even able to expand the prefix and successfully attach it to other words.

Laden with irony. Americans: not stupid at all

Again we agree. This thread is entirely vacuous.

No we don't I wouldn't have bothered posting in it if I thought it entirely vacuous, bit surprised it went on for so long though. If you thought it so why did you post in it? How you could conclude it was aimed at you completely eludes me. Might I make a suggestion? Put on ignore those people you don't like or think have it in for you and just, well ignore them. Some of your posts I find quite interesting the rest I read briefly and ignore by which I mean they are not of any particular interest to me not that they are vacuous. Some of oscars posts I find interesting the rest I ignore. Oscar's politics I find a bit vacuous but she was in the BNP and reads the daily mail ( see! that was a subtle insult

)

I posted in it because I read the OP and have two things in mind
1)

2) oscar's husband claims she has a "near" photographic memory
I believe him.
