Thank you Patsy, fingers crossed, this episode will only be few more grey hairs and not scars (even little ones)

The preperation was a nice citrony taste at first, so I put a little orange squash in to enhance it. I was gagging from halfway through the first batch, and as I hadn't altered my diet to roughage free due to overlooking the supplied instructions, I thought I had better make sure take it all to make double sure.

The week before last I got a letter from the Greek gastrologist, giving me a date for my next appointment 22nd April.

That was a relief, my reasoning being it can't that urgent or it would have been a lot sooner.

Then earlier this week I got another appoinment as an out patient for my colorectal surgery.

If it were not an Easter weekend I would be up the doctors asking questions.

Hopefully I shall see him Tuesday

I was under the impresson removing lesions was the extent of the issue.?

Only a few here at FG are aware that my husband just went thru colon surgery 12/12/2012 We spent C'Mas in the hospital.

Dr.'s found a mass in his colon - disconnected his colon which he had a osomy (bag) attached - Oh, trust me he didn't want to go thru this surgery. March 2013 my husband had the surgery to reconnect the colon and is doing great.

Medical has grown to be able to do amazing procedures that they wouldn't of been able to do a few years ago. My husband's experience was the worst scenario with a good outcome.

The mass developed from the radiation he had for cancer 2004 - lymph nodes cancer.

This is just a example and I am now comfortable to speak of - stressful time - yes...!

Your situation is different - in the same region.

I suppose you have to drink that junk again? Hopefully the DR. will put you at ease when you talk to him Tuesday, write down any & all questions so your comfortable.

What I forgot to mention was the second apointement for surgery is for 16th April, so before the one with the cheery Greek consultant, (we both seemed to like each other )

I am concerned they are not talking to each other, I have had no follow up to the horrendous tests, I was expecting at the very least a letter, and would prefer a chat face to face with someone, anyone.

I am not one to worry, I have said and it's true, that I worry about my NOT worrying about somethings I ought to worry about.

I don't believe I have anything major, but I would like to know.

You are right not to worry, as that solves nothing and patsy is so right in what she said. There are miracles today, Bruv my dear.

When you had your procedure, had they found anything sinister, they would have told you while you were there.

Did they take a biopsy during the procedure? If so, It's often the case that your GP assumes the hospital has Informed you and the hospital assumes your GP has called you In for a chat about the results...

If It's really worrying you, don't suffer In silence. Phone your GP

As I said I don't worry.

They found lesions, they tatooed them, so they could find them better later....I think.

I understood I was to have some sort of keyhole surgery at some stage (even thought I should get some jamas)

I thought I would have had someone brief me about whatever ails me before this stage.

My concern is that nobody has been in touch other than giving me appointments without some explanation as to what it really is all about.

I hardly have any symptoms, just an uneasy stomach, a minor discomfort.

My aim is to talk to my Doctor on Tuesday

They should have explained things better for you though.... Your GP should have received a full summery though.

Interesting. Here, colon lesions are not marked but immediately burnt off, or removed in some way.

What has thrown me is the timing and the letters from different departments.

First appointment from the Doctor that arranged for the colonoscopy on 22nd.

Followed by another appointment on the 16th saying "We are pleased to offer you the following colorectal surgery outpatient appoinment"

Whether that second appoinment (which happens to be first) is for the talk through or surgery I don't know, after thinking about it.

Whatever will be will be...

You're fortunate that you have the ability to not overly worry about things because it can be a true energy zapper.

Saw my GP today.

I showed him the 2 appointment letters and asked humourously if the two depts talked to each other, he laughed.

Said they have all my details on the same screen.

The pleasant Greek Dr is interested in my gastro, the other dept I haven't been to yet is interested in my bowel area, and they are all working together.

He weighed me, took my blood pressure, and assurred me as I was putting on weight after stopping smoking it shouldn't be the big C.

He said it was probably an information visit and not surgery on the 16th as I would need to have some preparation before surgery.

That's a good point.... If they wanted to do another procedure, they'd have sent you the junk to drink.... fingers crossed for you xxxx

As I stated earlier - the prep for any surgery in that region would require you to drink that good solution drink..

The bowel appt. - any surgery would require the drink solution.

The bowel appt. 16th would be the specialist -& will inform you and ask any & all questions you may have - & they may have you take a CT scan to eliminate any questions. If that's the case - make sure your system can handle any contrast dye solution whether injected or a drink. it's a iodine and many people can't tolerate the iodine.

And there's nothing wrong with asking for a copy of your records this specialist has on file.

I'm sure all is good or your GP would had said - it's not a secret..

No real updates, just a post to query the way the NHS works, or at least my local Hospital.

I got a letter telling me I had missed an appoinment on 18th March, I had no notification of any such appointment.

I phoned up the Hospital and found the different options too many for my feeble mind to cope with.

I studied the letters and came up with a dedicated Appointments Number, they knew nothing about it and it was the wrong dept. anyway, they told me another number to call.

These people said I shouldn't worry, as I was still being seen by that dept when I read out the list of prior and pending appointments.

Today I got a reminder for the future appointment on the 16th April in the post, the one I knew about already. That is in two weeks, the 'reminder' is about as much use as the original letter, in that it is too far ahead of the date. It is like your alarm clock going off at midnight to 'remind' you it will wake you at 7.00am.

I seems to me there is a breakdown in the appointment dept, each letter is costing money, plus the phantom appointment I knew nothing about.

I hope their medical competence is better than their appointment coordination.

Oh for God's sake - like you don't have enough on your mind.

So - now you'll get a bill for a missed appointment..!:-2

Sorry - I forgot the health care system in the UK

with a duplicate scheduling error - at the time of visit we'd have to pay the co-pay for the missed appt.

We had to pay $800.00 up front for my husbands last surgery along with many other co-pays.

very expensive to stay healthy here.

I turned up today for the appointment I knew about and asked about the appointment they said I missed, they said they had phoned but hadn't got through, took my mobile number for next time. It seems the person responsible for making the appointment, didn't tell the system they failed to talk to me.......and so I failed to attend an appointment I knew nothing about.

Now for the bad news........kick in the testes time, confirmed bowel cancer, with Lymphoma to make it interesting.

23rd April for a pre admission clinic 3rd May for the operation, 6 days in hospital, 6 weeks recovery......allegedly.

The other irritation will be dealt with by chemo later.

Good news.....I get new pyjamas, and jockey shorts (my wife tells me.....Im a y front sort of bloke)

My wife's daughter has, this last week under gone surgery for breast cancer.

She went into hospital the day of the operation, spent one night in there and returned home the next day.

She looks remarkably well.

She prayed for me today, every little bit helps I suppose, felt a total **** when she wanted me to kneel and be born again......and I politely refused.

That sucks! Fight this, Bruv. Hopefully they've found everything and it's still early. I know virtually nothing of this sort of thing.

My hub survived Lymphoma cancer - chemo & radiation

then recently he had the obstruction/mass in his colon. During the recent mass surgery he had a osmy - bag attached to him which was reversed this March.

Discuss every action and what the reaction will be. Did the DR. discuss a Osmy with you?

You can do this and your not alone on this journey - you'll be up & out of that Hospital sooner than you think.

I am so sorry to to hear your bad news. I know this sounds futile right now because like me, your mind runs riot when you receive the news, but If they catch It early, It can be dealt with.

My wife's side have been praying......makes me a little uneasy to be honest.

She phoned my only sister, I have to phone my kids tonight, didn't want to spoil their whole day.

To cut a very long story short, she ended up In a right mess, full Chemo for a year, everything and she Is still not over the worst. I have just got off the phone, nobody can believe their healthy, never ever ill father/brother could dare to have such a thing happen to him.

As I tried to explain, I ride a bike every day, have a physical job, don't have any symptoms other than a gippy tummy, have never been into a hospital for anything other than cuts, I heal fast............................so I shall be OK.
