Gutless Cameron visits my home town...

So how is the cornwall independence movement coming along? Maybe all thiose of celtish descent should tell the anglo saxons to piss off back to germany and drop off the normans off on the way.

Joking aside what were the local elections results like? My understanding is that it is the local councils that are responsible for local planning decisions are second homers blocking economic development by packing the council?

In Bristol which Is also the West Country, the Lib Dems suffered a bloodbath and UKIP made big gains.

I think It's natural In any recession that the area's hardest hit are the tourist area's and holiday Industries such as Penzance.

You wait until, IF, Cameron goes ahead with the Badger Cull In Gloucestershire.... then the crap will hit the fan.

What has the badger cull in Gloucestershire got to do with Cornwall and Bristol?

In days gone by when we had real Moderation on FG instead of "self moderation," members were sanctioned by being banned for certain periods of time and in many cases banned outright for lesser "incidents" than we are now witnessing.

Whilst I am totally opposed to censorship in any shape or form, I do believe that members who continually use threads posted to attack and or insult other members. should at least be rapped over the knuckles.

Nobody expects to be "loved' by every member of FG, but by the same token nobody deserves to be continually berated whenever they have the temerity to either post a new thread or post an opposing view.

Sorry gmc, forgot to add my link.

Cost of badger cull may force U-turn | Environment | guardian.co.uk

I believe Gloucester and Somerset councils are challenging Cameron to visit the area as did Betty's Penzanze... If he answers the call, It will be Interesting to see If he meets the public who are deeply opposed to this cull.

Bristol is indeed in the West Country, as is Devon supposedly. Not quite sure what your point was there really.

Cornwall is Cornwall, it makes up a part of what people like to generalise as the West Country.

UKIP doesn't appear to have made any big gains here. Pleased to see that we have no party with overall control.

Indeed there is a recession on, and lots of people have not been abroad but are still holidaying in UK. Other areas are looked after and are drawing in the business, there are people around these parts but they won't be back, we lack facilities. The open air art deco pool on the prom is greatly admired, you can see people peering over the railings, then they must wonder why the gates are firmly shut! The pool no doubt will be open for six weeks in total from now until the end of the summer. There are no lifeguards on the local beach here, so the pool is the ideal place to go with children if you happen to pass by on a day it happens to be open.

We've already had the disruption of threats of badger culls in this area, we've certainly had the traps set and left out there to be vandalised and all the trouble that goes with being a test area. What's that got to do with my OP??

https://www.mebyonkernow.org/ are still going, not making any huge progress though, sadly. They did gain another seat on the council this time around though, making that four seats.

If we do as you suggest, tell the anglo saxons and the normans to errr disappear, I may have to leave Cornwall myself :wah: I may end up more up your way in Newcastle, depends what percentage of Cornish heritage counts :wah:

Rumours have always been the people in planning were a very clicky self serving group, with no foresight, conservatives I think.

Our town should be a testament to granite, there are some wonderful buildings in the town, but there are also some god awful buildings. Seems in the sixties and seventies granite properties were knocked down in favour of concrete, the main street is a delightful mixture - not!

St Ives is a fifteen minute drive away and has a completely different feel about it, where people have had foresight to cater to the holiday maker whilst retaining a Cornish atmosphere.

There's no overall control by any one party in Cornwall now, conservatives lost 18 seats, yay!! Where I live the Conservative candidate kept his seat but he's a very well known local business man, most people around here will have bought a car from him or worked for him and he's well liked. No one else seems to ever get a look in here :-3

Haven't been to cornwall for years, first cycled there from Bath and toured by car as well. But at least I've been there. Never ceases to amaze me the number of people that don't know their own country. I suppose it depends what kind of holiday you like. I know people who go abroad and just lie on the beach me I like to look around a place.

Never ceased to amaze me how the British behave as if they are in a huge country; many almost never seemed to leave their own village or area & because of that inhabitants of nearby localities would have different accents!

I love Bath. Wells, too. I love the whole country esp. Somerset. And who am I to talk? I rarely go to Manhattan, or as we in the Boroughs call it, the "city". Intend to remedy that soon, & have been going more & more.

A lot of it is that it is actually cheaper to have a package holiday and go abroad than it is to holiday at home. A lot of people just don't see the point in having a touring holiday they like sitting on beaches or are really not interested in looking at foreign counties or finding out anything about them. Equally you get a lot of people who have toured all over europe but never at home. Also depends what sports you like. Met a group of Americans who were over here to play golf? I think that is daft way to spend a holiday but that's me.
