Considering where the earthling in questions is employed, calling her "girl" was probably one of the most flattering names she's been called in some time.
Perhaps she would have preferred you to have used the Andy Cappesque title "missus."

Just asking.............what are you doing in my thread ?
I thought we had a truce, by which we both steered clear of each other?
I don't mind you contributing to my thread to be honest........if you just keep a reign on your linguistic eccentricities, such as "Earthling"
Where she is employed has nothing to do with anything as far as I am concerned, why should it ? She is at least young enough to be my daughter, hence 'girl'.

Citizen Bruv;
Just asking ...................Was it necessary to be so rude? Or have you decided to go this route so as to engage with me and thereby encourage me to continue to reply your thread?
The last time I looked there was no restriction upon who may and may not reply to threads posted on FG.
And for God's sake man, if you have to sink to the level of being facetious in order to get my attention by complaining about my "linguistic eccentricities", then please use a spell check.
I'm the Chosen one not a King so there is no need to speak of "reign." The correct terminology would have been "rein."
As for this meaningless jargon ... "Where she is employed has nothing to do with anything as far as I am concerned, why should it ? She is at least young enough to be my daughter, hence 'girl'.[/QUOTE]"

What a great thread. Humor,irony,pretension,insults, apologies,advice etc.etc.
Bruv, I think it's nice that you feel the need to apologize for your faux pas (I left out foreign language) but I would be surprised if any young, old or middle aged female doctor would take offense here in the states. I do understand across the pond that these things sometimes tend to be more of a stumbling stone than here. If it were me I would just come out and tell here that no offense was intended and be done with it.

I don't see anything wrong in JJ response that justify some of the responses he received following his reply. Perhaps it is just the British sense of humor that I am still trying to grasp. Or perhaps some of you just like to pick apart those who are different then you. Being called an earthling is nothing to vent over....after all you do live on the planet known as the earth don't you?

We have in England a cultural background you might easily be unfamiliar with which is dominated by the Mighty Tharg. All this JJ grexnix pseudo-extraterrestrial squalking seems to parody what, in this country, is taken by most of the thinking population as holy writ. Hence the arched backs and lack of amusement.

Oh I say - written references date back at least to the 1680s, there were no Americans back then. There were British Colonists and I expect they took their spittoons across the Atlantic along with their vile intransigent fundamentalist dissenting modes of worship.

Citizen Bruv;
I was going to post another reply to your thread but changed my mind because I did not want to continue taking it off topic. However after reading what you and other members were posting, I changed my mind. Then I changed it again.
So instead I have now decided to post my reply in one of my journals. Why you may ask? No, its certainly NOT because nobody else can post a reply there ... anyone can simply reply on your thread or on a thread of their own.
Well its firstly because you were very nasty about me having the audacity to post a reply on your thread. And secondly because I do not want to be responsible for your thread getting a gazillion more views than it deserves.
Of course not everyone will admit that they read my journal but they will and the FG guests will have something interesting to read.
You take care now and have an awesome evening.

Sometimes I feel that I should apologize to someone, regardless of whether the target agrees or not, regardless that lots of people are more rude than I, ... regardless.
I've found that if I approach the matter in any conventional way ("I want to apologize", "I think I might have offended you", etc) I invariably get shut down pretty automatically, as is expected today. "Oh, there's no need" or some such.
There is one technique I've found that has works consistently for me. I approach the person, look them square in the eye, and with as much sincerity as I can convey, say, "May I apologize to you?"
My guess is that such an approach communicates that it is important to me that I set things right, rather than I am doing this because it is expected. Hope that helps.
