The last time I looked there was no restriction upon who may and may not reply to threads posted on FG.

Bruv, I think it's nice that you feel the need to apologize for your faux pas (I left out foreign language) but I would be surprised if any young, old or middle aged female doctor would take offense here in the states. I do understand across the pond that these things sometimes tend to be more of a stumbling stone than here. If it were me I would just come out and tell here that no offense was intended and be done with it.

I don't see anything wrong in JJ response that justify some of the responses he received following his reply. Perhaps it is just the British sense of humor that I am still trying to grasp. Or perhaps some of you just like to pick apart those who are different then you. Being called an earthling is nothing to vent over....after all you do live on the planet known as the earth don't you?

So instead I have now decided to post my reply in one of my journals. Why you may ask? No, its certainly NOT because nobody else can post a reply there ... anyone can simply reply on your thread or on a thread of their own.

Well its firstly because you were very nasty about me having the audacity to post a reply on your thread. And secondly because I do not want to be responsible for your thread getting a gazillion more views than it deserves.

Of course not everyone will admit that they read my journal but they will and the FG guests will have something interesting to read.

Sometimes I feel that I should apologize to someone, regardless of whether the target agrees or not, regardless that lots of people are more rude than I, ... regardless.

I've found that if I approach the matter in any conventional way ("I want to apologize", "I think I might have offended you", etc) I invariably get shut down pretty automatically, as is expected today. "Oh, there's no need" or some such.

There is one technique I've found that has works consistently for me. I approach the person, look them square in the eye, and with as much sincerity as I can convey, say, "May I apologize to you?"

My guess is that such an approach communicates that it is important to me that I set things right, rather than I am doing this because it is expected. Hope that helps.
