Actually some people do spend a disproportionate amount of their time in front of a computer monitor to the detriment of not only their own well being, by also the well being of their family. So kicking a habit, any habit, that allows you to reintegrate yourself into the real world does, in my book deserve some sort of recognition.
Also because I have known FuzzyWuzzy since I joined FG, I thought that congratulations were appropriate. Its more like a "way to go babe" kinda thing.

True, for some.
I get to be here, in front of my computer all day, anyway, regardless of whether I am visiting forums, hanging out in FB, or whatever.
FG is one of my favorite hang-outs.

I have to get up at 5.30 am for my first job, then I'm home for an hour here and there between other jobs... I log onto Facebook and here and just keep the pages running so I can flick back as and when I want during the day and evening. I only post on one forum, here, as I just don't have time for any others.

People get so damn sensitive. I think I know what Fuzz means, although I can't presume. I value you folks so much, I really do, but sometimes I might prefer to have you physically in my life.
And Fuzz, I'd be delighted to sit with you & have coffee, but you live in Australia! So, I'm glad I can at least know you from FG.
So, Smile. We're all on Candid Camera (somewhere, by someone).

They send friend requests on Facebook to people they have never met from forums. Yet when you accept such a request, what you are really doing, Is opening up your life, your family, your real life friends and associates to them. Then the odd one continues to behave as though they are on a forum with you because they can't get their head around the fact that most people you are on Facebook with, are your family, ie real people and see nothing wrong with behaving like an arssehole to your family because to them ' It's not the real world'.
If I am friends on Facebook with anyone I know from a forum, I am extremely respectful of the fact that I am sharing part of their real life and not an extension of Forum Garden. That's why I am extremely cautious who I trust as my friends on Facebook. I have to really trust someone these days before accepting them.

Actually Ms Snooze, its not like an "online relationship" at all. To tell you the truth Fuzzy and I have communicated maybe five or six or seven or maybe eight times in five years.
Once many yonks ago she posted an image of herself here on FG and I wanted to take a look at it but couldn't find it. She went like "sigh" and guided me thru all the steps to find it. I have never forgotten that because she was patient and didn't tell me to go and be intimate with myself.
Its like certain people you "meet" online make you feel comfortable from the get go and Fuzzy is like that.
I don't mind being crucified for that. (Did I just say crucify?" Tut tut ... not the language an atheist should use!)

You're just like my boy dog JJ.... sniffing around any old butt looking for a fight or some action and when he doesn't get It, p.isses over the grass and walks away.
It's you who have p.issed all over this thread today with your oh so gallant act.
You think because someone has a disagreement with another on a forum, It's good old JJ to the rescue because JJ gets along with them. If you were that concerned you could have reported the posts.
The thread had turned Into a debate on Facebook until you came In. You assume because someone disagree's with another member they have a problem with them? They don't. Fuzzy Is able to fight her own corner, In fact, I remember a thread she posted some years ago where she stated her friends thought she was a man because she was so tough.
Yet, this Is what you do... Inject the gallant act to turn the thread to all about you.
So, yeah, for her and her threads sake, I'll leave It here but don't act the gallant knight with me. It means nothing.

Getting back to Facebook...
Just been chatting to one of brothers...He works Incredibly long hours. Leaves the house around 6 am and gets home around 8 pm, six days a week.... we were talking about this and he just told me that when he's on a break, he'll use his phone app to go to Facebook for a few minutes to check that I'm OK and see what I'm doing.... awww
So Facebook does have good uses.

You give the impression that you not a nice person. Is it really necessary to swear so much? Of course it means nothing to you because it seems you have no respect for the feelings of others. You are bombastic and mistakenly believe that by bullying other members here you will ultimately be the one whose opinion will live on and on.
Despite this I respect your right to express your own opinion freely and without any censorship. I just wish your would channel your energy in a more positive direction
On the other hand if you feel the need to take me on in a verbal war here on FG, you do so at your own risk.

I closed my fuzzbook (as we call it) account today.
I did reopen a new one on my other email address for family and my best friend only.
As I added one (ex)colleague the current colleagues followed, and if not added they would question me.
Well they can fuzz off as I have closed the whole damn account!
I re-opened a new one as my family live in England and Ireland and this is the best way to keep in touch.. And this way I can see my brother and sister-in-law's pictures of their kids growing up, my mums great morning walk pictures of the dogs , and my aunt keeps me up to date on my grandma's health situation.

I think the rules of FB are changing as well though . When I signed up it was vastly different to what I see others have to put up with today. The privacy issues have changed and I don't believe "what you put into it is what you get out of it". FB if you have noticed prompts you in many directions and usually people fall for those prompts. The new way of advertising now is, I believe, sidicious. You now have advertising on account of the wording you use in posts and pages you may click on. There's also another weirdo thing happening. What some people are experiencing in one country is not experienced in another according to their laws . Or you would think? . Some privacy laws in most countries are superceded or usurped by the global business plan of Facebook.
I saw a funny (or maybe not so funny at all) animation with 'Facebook' and 'Big brother' standing over a man at a computer. 'Facebook' was pushing 'Big brother' out of the way and calling him an "amature".
Now, I recently came across a forum that I joined which is a very private forum (no it has nothing to do with sex :-3 ) Governments don't tend to like it. And I'm sure I've already been checked by MI5 and my own government already. That's fine with me but FB is something where without even knowing it you open yourself up to the world more . For instance your job, your leisure activities, your family, your whereabouts at any given time, your politics your beliefs. In my case I gave over to the world my family history for the last 250 years because of a family reunion planned in Tasmania "group". I had to make those pics public for this group to see.
So there, I gave myself over to anyone who wants to know almost everything about me without even knowing that I had. Now granted that's over a period of years and flows over many interests I've had. And every single person who joins facebook does just that.
And I can hear the cries of "who'd be interested in me? " Well you'd be surprised who's interested in you since Facebook went on the stock exchange.
My own activism is of interest to some parties, my associations is of interest to others as well. And quite frankly there will come a day where it will be used against you or me in the courts.......yes to prove some kind of mundane point . And if you don't believe me it has already happened to me . (btw that's not why I deleted my account actually I kept it running to spite the hacker)
Oh and the spam in the "other" message folder. So that has begun as well.
I tried to do a lot of good with facebook but I can see now that there are no checks and balances with the facebook team itself. Not only is it negligent but extremely dangerous for everyone concerned.
Now you may be sitting there thinking "WOW what did you do on FB to cause so much angst?".............well not a lot really and nothing I couldn't handle if it came right down to it . But it's the fact you are not protetcted in any way shape of form by FB itself. Anything can be turned on you at the whim of governments, groups, and the courts.
sounds like a conspiricy? Well it is. Depending on what your government/police force/military is up to at any given time you suddenly become a target. Say FB was around in say ....Nazi germany? Or Bosnia? Or Palistine.........oops it is!!! Is anyone going to make the bet that there will be no evil enterprises or governments that will use all the info on FB to their advantage? It's happening right now. Has what I've written sound far fetched? Well police have been using facebook to apprehend criminals for ages now, they've also used to to find people. Debt collectors use facebook. The government uses facebook to collate info on protestors or what they consider to be dissidents. People with vengences put heartfelt pics up of people who are missing or put up public notices of a person who stole their car etc etc etc . People are putting pics up of others who they say have done something terrible or abusive to animals "find this person he's a killer of kittens" None of it is true unless you saw it on the news already or it has been verified by police reports. But the 'sheeple' are reposting posts that aren't true and all hell is happening all over the world because of the description earlier in this thread that everyhting today is "instant" .......well sit back and take a breath people because you are becoming the unwitting instigators of trouble for your loved ones and family.
Facebook is the new 'sheeple'. You only 'think' you have privacy. You only 'think' you are having a harmless conversation. You 'think' you are expressing a valid opinion and have every right to do so. But all the while you are being led to give out more and more info about yourself, you are being led to give out info on others. And you are handing everything to those who want to use this info on a platter.

Yes, the police and debt collectors do use Facebook as they use Twitter or any other social networking site. But then If you are stupid enough to give details of your crimes on Facebook, or even commit a crime In the first place, you get all you deserve along with those who don't pay their bills and rip people off.
As It happens, I am on Facebook friends with some of the most watched members of The Far Right In this country who we all know are watched like hawks by the establishment. It's no big deal. I also have famous people In the racing Industry such as Victor Chandler and Richard Dunwoody who all live comfortably alongside my far right friends and my family.
Why should It be a problem ? I don't make a tit of myself with them and am always respectful and curteous should I comment. I don't make comments likely to Inflame or cause them problems. The establishment are watching them not me even though you could call me an activist. I've met with them all In real life and would never put any of them In any position by embarressing them. If we want to talk without being seen, we use e mail. The establishment do not watch every single member who happens to be friends with them, just the one's who are obviously out to cause trouble or bring attention to themselves and Nick Griffin Is pretty swift at dealing with morons who do that. Likewise, they are curteous to my family and friends and would never compromise me In any way. Abide by that unwritten etiquette and Facebook works just fine for people In all fields.

Merely pointing out that being on a site with people watched by the establishment doesn't have to be a big deal should you play by the rules. Playing by the rules does not make you a target.

The most outrageous and controversial thing I've posted on FB lately was about my grocery shopping trip.
The old saying Trash in, trash out applies here as well. If you're naive or stupid enough to write treasonous sentiments, boast about a crime you've committed or some other thing that obviously shouldn't be shared with the masses, then you deserve whatever you get.

I'm not sure Facebook in particular needs singling out. The privacy and monitoring issues stretch a long way across the internet. I use Gmail, for example. There's damn little privacy in that. Wherever I go with my Android phone switched on, my location's immediately available to what you refer to as the government. You can be pretty certain that your bank transactions are available beyond the doors of your bank. In all these cases the question is how many people are authorized to access each invasion of privacy. Does it include the police? Local council workers?

Prithee, say on. The setting of thine eye and cheek proclaim a matter from thee, and a birth, indeed which throes thee much to yield.
Which category of cellphone would you recommend instead of Android if you want to avoid tracking? If it communicates through a 2G or 3G network then it's triangulated the entire time it's switched on regardless of the operating system.

Exactly why it's silly to make Snowden a hero & NSA a James Bond Villain. We willingly gave up our privacy to the corporations decades ago. There is no privacy anymore, period.

If what it does is laudable then it ought to be upfront with its activities instead of lying by omission, by deception and by out-and-out untruths. It is a dishonorable institution.
