To be fair we are all guilty of using short hand on the understanding that we know what we mean and those that know us will know what we mean.

And strangely enough.........thats why we keep away from certain areas........sort of.

I finished watching both tapes. That was certainly strange, wasn't it. Any mathematicians here? What does it mean to be 14% black? It sounds like only a great-grandparent, not much further back than that, is it?

I read, (don't have link right now) where almost all of Southern white Americans have a percentage of black in their DNA. The whites whose families have always lived there, I mean.

I believe Ms. Ali said black people go back 78 trillion years of recorded history. Maybe I was dreaming.

I understood that the majority of Europeans have a high percentage of African DNA in their genes, it doesn't mean there is a recent or even distant family member, just that somewhere in the indescernable past they have a connection.

I am sure you can get a DNA test for a price.

This is a special type of DNA test, a heritage one. I have not read any claims concerning it's specific accuracy. Sounds interesting though. Funny, the guest at the end who challenged those 2 racists on the couch said "I'm a human being from the planet Earth", which is funny because that's what I have said about myself many times & asked my son to say it too, when we lived in various White Xian lands. Always feel a bit strange surrounded by only Xian White people. Like, "no blacks or latinos, uh oh, I might be next" kind of feeling! :-D

Not just the majority we all do as do the chinese and other east asians. What intrigues me is that europeans and chinese have traces of neanderthal dna - europeans more so than chinese, africans do not. Wonder what effect that had. I would like to think that is perhaps where the fey aspects to our nature come from. Don't suppose we will ever know.

Perhaps it is the Neanderthaller in us that makes the European the more aggressive and dominating type.

Doubt it, for one thing it's not just europeans that have the gene, chinese and asians do as well. Try asking a ww2 veteran of the pacific if he thought the Japanese lacked aggression. The mongols terrified europeans as did the turks and moors.

Having cannon and machine guns didn't make us more aggressive and dominating than africans it just meant we had a technological advantage such that they didn't have a chance against us. Without them they still managed to defeat european armies on occasion as did the north american indians. Are you really suggesting (for instance) African Americans are not as aggressive as their white counterparts?

There is a portion of mankind that believe blacks are the more aggressive because of outrages like the Rwandan massacre or the necklace of fire or even driveby shootings, but forget about the wholesale slaughter of two world wars.

By the Supreme Court, Loving v. Virginia

At that time, not all states had such laws, I dare say most all. For example in Hawaii

Maui on February 2, 1961

Ann Dunham

Barack Obama, Sr.

A prejudice is by definition an unreasoned opinion without any consideration of the facts. It's often a learned response from childhood that can be overcome by reason.

Sadly the bible and religious faith was used to justify slavery and racism and while no one would use the same arguments nowadays the prejudice is deep seated, it's seems almost an article of faith - this is what I believe and no one can question my right to these beliefs. . IMO anyway, I don't claim to be an expert on the matter just opinionated.

Your deliberate misspelling of Barack & Eric is childish. If you want to change words around for sarcasm, at least do something more clever, i.e. patriotit.

I hope gmc didn't think miscegenation was a nationwide concept, so it's good you straightened that out. It would have been just as offensive if it were only One State, however.

No I didn't think that at all. I knew some of the states had such laws - even in states that had such laws I would have thought there were many who considered it ridiculous that anyone should think they have the right to tell anyone who they can marry. It's hard to judge how prevalent such attitudes really are from the other side of the pond. Bigotry and racism are not exactly confined to america (see hitler, northern ireland, anti-irish etc etc). Now we have our media stirring up anti-polish and east european sentiment. My wife is English you should hear her on the subject of anti english scots - who generally speaking tend to be the same mentality that find religious bigotry attractive as well.

Have a look for the seven daughters of eve

The Seven Daughters of Eve - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can't reason with bigots and racists all you can do is keep plugging away and hope they start learning to think for themselves.

My favourite ploy with any90ne coming out with racist comments was to play the blue eyed card - assuming of course you are talking to someone with brown eyes. Anyone with brown eyes must have african blood in them since all true north europeans have blue eyes. You must have negro blood in you because your eyes are brown. It's at least as good an argument as any they come out with and watching their attempts to think of an answer can be entertaining.

But some blacks have blue eyes. Now I feel inferior, my eyes are hazel. I don't belong anywhere. Or maybe I belong everywhere. Now that's a scary thought. :)

I guess in a sense that's true, but it's so long ago that it's a mute argument. Remembering that 'racism' is a twentieth century word. And considering most of the old rulers wanted beauties of all nations. (for harems and captives, concubines etc etc) Then if they thought merit in mixing blood lines and kingdoms then what the hell are we all on about in the later of the centuries?
