DICK: “I think I can convince the world that it is more reasonable to believe in G-d than to believe in the world you actually see."

JANE: žHow so?

DICK: žThere exists only one provable fact and that is ‘consciousness’. So in this way it makes more sense to believe in G-d rather than anything we think that we can see and touch.

JANE: žBut how do you know that ‘consciousness’ has been proven?"

DICK: žBecause everything is based upon that one, provable fact.“

JANE: žSo what you are saying is that ‘consciousness’ is fact because it is provable and it has been proved because it is fact?

DICK: žThat’s right.“

JANE: “But how do we know that the world we actually see isn’t fact as well?

DICK: “Because it isn’t provable.

JANE: “Huh?

DICK: “Pay attention, Jane.

JANE: “I am trying.

DICK: “You seem to be lost.

JANE: “Well, I just don’t understand why G-d and consciousness are more reliable than the material experience.

DICK: “BECAUSE CONSCIOUSNESS IS THE ONLY PROVABLE FACT.

JANE: “Oh.

SPOT: “Wooof! I’m fond of dog biscuits.

They'll take what they can get.

Our local Hasidic community is in Tottenham next to the river Lea. Quite often I cycle the along the Lea and it amuses me to see them standing by the towpath studying the Torah alongside the local Muslim community standing on the towpath studying the Qur'an - in the middle east they can be at each other's throats but in London they stand together united by their common cultural heritage.
