I don't mind you using this thread to rant - I've done a bit of it myself !
Helen, Odie's right, just ignore them, if they can't be bothered to 'pop in' when they're in the area that's going to be their loss ! It's a pity you felt you should let them have some money for Christmas presents, firstly because you may not get it repaid (judging from past experiences !), secondly, have they really deserved help from the Cornwall donation society ??????
I just cannot understand offspring that totally neglect (cos that is what it is innit?) their mum ! Are they so selfish that their religion is 'I, me, my' now ?
Ere, Helen, join a social club (or whatever), there must be several around where you live, and you can get involved with other people who, I've no doubt, will soon become friends. I'm sure great fun can be had, even if it's only having a good old gossip over a cup of coffee ! Don't vegetate on your own, go out and have yourself some fun. OK, I know you play darts, but you could broaden your horizons a little, and then you can say to your daughters 'Sorry, dear, but I am far too busy at the moment, I've got to do so-and-so, and I will not be at home to see you! Call again next week, I may be at home on Wednesday next !' :yh_rotfl
I wish I was living down there, we'd bloody well cause a stir in the town!

mornin all,
its one of those horrible grey days here, been out with the dog and now hes curled up behind my back with his nose resting on the edge of the keyboard !! its killing my back but im too soft to move him:rolleyes: if he was a tiny dog, it wouldnt br so bad but a slightly overweight springer spaniel ??? lol
never thought id say this but i shall be glad to get back to work next weekend.
ive got a couple of small suitcases filled with silly bits of paperwork and mementos of my mums and i know it time to let it go now.
what i would like to do is put it straight into a black rubbish bag and straight out for the bin men on wednesday so i dont have to see it BUT i also know theres stuff in there of mine that i need to keep, eg, birth certificate etc so i know ive got to go through it.
ive also got a very large toy elephant and a rabbit that ive had for many years and both are well past their sell by date and i know theyve got to go but still cant bring myself to do it.
think i;ll have a cuppa and a ciggie and think about it some more :-5

It is so hard to dispose of special stuff isn't it? We're having the same problem here LOL. I keep telling myself that all the memories are stored in my filing cabinet in my head, but it isn't the same as taking hold of an ornament that mum gave me during that lovely holiday all those years ago, or that silly fluffy toy that I had when I was a child ! So it goes on................ but I've got to be ruthless, and just oust most of it! Except the photos LOL ---- I've got at least 2 big plastic boxes full of photos LOL.
Well good luck to you Helen ! Decisions, decisions LOL.
I'm going out for a trip to Derbyshire, having fish and chips at Matlock, and hopefully able to see gorgeous views, whilst it's a nice sunny day ! May catch you later, take care ! :-6 :driving:

do things when you feel like it and not before, there is never any rush......some keep mementos for years.
It was cold when I went out, my god, the Christmas shoppers at 9 am, roads were already backed up.
I have a small lit tree that sits in my bay window, so I put that up, not going to bother with any more decorations this year as it will be a hard one to pull through since hubby walked out 6 months ago.
It does help a lot to get back to work after being through so much.

i lost my partner 4yrs ago from a massive heart attack, the first christmas was so hard but my youngest daughter let me sort of take over her house for the holiday cos she knew that was the best way to let me cope with it.
the following 18mths were pretty horrific cos we were involved in something really dreadful that i cant go into on here and since then things seem to have fallen apart.
i think ive now found out what my eldest daughters problem is, three of her girls have their own lives and extended families now, her youngest will be working on xmas day so for the first time she will be more or less on her own.
however this is not an excuse for her to cut me out of her life..................
i cant go to my youngest anymore cos they wont have the dog there, in a way i can understand cos theyve waited a long time to get their home up to scratch and wallace sheds hair and mud on stuff just by walking past it !!
my so called freind is so desperate to keep hold of this young chap shes seeing that shes taking him 200 miles to spend xmas with his ex girlfriend and his little girl and because it will be xmas eve, she knows she will be staying there rtather than travel back over nite.
at least ive had to resort to that to keep a man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I often wonder why people get dogs if they don't clean up after them..sheds of fur everywhere would turn anyone off.
well, as I said.....just ignore your family...give them a taste of their own medicine.

Well we went to Derbyshire, to Matlock Bath, and we had our fish and chips (and mushy peas LOL) lunch - delicious, from probably the best Fish and Chip Cafe in Derbyshire! I did take a couple of photos though..................................
The first pic is 'The Promenade Fish Bar' where we had gorgeous cod, chips and mushy peas. The second pic - 'The Promenade' is at the far right - with it's view over the River Derwent. The third pic is the view from the cafe of the Derwent and the wooded hills beyond. The other two pics are general views of Matlock Bath - the light was fading fast and the sky was overcast, but it enabled some lights to show up!
Hubby Chris and son Andy walked our dog Rex quite a way along the pathway that was on the other side of the river, and they all thoroughly enjoyed it ! I stayed in the car just looking at the lovely views and watching people to-ing and fro-ing - it was busier than I expected at this time of year, even for a Saturday!
We all really enjoyed the day - a chance to 'get away from it all' and enjoy each other's company as a family relaxing. The Peak District is such an awesome area!
Buxton, was another 22 plus miles further north from Matlock Bath.
Matlock Bath was so called because of the 'spa water' which was probably discovered by the Romans when they mined lead in Matlock. They must have bathed in this beneficial mineral water in specially built 'baths'. Georgians and Victorians made it very popular, and quite a draw for visitors. There still are mineral baths available to people in the Bath Hotel, there is also a swimming pool with the spa water at this hotel. The mineral water comes from natural spring water wells, and is usually very cold. Buxton also has spa baths available to the general public, and spa fountains for drinking from !
There..................... now you know........................ history lesson over ! :wah:

Oh Gill,
Your pictures are absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, I've only been to Hollyhead, Wales and then took the train to London a few times. Loved both areas but that's all I've seen of your country.
I think that your country is beautiful and really must visit more areas on my next trip.
Thank you for posting pictures. I love them:-6

It's not that, I would have loved to have gone with them, but my back and hips just don't want to play! When we were at Norfolk in the summer, we invested in a smashing battery driven, 4 wheeled sh1t-off-a-shovel (4 mph :yh_rotfl) 'buggy', and I had a great deal of fun with that, particularly going round huge supermarkets - couldn't half nip round (with care of course) :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl and I was able to go everywhere! It can be taken apart in moments and stowed in the boot of the car. It is capable of about 12 - 15 miles before it needs to be re-charged. It was extremely useful as a luggage cart when we went to the beach (I was the porter ! :wah: ). I could go with my menfolk and the dog for walks, because most places had reasonable pathways that my buggy was quite happy on. Unfortunately, we couldn't manage to bring it back with us as we hadn't got enough room in the car with all our other stuff in the boot, and the car had 3 adults and a German Shepherd inside the saloon !

So I aint gorrit wimmy here! :-5
When the fellas go back to Norfolk to put up the steel (flat pack) garden shed we bought for the static, they will bring it back with them (I hope !), then I won't be left in the car, like I am at the moment !
I can walk about the house, no problem, and I can do everything that anybody else can do. What I can't do, is do any of it for any length of time, as it gets so damn painful ! I can even bend down and touch the floor with the flat of my hands, with my legs straight ! Which is something neither of my fellas can do
Mind you one wouldn't need particularly to do that on a regular basis :yh_rotfl
It's a bit frustrating really, when I remember how I used to be able to put each of my legs over my shoulders so my feet were draped down my front. Chris used to say it looked awful, particularly when I rocked gently till my feet were on the ground and I could stand up on them with me bum in the air and me head upside down looking at where I'd walked from! :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl I just cannot believe that I used to do that !
The back problem stems from an injury I got when I was at school, when somebody lifted me from behind then just let me go, and I landed heavily on the base of my spine. That hurt !!! I had to sit an exam in class that afternoon, and it was bloody agony! Like an idiot I never mentioned it to mum or dad when I got home, and after many days, the pain subsided so I thought it was just a bad bruise. I must have actually bruised the bone at the base of my spine, which has now developed into arthritis. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Don't we do stupid things when we are kids ?
YouTube - Go-Go Elite Traveller Scooter, Pride Mobility
Sorry this vid is a bit long, but it was the only one I could find that showed 'my' buggy !
This is the same make and model as mine. He didn't strip it down very well, and missed one or two important things, but at least it shows the scooter off !

We drove into the Vale of Belvoir today (Sunday) :driving: - we used to live in the Vale - and it was a very pleasant day. The weather, although a little windy, was sunny mostly, although it started to rain just as we returned to our house ! It was a bit cold as well............................ still there was a nice warm house to return to !
The following pics were taken today at Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir, just under the hill that supports the beautiful fairy tale castle - Belvoir Castle.
The canal is the Grantham Canal which runs from Grantham 33 miles into Nottingham, which Chris and I have been involved with it's restoration for 40 years!
Chris has now resigned from an active part, and is now the Vice President of the Grantham Canal Society. I have also 'retired' from taking an active part. There is now a very strong committee which, very vigourously, deals with all things Grantham Canal :-6

Millions of pounds have been raised (through grants and fund raising) and spent on restoration projects, like bridge repairs, and reconstruction, lock repairs (and some rebuilding), swing bridge construction, renewing the towpath the full length of the canal, etc etc. and is continuing apace.
This canal runs through some of the most beautiful rural countryside in the East Midlands, maybe even in England.
My two fellas walked our dog along the canalside here, this afternoon. :-6

Yes our country is rather beautiful, and so green with lots of trees and waterways, and of course the hilly areas are gorgeous ! cant remember the last time we had a white christmas. we dont get snow often down here anyway BUT when it does come, it does so with a vengance then people go into a blind panic cos roads close and the gritting lorries cant get out. think our transport authoritys need to take heed from other countries !!! they seem to manage ok..........................
Helen, it may be worth contacting your local police station, as I doubt anybody finding them would have a use for them, themselves. What a bloody pain ! Will you be OK for playing darts though ? :-3

Hello Gill! Just checking in while I still can :wah: Snow, sleet and freezing rain and mix that with high winds....off goes the electric :-5 We have snow coming down now at an inch per hour and it's going to keep coming until tomorrow evening :-5
Great for the ski areas around me but not so good on my end unless I can get a team of Huskies together to pull my sled :wah:

Yes our country is rather beautiful, and so green with lots of trees and waterways, and of course the hilly areas are gorgeous ! It's sad but there are so many people who live in this country who just do not appreciate the gorgeousness of the countryside that is so within their reach ! :-6
Hi Gill:-6
I absolutely love your pictures. One day I will visit more areas of the UK. It's true that we don't really appreciate the areas near us.
I lived right across the Hudson River from Manhattan. So, I was able to drive through the Holland Tunnel and be able to park my car in Manhattan within 10 minutes. But, I did not visit other wonderful areas around Manhattan....like the Cloisters and Ellis Island:o
Now that I live at the beach, I sometimes don't even go up to the beach for a walk.
I need to set my priorities straight and walk along the beach more often and visit Manhattan...which I am doing now. Unfortunately I have sciatica,so it's been hard for me to walk long distances. BUT, I am finally walking a mile a day and will one day walk the 10 miles I used to walk at least 4 days a week.
