This year has been a tough one for me in many ways. Earlier this year, I let a young man into my school. Now...when I interviewed him, it was immediately apparent that he was a hard-core gangster at the young age of 14.
I had a bad feeling about it, but I asked him, "Do yo really want this chance? A chance to get your life on track and catch up with the other kids? A chance to graduate? Because I can help you, but the students in my school are as imporant to their parents as you are to yours, and since the situation is so desperate, I have no tolerance for violence."
He replied that he was very much ready to go back to school, after missing the entire last half of 8th grade and watching his life stagnate. He seemed sincere, and despite my "teacher-sense" sending me screaming sirens, I went ahead and enrolled him.
The trouble started right away, first he got two girls to fight, then he beat up another student. He intimidated the rest and extorted money from them to go to "his" bathroom." A week was all it took for me to see the pattern. I expelled him.
the next week I got a death threat in the mail. Although it was unsigned, it was obvious who it was from since the spelling was so poor. then another death threat was mailed to my superintendent and principal.
Yesterday, I found a bullet, a live round, in my mailbox. I should say, my wife found it and it scared the hell out of her.
I have no fear. I've lived a long and adventurous life, and they could pump me full of lead and I'd just laugh. But if my wife was killed....I'd have nothing to lose.
More to come later....

Report it to the authorities Jives, they will arrest him. I once had a very bad girl threaten to kill my children, she didn't leave school on the bus that day, but in a police car.......................

There have been three drive-bys, two murders, and one triple murder (Skittles' brothers were killed!) in the past month. None of these cases have been solved, it's as if the gangs are running the town. Our school was also broken into by the same gang, they took nothing but teacher's records. With all our addresses on them.
I'm upping the security at my house, installing a solid door instead of one with a window on the side of the house, and....
I'm buying a gun this afternoon.

Like I said, F*** the little M************, they don't scare me one tiny bit. But coming to my home and frightening my wife is another story altogether.
If anything happens to her, the person I love the most in this world, they will all find out what it's like to face a remorseless, vicious, and combat-trained enemy.

I just can't get my head around this
I feel so awful for you and your family when all you were doing was giving the kid a chance. It's just so ****ed up!
14 years old and behaving like that? what has life done to him in order for him to act this way?
Also being a brit the thought of buying a gun scares the crap out of me. Don't get me wrong I totally understand why you feel the need and gun crime does seem more prevalent here but it's such a scary world now.:-1
Stay safe and sorry if I've rambled, it's just I'm staggered at this..I really am.

3 girls have just been arrested in England for attacking another girl in the school canteen with scissors....it beggars belief.

we have had several teachers and principals shot and killed by "kids" down here...and elsewhere in the country. this is no joke, especially since there is clearly gang activity in your area Jives. i am asking you as a pragmatic matter to report all of this to cops in CASE YOU HAVE TO CAP SOMEBODY. CYA.

Yes, I have turned the bullet over to my SRO (School Resource Officer) and I have informed my administration. For now, I'm just laying low and hoping that the gangsters will find a new hobby soon. As screwed up as their lives are, I'm sure something will come along soon that will take their attention off me.

Jives. This is bad news, devastating. I can't say any more than the others have already said except that you have my support. I guess you know what you are doing, but I am scared for you. I pray to god that it blows over and if not, then I pray that he will give you both the strength to see this through. God bless you both.

Verbal threats are one thing, but a bullet in the mailbox is a bit too close to you and yours to ignore............. Whatever you choose to do, you need to NOT be alone in your endeavor.
Will pray for a safe solution to this.

Wow Jives, I feel for you & yours, what a miserable situation!!! You keep saying you're not scared by this thug, well you should be. As you well know, a "14" year old can kill you dead just as a full grown up can, so you must not take this situation lightly. Like Far said, take pre-emptive measures first, before you & or yours become another statistic! It would be wise to send your wife to a secret location for a few weeks, just for her own safety. (It will take your mind off worring about her safety, and let you concentrate on you own safety) At least until this matter is ended, & or the thug is in Jail! Take care & don't let your guard down even for a minute! Better to be safe, than sorry!
Wishing you the very best of luck, you are in my thoughts & prayers.

Jives,
I know your capable of taking care of yourself no problem there. I'm worried for you wife she is the one they may make a target. I hope you have reported this to the police.. This gangster has a record they can deal with him.. don't put yourself or your family in his sights.. Gangster kids are a different breed they fear nothing, and will do anything.. they have nothing to lose..you do..
Just watch your back and if possible get out of there for awhile..!! death is permanent.. wouldn't want anything to happen to your or your family..:-3
Be careful, I will keep you in my prayers..!!

What good is documentation after he/or his loved ones are killed. If I were you Jives I would get a gun and put one through his "gangsta wannabe" head if he ever showed any threat whatsoever to harm me or my family in any way. I realize that alot of kids like to overexadurate in their intimidations but some places in America are deceiving.
He obviously cant sacrifice his image because he is afraid it would show weakness, which has been falsly inbetted into his head from the time he could remember anything whatsoever.
I have a question though.
Do you know his background and where he is from to let you know what kind of actions this kid has been exposed to on the streets so that you know what he may be capable of reinacting toward you?
Your judgement is your best defense in this situation. I hope your good on instincts, and having said that I say good luck to you.

the documentation is necessary in case he has to shoot someone in self defense. he did arm himself and he does know the kid if you read the thread.

Ok Ok LC.
Just a question.
And you can think you know someone but really have no clue what they are capable of. I meant know the kids background and if he is just full of bull or for real.

The High Schools are getting to be a dangerous place. We've had 2 lockdowns in as many weeks for kids bringing guns to school. I really admire Jives for trying to give this kid a chance. It gets so disheartening when it turns out like this - you learn to turn a cold heart and might not reach out to the next kid who would benefit. I am not trying to belittle the gravity of what Jives is going through - to think you might have to kill to protect your family from a teen your were trying to help is just unbelievable. Just remember Jives - if you shoot him in the street in front of your house - drag his body into the yard. Seriously though - keep safe.

the punk could be some gangsta wannabe, but once a threat is issued he's playing with the grownups. we have had two "children" in florida get LIFE at 14 for shooting and killing their teachers. this requires hardball. anyway, now you know why this stuff has to be documented. once someone threatened my life and i went to the jail, got a witness, pulled him out of the blocks, and told him his threat was taped in prisoner visitation and i now had the right to shoot his a$$ if i saw him near my house. that's what Jives has to do.

omg this is what movies are based on...
living in australia i count myself how lucky i really am... this is something unheard off where i live and we only ever experience this by watching american movies or news... im in shock as to how bad the world comes to... all we have done is created a self destructive paraniod planet and it really pains me when I hear stories like that... i have a child and wonder was i a bad mother for bringing a child into this planet? what has he got to live for when 14 year olds run around giving death threats or have guns.
When i was growing up and aged 14 my worst concern was if the school teacher detect i had lipgloss on and not notice i forgot my school tie... not guns and threats...
my heart goes out to you... I know that i couldnt mentally cope living in a situation like this... your very strong and i pray that this is the end of ur terrible ordeal and you never hear from him again...
you will be in my heart and in my prayers...

I just want to add that i must be living in the luckiest countries to not have to experience what you are going through jives... i cant ever begin to understand your feelings of anger and threat... and hope that i never get that chance....
this story has really hit me.. i keep walking away thinking about it and try and rationalise and reason as to why these things do happen... i dont live in america so i dont understand why everyone is so pro gun and i dont understand this gang thing... but i do watch american documentaries... im not sure whether they are american propaganda but they do tend to sway to the notion that america is killing themselves with their civil liberties laws... it seems like the american way of life... have a gun for protection... i am lucky to say i have never needed to own a gun for protection... here we call the police and let them do the work for you... we dont take matters into our own hands.. i know i am generalising here... but i just dont understand...
the complexity of these stories i hear are mind boggling.. man shoots man so man buys bigger gun in retaliation so other man gets more guns more ppl as so other and really at the end of the day what are these men fighting for? what do these gangs represent? what is the fight for? freedom? they have freedom. religion? they have religion. land? they have their land.
when i travelled to europe when i was younger i visited a country under communist rule...poland... it was under martial law. there was no freedom. there was no land to call there own... there was no freedom of speach and no democracy... i witnessed with my own eyes in warsaw, military troups spray tear gas at innocent people having a silent vigil for a freedom fighter... i was trapped in this and lost my passport was taken into custody and thrown into the australian embassy with a threat to be thrown out of the country. i was 9 at the time... where does it end? when does someone stand up and say enough is enough... life is so precious, it the most amazing gift given to us by what i call god... why is it beginning to be so easy to throw it all away....
sorry i tend to talk alot when i get on my soap box... but are just my words and my opinion... i just wish that jives or anyone in this world needs to go through what he is going through... noone deserves this... no matter what... noone....

from my ever complicated point of view these things make sense. it's just they remain illogical things to do.
all these people of the world who are the same at the most fundamental level and beyond fighting each other over such little differences. (lol i put that in my english essay)
its so easy to fail and live by natures intentions but its so hard to live by your own intentions. the rewards are great so why don't people rise to the challange?
it pointless, its stupid, it's not as common as you might think on the grand scale but in the end all jivesy can do is watch it.

I hate seeing innocences being lost because of crazy ideals... i beleive in the heart of life and love... i feel so sorry for jives.. coz not only its him involved but his family too... its like a virus.... it just keeps spreading... i just wish i could do something else but pray but i feel helpless. and its frustrating... there is so much good in people all over the world and yet all we see is the bad... im not saying that this 14 year old is good kid but potentially he couldve been... jives put his hand out to give him that chance.... and he used it and abused the chance he had... its sad... only 14 to take it this far... why? why couldnt he just walk away.... retribution has become a way off life... and im sorry to see good people enduring it because they did the right thing... it just makes me so damn angry...:-1

It's sad, but true. Criminals also start out as kids. Teachers get to see the best and the worst.
Keep records and report it to the authorities. Leaving a paper trail with the police will help if anything ever has to go into court, before a judge.
I don't know what else to say, except that maybe you could think about moving. The move doesn't have to be far, and you could still keep your job. At least, you know that you'd be living somewhere where the little criminal won't know your address.
Kids also do things to act cool and to try to impress their friends. His friends could be egging him on, also. Too often, kids just don't understand, and they think that acting out like that makes them big and bad and cool. It's scary when you're dealing with immature, underdeveloped brains -- basically, what kids are. Be careful. I'll pray for the safety of you and your family.

Wow! don't know what to say. My wife is a teacher in a pretty rough sink school-used to teach in an Innerlondon school as well. Teachers an pupils got assaulted occassionally but death threats and guns are just not a feature. That's why when there is an incident in the UK it hits the national press. It's not just guns is it? there seems to be a kind of culture macho behaviour involved as well. Mind you i cannot claim to know what i am talking about so far as the US is concerned.

That is a disturbing situation. I would urge you to contact the local police as ladycop has said, Its probably also prudent to get a firearm in the circumstances, though that is also a very sad thing to have to do. I don't really know what to say except to be very cautious and measured in your response to this (hard I would imagine). Anyway, just be careful.
