I have decided that no matter how bad my life gets and what other people say or think about me that I am just going to be happy -- happy that I'm healthy and alive. Heck, if we really think about it, anyway, we're all alone, even if we are married. We come into this world by ourselves and we leave it by ourselves. And I really don't care if I'm living my life by other people's standards. It's my life -- not theirs.

I've just made my mind up to be happy from now on, no matter what. No one can take that away from me, unless I let them.

What are some other interesting words of wisdom and advice that other Garden Members live by?

Live one day at a time....................

That has been my motto for over a year now, the future is too difficult to deal with at times. There is enough to do today.

Instead of trying to build newer and bigger weapons of destruction, we should be thinking about getting more use out of the ones we already have.

Good for you V100! ;)

"Today well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope."

Be happy with who you are Valerie. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff!

Tips on life eh?

Well firstly always look for the truth and accept it no matter how difficult.

Love yourself, and love your neighbours as you would wish to be loved.

Identify your wishes and work as hard as you can to achieve them, don't settle for second best, but do not become disaffected if you are unable to achieve them fully.

Do not be too hard on people who you may feel have failed you, we are all human.

Do not be a fool, but don't take yourself too serisously.

Do not disregard money and sucess, but don't let them be the only benchmark by which you judge yourself as a person.

Do not be afraid to dispute something that you think is wrong, but be sure to think about whether your ideas are actually correct.

Understand that life inesvitably involves pain and hard work, and that anyone who tells you different is either lying or trying to sell you something.

Always carry a flashlight in your car and make sure you have clean underwear.

Something tells me that you're having a bad moment, V. But it's true, being happy is the answer to life, the universe and everything. Smile, be happy. After all, what's the alternative and is it worth living. As I queued up to the use the cash till today, I watched a couple of little tots enjoying thermselves swinging around a couple of 2 foot high posts. That's what life's about, fun.

this is part of a poem Bothwell gave me when i was going through all my travails this past year....the thing he keeps reminding me of, and that i have tried to adopt, is the bit about treating triumph and disaster the same.~~~~~~~~~~~~If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too:

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;

If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same:.

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;~~

LC, I'd love to have a copy of that whole poem, if it's not too personal between you and Bothwell. Maybe, you could post the whole thing on this thread (I'm sure others might like a copy of it, too) or just send me a copy. The poem was beautiful and right on. Thanks!

A few quotes I believe in Val.....

Work out your own Salvation. Do not depend on others

You, yourself, as much as anybody else in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

This is poignant. When we learn to truly love ourselves, unimaginable things will happen in our lives. When we learn to forgive ourselves for our shortcomings then we learn what it means to soar. Love and forgiveness is a good place to be.

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings,

And never breathe a word about your loss:

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

Thanks, LC. I posted on the website, and I'm going to spend some more time reading eveyone's poetry posts. There are over 100 now. I used to write poetry, but I've stopped writing or even saving it, for that matter. It's been years. The poem that I posted to the favorite poetry thread also works well in this category.

Here is one of my favorites from throughout the years. I have it burned onto a wooden placque.

Points to Ponder

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul.

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises.

And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child.

And you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans.

After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure... that you really are strong.

And you really do have worth.

Don't run with scissors always was sage advise from my mom, actually LC's don't eat yellow snow was what I initially wanted to put ahaha she is warped ahahaha

Gosh I have to say what helped me in my darkest hours was the little voice inside saying, "remember there is always someone worse off than you" that pushed me onward and upward.

I celebrate no "faith" but others do and if you worship a follower lean on them.

Smile and the world smiles with you, cry and your cry alone.

Lastly .... don't be afraid to lean on friends....

Ahhh that saying reminds me of my best friend who at 35 had major back surgery after being incredibly healthy and fit, and is now in constant pain for life. Who at 38 lost first her oldest brother then her mother, who the following year lost a nephew and who last year lost another nephew. No matter what happens this dear woman still has the time of day to listen to others and she always is laughing and smiling. I love her dearly and she will forever inspire me. I wish she would come join us here but she is so busy.

Tomorrow is another day, with a chance to start anew.

For anyone contemplating suicide -- if you commit suicide, you take away whatever possibility there is that things will get better. You are making things permenantly their worst and unrepairable. You completely take away whatever chance exists that things will get better.

Once you are at the bottom, there is nowhere to go but up.

Which reminds me --

Friends are like elevators. They can take you up or they can bring you down.

Never judge a book by its cover.

Looks can be deceiving.

I'm just rambling at this point... :lips:
