You all know how new homes have soooo much closet space. I bought a 110 year old home and renovated it. There were "0" closets in this house because they had used amwiors (sp) and space heaters - in 3,000 square feet. I had 3 closets built in but didn't have the money to put the shelving in them. This week-end BTS and I put in the shelving. DO you want to know how much crap we got off the floors???????? A LOT. Does anyone out there need as much closet or storage space as we do? Can you say pack-rat?

i sold my 2500 sq. foot house and gave all my furniture to my siblings, our mom's antiques. i downsized bigtime. ran off to the keys and had to learn what no room was!! had to put my remaining stuff in storage. now i have all the things i cannot live without packed up in bins and am worrying about moving it all to England. but it's really not that much anymore, my china, my village, my photos and books. after a while you learn to let go of 'stuff'.

I am not necessarily a neat freak, I'm more of an extremely organized packer. Each item I have has a place and a bag or case that it fits into, no loose tools in a drawer.

For instance, my saw blades have cases. My BBQer has a cover over it. My garage has cabinets, cubby holes and any open shelving has cased items on them. Nothing is on the floor unless it has wheels. I can roll everything out of my garage and scrub the floors.

This of course drives my wife nuts... cause she cant just go set something out in my garage. She tries! ahahahaha.

Yeah I know I'm nuts.

You aren't nuts - we just haven't been able to combine households in less than 9 months - D'OH. It is my house on paper but our house in life. I wrote the will leaving the house to him and now maybe I think I should just do a 50/50 quitclaim deed. This man is the most incredible person I've ever encountered in my life................and just think about it - 2 years ago I had a better chance of being run over by a semi than I did of ever getting married again.

Actually, NV, there were 0 closets in your house because the taxes used to be figured on the number of rooms in a house and closets were considered rooms, so only the very wealthy could afford them. No closets = lower taxes.

Totally off topic, sorry. :o

Interesting fact BR. That explains a lot.

Far? Will you marry me?

I'm married to a pack rat. There is not a basement big enough to hold all his stuff. He saves screws because he may need them some day. When he does, we can't find them so he buys more. Oh there is so much need for every one in piece of wire he saves. If he can get a great deal on something, he'll buy it in case he needs it some day. Anyone need a coffee maker? I'm sure we have at least 4 extra ones. Need a screwdriver? It'll be in the last place he used it if you can remember where that is. It drives me insane!:wah:

Our house only has two closets and half a basement. It's not nearly enough but with the kids being 18 and 16, I figure some day I'll be whining about too much space.

If I were given more closet's and closet space I would quite simply have more junk overflowing out of them too. ahahahahahaha I am a horrible pack rat, though when I moved from house A to house be sans husband I quite litterally called a junk haul away company and said empty my basement I don't even wanna look. Fortunately one smart girlfriend of mine forced me down there to at least go through is a bit, am I glad she did, I would have lost my daughters baby books. Other than that there were boxes I never opened over 10 years I had simply had hauled out. I just could not face them. But 3 years later and less another family member, storage is overflowing with treasures nicely I am happy to report.
