Had a very nice Thanksgiving, thank you. Went to our sons and daughter in laws new home in south St. Charles Mo. Got lost only twice which is wonderful for us. Thank God for cellulars. We could see the back of their house but for the life of us couldn't figure out how to get there thru the hase of hundreds of new homes that all look the same. All of our kids were there and wonderful food, the boys weren't too excited about the fooball games. :driving:

It was alright. Of course, my sister's family was arguing. Her son, who is 7, blurted out a VERY bad word. His dad went to scold him, & my sister yelled at Dad!! That's how it always is, though. I feel for my parents. They're staying with my parents.

I had a great Thanksgiving. Went to my moms w/ my husband & 3 kids....we had 30 people! My sister/her husbands family, cousins, family friends and a few lost souls.....There was a 17 yr old foreign exchange student from the Netherlands...she's only been here 3 months. She intrigued me. Did you know she didn't know how to work a can of whipped cream????? And she had her first Oreo cookie on wednesday! God bless her--she was adorable...only hope our crowd didn't overwhelm her.

Ps...first time to have turkey dressing also!!!!

The day was spectacular....first real big snow, food to eat ones self into a stupor, was able to kick back and relax, watch a few movies. Great day!

But the best part was receiving my sister's Thanksgiving card today with her grandson's photo's in it! What a handsome young boy he is!

BTS, some neighbors and I ate ourselves into a stupor. We had a great time. BTS deep fried the turkey and it was soooooooo good. My Mom had come on Wed. but left at 10:30 am on turkey day because there was an arguement the night before. She tried to lay guilt - I felt bad that she was so upset but we didn't let it ruin our day.

Yep - my brother convientely (sp) forgot to invite us for T-Day even when my 3 other brothers were invited. She made out like it was just his lapse but I know the scoop and it made me a little sad.

It was lovely, despite the little roadblocks, but it is the roadblocks that pinpoint the particular year, not all the stuff that goes smoothly.......

First off, I didn't purchase 'stuffing cubes', I got the stuffing that is like bread crumbs. My husband discovered this the night before and had to vocalize how after 20 some years of making this stuffing I could possibily make such a mistake. Can you tell he really, really likes his stuffing!? Oh well, I figured I'd face that problem in the morning - there are stores that stay open on holidays.

During the middle of the night our daughters boyfriend called and woke me from a dead sleep. Befuddled as I was, I told him "No, she was not home", but she had heard the phone ring, called him back and out of the house and down the hill she drives....... Seems he and his roommate had been out drinking and decided halfway home that they should not be driving and called her to fetch them home. Luckily they had pulled into a gas station to call her and wait, which the cop that checked on them though was a good idea too. He waited around until she arrived to make sure they had a ride and agreed with her boyfriend that she was indeed good looking and a real sport to come out and fetch him and his friend. The cop says to my daughter "This fellow says he's going to marry you". "Yeah, that's what he tells me" she answers. The cops then asks her why she has a Florida drivers license and she reponds she only comes up here to chauffer these guys around........... The cop was cool, all got home safely with no harm to anyone.

Awaken as I was, I found it difficult to get back to sleep, which meant I did not arise all that early the next morning. When I did get up and while I had my morning coffee, my husband went out to buy the "correct" stuffing cubes so that I could make the "right kind of stuffing" for our feast.

With the proper ingredients in hand, I then began making the sausage stuffing for the bird, but when I went to stuff it, I found out it was still frozen -- like a brick!

Out again my husband goes -- this time to buy a fresh bird, he thinks. My daughter and I are trying to tell him he's not going to be successful, but he is determined to try. When he calls back saying he's had no success, my daughter laughingly suggests he might try finding 2 very large chickens to cook. He then suggests to her what he could do with the two birds. It's a very good thing that we all still have our sense of humor intact.

Upon his return he begins a wrestling match with the frozen fowl in the sink. He is successful and is able to stuff and butter the bird and finally, at 12:15, the bird goes in the oven.

Of course, this year as well as every previous year, my husband and I have our debate over whether to use foil when the bird goes in the oven or when the bird is browned so it will not brown further............... Daughter is cracking up. "Does it matter?!" she interjects. "YES", we retort.

Daughter and I decide to blame the problems of the day on the boyfriend. If he hadn't woke me up in the middle of the night, I would have gotten up early and could have pulled the bird out of the fridge earlier than I did. Yes, it's definitely all his fault. . . . . his shoulders are broad, he can bear the brunt of this...

All goes well with the cooking. I prepare the accompanying dishes and at 6 pm we are ready to take this bird out of the oven. This too is hubby's job. But, alas, the bird was large and just fit the tinfoil pan so the juices came rather far up the sides. We all gathered round the stove to watch the birds removal from the oven. I held our grandson out of harms way and lo and behold, the buttery liquid spashes into the oven and ignites! Most fireplaces do not boast such a nice flame................

The meal was delicious and enjoyed by all. We laughed a lot and the day will live in memory and the boyfriend gets no soup. "No soup for you!" I'm pulling the Soup Nazi role with him as punishment for the nights disruption.

With the Thanksgivings Day meal behind us, we are dreaming of what may happen come Christmas Day............. Oh, I do so love the holidays............

Sojourner--So glad your turkey day did finally turn out well. Sounds like you and hubby get along in kitchen just like me and my hubby. Why do they think they know everything about cooking? My husband can boil water. click on micro-wave to heat something up, also pops a great pan pf popcorn but he is always full of instructions on how I should cook something. Oh-well I will survive as the song goes. :) :)
