What to do with a bored biker?

So, Bullet has been home from work for over 2 weeks because of a pinched nerve in his back. The pain is tolerable and he's got good motion, but with all the dope they have him on, they won't allow him to work. He gets extremely bored when I'm working and is going out to the bar every night because he can't sit here at home and stare at the computer anymore. He's going nuts, I'm going nuts, and I need suggestions for something, ANYthing for him to do while I'm working that will keep him out of the bar but entertained. Anyone who comes up with something that actually works will have my eternal admiration and undying gratitude.

I should have known you would come up with that one, LC. You are truly bad.

He can't sit still long enough to read, but some movies might be ok. That too would be short-lived. Seems like really smart people get bored lots easier, don't you think? I really feel bad for him, because he's not really enjoying the bar, either, but he just hates being alone in the house.

Oh, LC, I got more work done on my tat. Forgot to tell you about that. We'll be getting a digital camera here pretty soon, (damn, but I'm glad to be working again) and I'll post a pic.

I had just the flint arrowhead with a leather thong wrapped around the head, and added a feather hanging down one side and my son's name through the top of the arrowhead.

People keep "offering" their unsolicited advice to me that I should never have gotten a name tattooed onto my bod, because "what if the relationship doesn't last?" What a bunch of nosey, uppity twits. I don't even bother correcting them about whose name it is anymore. :-5

I'll post a pic as soon as I can, LC. I sure miss you!!!!!

I mean, I am damn glad to be working again, the stress level in my house is almost non-existant now and Christmas is going to be great for all the kids, but geeze....I feel like I'm neglecting my pals, and especially you, when you may need me!!

I'm sure Carla and Abbey and all the others are keeping an eye on you, right?

This is a tough one. If you are not a putzing-type person it is hard to while away the hours without a purpose and a goal.

Do you have photos that could be sorted? You could ask him to try and put them in some kind of order.

You could ask him to go to the library (gets him up and moving) and check out what videos they have. They cost nothing except when you return them late and you can get as many as you like. Usually the libraries have the latest videos and you can get them if you can get there during the day. Try and get him interested in a TV series that is now on video. My daughter and I spent a week working around our viewing of the first season of "Lost".

Do you have all your addresses updated to send out your wedding invitations? This might put him in contact with some people that he might not otherwise think to call. Visits are wonderful for filling a day.

Decide to send Christmas cards this year and ask him to write out the cards -- suggest he write a note in them -- perhaps about your upcoming marriage........

Enlist friends and relative to give him a call during the day and possibly an invite out to lunch or dinner........

How about a 1000 piece picture puzzel that you could both randomly work on, but which might draw him in while you are away.

Or crossword puzzels, suduku, or even solitaire.

Or ask him what he thinks about writing his own wedding vows............... even if he poo-poos the idea, it might get his mind working on what he would say if he did say something of his own creation......

Kick-starting someone is difficult, but once they get into something new and different, things usually flow from there.

If all interesting and fun things fail, there is always cooking, laundry and dusting. He might all of a sudden find he has "other things to do"..................

Good luck! Happy you are working again, but miss reading your posts.

Get him an X Box. Games are expensive but you can buy them used anywhere now even in the mall. You can get anything from bikers who woo young ladies into doing things theyve never heard of to golf or fighter jet games whatever. Its fun.

They won't let him work because of the meds yet he will drink on them? YIKES!

I'd be calling the doctor and telling them to get him on meds that he CAN work on.

BR, he needs to be kept busy with something he likes. He needs to build a web page about bikers, bikes, all the things he likes. If he spends his time on something fun, he will be happy at home while he gets better. And he will be at home for you.

How about givng him some cash and letting him start the Christmas shopping? With the free time he has right now, he could take his time picking out those special gifts....

or find what he'd like you to get him! :wah:

Holy crap, you guys are good! There are some excellent suggestions here!

Sojo, you came up with some great ideas, and we do have tons of pictures sitting here in their envelopes that need to be sorted.

Arnold, I could never get mad at you I don't think, and even though Bullet is a hard-core biker, he's also very anal and organized and loves projects like this. Why neither of us thought of it before is beyond me.

Peg, I agree with you. I keep yelling at him for drinking on the stuff, but he's always been "invincible" so who am I to tell him he shouldn't?? Men....can't shoot 'em and they just don't fit in a microwave. :-5

Nomad, we have a PS2, but he isn't really into the whole gaming thing. He'll play once in a while for a few minutes at a time, but gets bored with it quickly.

Chonsi, he has a forum for the Blue Angels but it's new and doesn't see a whole lot of traffic yet and he's done all he can with it for now. (If anyone would like to check it out, PM me, I'll be happy to send a link, but I won't post it in public.) You have given me an idea in that general direction, though, thanks!! :yh_bigsmi

Far, if he wasn't all bleary-eyed from the dope he's on, a good model would be just the ticket. As it is, a new weapon is on my list of things I'll be buying him for Christmas. In fact, between you and LC, I'm hoping to get a list of some personal favorites in that department so I can get an idea of what to buy him. He's got so many guns, I want something he's not familiar with. Ideas?

CD, I think I will let him do some shopping, if I can get him near a mall!! Thanks, good idea!

Flop, as always, I love your suggestions, keep 'em coming!!

Today, he came to pick me up from work at 2:30 a.m. to drive me home, (we live about 150 yards from my bar) which I thought was sweet. He had cleaned the house top to bottom; dusted, vacuumed, cleaned glass, made the beds, did dishes, mopped the kitchen, even cleaned up after my cat who he hates. AM I lucky or what??!! :-4

Thanks again for all your input gang, keep the ideas coming!

Yeah, we want him functional and upright, so that's a no-go. Funny though!

BR, I didn't see anything about him doing some "customizing" work his & your "bikes!!! That would be something he might like, as well as you both end up getting Boss looking bikes! :)

Also just something a little sneaky for "medical" reasons. If he's drinking at "your" bar, or a friends bar, maybe you could have a special bottle of his favoriate booze, or beer "watered" down so it won't be so bad mixing with his meds. :wah: :-2 (just a sneaky thought, but well meant)

Have him start building a custom ride. If the states are the way I remember them, he can find bits and pieces all over the place just by dumpster checking!

My husband has made incredible scrap books from our photo's.

Brilliant minds ARE a hard thing to keep occupied!

Hope he gets well soon!

Have him make out all the christmas cards. Hell, or even 'customize' them!

or HEY!!!! Have him start airbrushing his 'ideal' ride on the garage wall or something! Many hours it takes up trying to come up with the 'perfect' gas tank paint job! You never know!
