Christmas appeal that WON'T cost money!

Although it is three weeks before yet another Christmas is upon us, may I make an appeal to adolescents and adults alike who will be enjoying the festivities of Christmas. Unlike most appeals, this one won't cost you a penny!

Christmas is a stressful time of the year, especially when additional guests are expected. My appeal is simply this: once Christmas lunch is over, please, please, please, instead of sliding up to your rooms to enjoy your pressies, or relax in front of the television, show just a little of your appreciation by insisting on clearing the dishes and doing the washing up yourself, making your Mum/wife a cup of tea in the process. Forty-odd minutes is not a lot to ask, but you will not believe just how much that forty minutes + will be appreciated. That's all I'm asking of people to do. Thank you, all of you.

Don't put a halo on me yet, as an adolescent I was as spoilt and as idle as the rest of them. It wasn't until many years later that I realised just how much I'd taken my mother for granted. I still take things for granted, but there's one day of the year when I insist my family do nothing. On that day they are barred from the kitchen. Everything from the first cup of tea, the turkey, pudding and washing up is down to me, so that my family can totally relax for just one day of the year. Call me a sentimental old fool, but is is my own particular way of saying "thank you for everything you've done this past year."
