Are you eating enough? It can be difficult to even want food when you feel stressed or unwell. But it's worth going for foods that give you some comfort..try some porridge (oatmeal) or bananas? And you mentioned home made soups some while ago. Can you give those a go?

LC i loose weight when my husband is gone. When i am sad or sick i tend not to eat. It just feels gross to be full. The best thing i can recommend is when you do eat and drink to eat/drink high calorie foods/beverages. If you drink diet soda switch to regular. Use real sugar in your coffee things like that. You dont have to eat more. Just eat richer foods. Hope it helps. I hate being super skinny too.

SOJOURNER, Thank you for pointing this out to LC... I love her dearly:-4 But she's not on board with being a DIABETIC... she think she isn't one.. Maybe you can get it though her stubborn head what diabetic shock is all about..!! :-5 Maybe convince her to inject her insuline like she is suppose to...:-4 and once your diagnoised as DIABETIC your DIABETIC for the rest of your life..it doesn't go away ever..!!

LC, What else did they do yestarday at your EKG ???? did they give you Insulin I'm sure they would have checked as routine.

If your injecting like your suppose to your levels will be in the normal range and its up to you to keep them there with daily injections..
Not eating is the worst thing a diabetic can do, you must eat all day long and the right things..

LC, weight loss occurs sometimes during times of stress-besides your current medical issues. This is what my doctor told me to do for my husband, who is a diabetic, to put back 10-20 more pounds. (he has gained 10 lbs so far)
1. eat more protein-meats! Roast up them steaks and pork chops-no sugar in them!
2. drink some of the Glucernas-they are for diabetics, have 220 calories or so, can add the needed calories-your metabolism has changed, aso the amount of calories your body needs now.
3. get enough sleep-minimum of 8 hours a day-I know this is the tough one for you to hear, but you have to rest. The body needs to reenergize itself, and if you are totting around too long, then you're burning the calories

Okay LC, you can lurk and ignore me but I will NOT be still.
Most people when told they are diabetic do NOT believe it. They go into denial. Why do they not believe it? Because it doesn't have a symptom that they can pinpoint and say this hurts or I don't feel well because of thus and such.......... It's hard to believe it and you don't want it to be DIABETIES. It's a pain and a half to do the testing and the meal planning and to have to deny yourself what you really want to have to eat and drink.
When you take meds or insulin your sugar level will be lower. BUT, unlike other diseases (and this is a disease) taking meds for it does NOT make it go away. It does NOT cure you. It just controls it. This point, I think, is the very hardest for diabetics to understand, but once you accept this fact, then you are ready to take control of your disease.
The goal is to keep that sugar level somewhat the same throughout the day by eating 6 small meals a day plus exercising, so that your sugar level does NOT spike up and down throughtout the day. LEVEL IS GOOD. SPIKING IS BAD.
Diabeties is a nasty disease because it can affect many internal organs (like your heart, LC). It can cause numbness in hands, legs and feet and blindness.
If you are a diabetic who is taking meds and/or insulin and you are NOT following a sensible diabetic eating plan, YOU HAVE NOT ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A DIABETIC.
Pills and insulin will only keep your numbers low for a while. If you do not choose to participate in maintaining a healthy eating and exercising plan, you can wind up a very sick individual in a wheelchair, totally dependent on others for your care.
I don't think LC would want that. Does she?

Oh Sojo, you need to warn her.
LC, I will give you the plain case example, and say no more. (it upsets me to say it)
You know what to do.
My husband would not be the way he is today, if he had watched his blood sugar levels, and had gone to the doctor when he needed to. No amount of pleading on my part did a thing, and the blood sugar dropped, and when he fell he hit his head. And my husband will never be the same again. I would hate to see something like this happen to you.

Val, you're right, this is not a joking matter, even though LC would like to make it sound that way. She enjoys the persona of hard-ass invincible cop, and the diabetes does not jive with that image. Believe me, she's lurking here, reading what's being written. She uses the invisible mode, but she keeps up on ALL the goings-on in FG. She has quit writing to me, because she doesn't want to burden me with her stuff right now, considering what I'm going through, but all the same, I want her healthy and well and listening to the doctors.
My dad was just diagnosed as diabetic about 2 weeks ago, and he's jumped right on the wagon. Eating right, testing his levels, and if THAT man can do what he's told and take care of himself, A-N-Y-B-O-D-Y is capable.
LC, your friends are concerned. They love you and want you well. Bothwell wants you well. Do what the f*ck your doctors are telling you. They don't have all them fancy degrees on their walls because they found them in a box of Cracker Jacks, they actually know what they are talking about.

oh this is an easy fix LC.
hop on a plane and come to Cedar Rapids, Ia
go to my Hardee's Restaurant on Blairsferry Road
you need to order a "Monster Thickburger"
2/3 pound(post cook weight) Angus Beef
8 strips of bacon.
2 ounces of REAL mayo
4 slices of american cheese
total= 1,200 calories
get one large curly fry= 400 calories
one large, hand-dipped, strawberry shake= 500 calories
do this 3 times a week and you'll either gain weight or be in a coma from all the heart attacks.

LC, my mother is a diabetic that doesn't take care of herself. Sure she pricks her finger often and takes the insulin shots, she's not losing weight either. I feel sorry for her now, all she does is sit in a recliner and watches Martha Stewart and HGTV all day. She is no longer allowed to drive, her eye sight has gotten worse and her blood sugar level stays high. She knows what she is doing but doesn't seem to really care. I'm rather greedy when it comes to momma, I want her alive for me and my family. Sometimes I feel she doesn't care about all of us by the way she treats her diabetes. You were the first one to welcome me to FG and I have grown to reading what you have to say, PLEASE, go to your Dr. and get things taken care of, don't let this get out of hand. We'd go mad without you here at FG! :-6

Are you on a pill or shot? How long after taking it was your sugar level 77? That alone would make my husband feel horrible. Is 77 somewhere within the normal range for you? What's the highest yours has been? How did you feel when it was at its highest? Each person is different and different levels give them different reactions. Any sweating and/or shaking?

I just went on meds a bit ago and recently they added another one. Brought my levels to 72 -77 before meals. Scared me! It made me feel funny. I went out and bought all this stuff to eat to bring it back up fast, if needed. In the mean time, I quit the second pill. Didn't seem like a good thing to be taking.
Turns out, when I saw my doctor and discussed it with a professional - who knows, that this is a good number, nothing bad will happen to me unless it is around 30 and the only reason I'm feeling 'funny' is cause my body is use to running on a much higher level - 110 - 120.
Talk openly with your doctor.
Discuss your eating with a dietition.

When Mr. AFS found out he had diabetes he lost a lot of weight at first as well. Just like you, he had lost too much weight and we were all worried. But you know what? It's easier to gain weight than it is to lose it, and when you're diabetic, being on the thin side will actually help your control your blood sugar. Mr. AFS likes to call it the "diabetic weight loss plan." At first you lose tons of weight really fast. Your blood sugar isn't stable and it plays havoc with your metabolism. But you WILL start to put it back on, if you're careful about adding calories and about getting the right balance of carbs to insulin. He was able to safely put 20 pounds back on slowly, using a high protein diet, and by careful recordkeeping and now he's never been better. Before he was TOO heavy for his frame, and that was bad on his sugar. But now he's a great weight for his height and his sugar is steady.
Also, as far as getting hypoglycemic goes, if you're on too much insulin or taking in too few carbs it's going to go low. Bryan tries to consume about 70g of carbs during his three daily meals, and has two 30 carb snacks in between. He also learned that the insulin he was taking at meals was too high---he went down to 6 units a meal and rarely gets low. He kept a notebook for awhile with a chart--carbs in, insulin in, blood sugar--so he could keep track of the pattern. Eventually you have to tweak your own diet to your individual body, and the best way is to take good records! Doctors can prescibe you this and that, but they can't be with you 24 hours a day.
I think once you get the sugar under control your weight will get back up. In fact, you'll probably be even more gorgeous than you've ever been before, and you'll be healthier and happier. Listen to your body!
