Hi Everyone,
I just stumbled across your board this morning while looking for another online community. I usually hang out at Care2.com but sometimes it's a little slow over there which is when I plan to be here
A little about me: I'm 39, I live in Arizona and I work in animal rescue. I have done that since 1999.
I like cooking, reading (non fiction) music, being out in Nature and making people laugh. I have a lot of eclectic interests: I study the Victorian era, I collect seashells, birds, pigs, crystal balls and jewelry, preferably vintage. I'm very opinionated and often times my opinions are unpopular with people but I have to be who I am. I can be pretty straightforward at times. Nevertheless, I'm a kind person and worth getting to know. Have a nice day! :-6

Welcome RedGlitter
I love to debate about most anything too.
I am sure if you hang around here much we will disagree on most everything.
I went to Care2.com and was not impressed. Seemed to stand for everything I am against....
But then that was my first impression......... could be wrong?

Umm what didn't I like???????????
First thing I did not like, was that I believe in Animal Welfare and NOT animal rights.
Do you think animals have rights?

I think we have decimated quite a few animals in our human existance. It is our duty to become animal welfare activitists. We need to save what we can and not feel guilty about the rest. I know that is a harsh stance but considering we humans didn't give a damn before 50 years ago I think it is civil.

Ahhhh, Red.....please, do NOT be concerned with having, and standing up for your views and beliefs. The fact that there are so many diverse views are what keeps this place interesting. Mostly we are all very respectful of each others individuality, with very few exceptions. Unfortunately, just as a heads up, the dude you are embarking on this discussion with is not always a gentleman when it comes to debates. Don't let him scare you. Or even make you nervous. I'm very interested in your views on this topic.

Hi Red Glitter, Welcome to FG.
I belive in animal rights, I am always saving dogs from people that can't look after them, and them when I have trained them I pass them on to some one who can. I also belive in insect rights too, I got right up my son two days ago for killing ants with his cigarette.
I do think we should be allowed to eat certain animals so long as the're not pets and we're hungry. Like I wouldn't eat the neighbour cat, but I'd eat the farmers stock.
I hate to see any live being mistreated or suffering, so we should get along just fine.

Thanks Baby Rider for the heads up.
Orange Sox, it's great that you take it upon yourself to re-home animals. As a fellow rescue worker, I say a BIG THANKS to you!

How many have you saved?

I'm glad to hear that Arnold. I agree, you can tell how civilized people are by the way they treat animals. (and old people for that matter) But don't forget it's not just woman who are vain and wear fur...men look just as ugly in fur as women do.

ahhhhhhhh please do tell Red how much you think animals have rights too BR.
Don't stand up and say you agree with me as is evidenced in your prior posts on the subject ...no skirt the issue and slam me.........
Now is that REAL lady like?

Quite a few usually from people that don't know how to look after a dog, I have put up with some real monsters too. Hamish is one that I kept he was a four year old black labradour when I got him and had been returned to the animal shelter three time because of his behaviour. He is my best dog now. I have had to put a lot of really hard work into teaching some of the dogs manners though and had a neurotic Cockerspanial once that took a lot of work, I gave him to a family after I had had him for 6 months and he was a great dog by then.
I have another black lab at the moment that needs to be with other dogs as his owner is away a lot, and he's only six months. I own two Black Labs myself so I have three at the moment. The're all well behaved though.

Orange Sox, you're doing wonderful things for animals.

I love hearing success stories.
Sojourner, I definitely believe animals have souls. Undoubtedly.

A) Red and I can discuss animal rights and what each of us believes about that topic between us, without any assistance from you.
B) I will stand up and say whatever I like, however I like about whatever I like. Even though we happen to agree on this subject, I still think you're an ass. To me, that is a fact, not a "slam." It's just how things are.
C) I have never claimed to be "lady like" whatever you happen to think that is. The fact that you may not approve of my behavior or my ettiquette does not bother me even an iota.
Sorry RG, for the blatant hijack. Back to the thread:

I like animals. Except the ones that maul you then leave you in the woods for all the other animals to gnaw the flesh off your bones. Thats not good.
